one of the more overlooked and just
forgotten things over the last couple of
years has been Chris Bryant being on the
Colorado Rockies if you told someone
Chris Bryant was going to be a rocky a
few years ago when he was a cub it would
have seemed like a big deal I mean we're
talking Chris Bryant the Cubs Prodigy
the man who helped lead the franchise to
their first World Series Championship
since the dinosaurs roamed Earth winning
the MVP award in the process being a top
third baseman in the game who could also
play Outfield I mean the concept of him
signing a big contract with another
franchise seemed wild but when it didn't
end up happening it really wasn't a big
deal at least it wasn't made out to be
and this is for a couple of reasons now
it's not like it got no attention Chris
Bryant was still a notable signing for
the Rockies a team that's not known to
get bigger Nam guys like that but coming
off of a bad 2020 season and a quietly
good 2021 season which saw Bryant get
traded to the Giants so he'd already no
longer been a cub by this point Bryant's
signing just didn't hit the same really
as we probably would have originally
thought it would looking back even
though he didn't necessarily kill it
with the Giants after getting traded
there he still was pretty good and like
I said had a quietly Good Year all
around so if anything you could argue
Brian's 7year $182 million contract with
the Rockies was a steal now you're not
saying that now but at the time 182 over
7 years a $26 million a year salary I
mean that's not bad not as crazy as some
of these other contracts still a lot of
money obviously money that feels like a
lot more now but not crazy Brian signing
with the Rockies who have largely in
historically been a more irrelevant team
is part of why this wasn't made out to
be the craziest thing ever but if Bryant
went out and started tracking a bunch of
homers and put up a lot of production on
a Rockies team that was good people
would look at this contract a little bit
more us fans would care about the
contract more unfortunately Chris Bryant
has not been cracking many homers and
putting up any production over his first
two seasons in Colorado and the Rockies
have not only just been not a good team
but a really bad team Bryan's also been
hurt the majority of the time only
playing 42 games in his first season as
a Rocky and 80 in 2023 I mean even if he
played most games and put up really good
numbers people would still not think
much of Brian because he's been on
terrible Rockies teams so now out of the
fact that he's barely played and hasn't
done much people probably forgot Bryant
still existed and with spring training
now here which of course means
baseball's back meaning things will be
getting more exciting so if you haven't
already make sure to subscribe and hit
the Bell to stay notified of everything
that goes on thank you but as things
currently stand in spring training the
Rockies at least don't seem like they're
on the rise at all we say that and they
end up going on to beat the Dodgers and
the nlds this year but from what at
least it looks like even if Bryant stays
healthy and does well the team doesn't
look like it will do well and Bryant
himself is now acknowledging and
admitting he probably should be on
another team if he thought things
through a bit more in a recent interview
with the athletic Chris Bryant said a
lot of things most notably the regret he
just can't deny literally saying looking
back on it I honestly wish things went a
little differently more specifically
Bryant went more into what led him to
signing with the Rockies for some
context the deal happened right after
the lockout that took place before the
2022 season with Bryant saying that
discussions with the Rockies started
before the lockout started late in in
December of 2021 3 months go by where no
contact was allowed by anybody baseball
was suddenly back and Bryant had no team
and felt pressur to make a decision
quote it's like oh shoot I need to get
there there were other teams interested
but I didn't want to wait around it was
a completely different situation for a
lot of free agents at the time I guess I
didn't do as much research into the
prospects as I could end quote with
Brian going on to add that playing for
the Rockies is easier in a sense where
there isn't as much pressure compared to
a team like the Dodgers where they
invest a lot more into the players and
are expected to be great whereas the
Rockies are a team nobody talks about
that's Bryant's own words it kind of is
sad at the end of the day I mean you
always have to remember we're also
talking about millionaires here so you
can only feel so bad for them like how
bad is their life really but at the same
time and look I don't know what other
teams were talking to him and the
details of what another contract
elsewhere could have looked like but it
seems that Bryant feels he could have
put himself in a better more ideal
situation than the one he's in now being
on a rocky team that people don't have
any expectations for they're just there
they soccer be decent or at least that's
the expectation but either way there
isn't expected to be too much excitement
so instead of being on a contender like
he'd of course prefer he's in this
situation and I find the prospect's
comment interesting he's of course
throwing shade at the organization not
in a disrespectful way at least I don't
know if it should be taken that way but
he's kind of just saying this team isn't
great which is true and the farm system
doesn't seem to be getting much better
which is also true if anything it's just
dropping in the rankings every year
there's not enough to be excited about
with this franchise one that Bryant will
have to continue calling home for five
more years at least in theory because
from what he feels a rush decision he
made to pick them let me know what you
think thank you for watching and I'll
see you soon
