PREPARING FOR SNOW IN NORTH CAROLINA!
Snow doesn't come often to NC, so when it does things go crazy and we have to be prepared. Most roads won't get plowed so we have to make sure we have everything we need if we can't get to a store after the snow comes. And to top it off they're already planning to close the schools!
It's supposed to snow.
It's going to start as flurries, turn into sleet,
get really cold at night, and freeze into sheets of ice,
so school will be canceled for like three weeks.
Tomorrow we're gonna snow!
Put your PJs on backwards!
I've never heard that.
This is the future, people.
We're living in the future right now.
This is nuts.
But I'm really, really excited about this,
and I have to share this with you guys because...
What's up, guys?
We just got our kids from preschool,
and we are expecting some snow this weekend.
Go figure.
I've been asking for snow,
and now it's supposed to happen Thursday night,
which means they'll probably cancel school Friday.
First week in the new house.
Can't even get a full week
without having to have the kids home.
We're still working on a lot of stuff.
So we are running out to the store today,
Target, and then to the grocery store to get some things,
because you know we ain't gonna be able
to drive this weekend.
Oh!
Apparently, Everly said one of her teachers were rude
because they went and let her have a Lysol wipe,
and they all laughed about it.
Thank goodness, because that's totally our kid.
We're still working on that.
Working on talking respectfully
to our teachers and our parents.
I love you.
I'm gonna go up there.
It's supposed to snow.
If this is necessary, we need this before it snows.
Absolutely, right?
Yeah, for sure.
All right, you guys, it's supposed to snow
for the first time all winter.
Usually in North Carolina,
what that means is it's going to start as flurries,
turn into sleet, and then turn into rain,
get really cold at night, and freeze into sheets of ice,
so school will be canceled for like three weeks.
Not three weeks.
It's true.
But the whole town will shut down
for at least a day, maybe two,
depending on how cold it stays.
If it keeps freezing overnight,
it will shut down for a few days.
Obviously, before that happens, I need-
A new wardrobe.
Yeah.
Did I buy a new shirt already?
Because if not, then I need it.
I feel like you earned that.
I said I feel like I bought it,
but I don't think I did.
I'm going to, though.
I think you have it.
Pretty sure you do.
Pretty sure you wore that before.
Get underwear, underwear.
Get out of here, guys.
Let's get out of here.
What's this?
That's a mannequin.
Mannequin suit.
Come on in.
Come on.
So this ring doorbell thing came with our house.
I set up yesterday.
It's pretty sick.
Look at this.
I got a notification.
I've been ignoring most of them
because it's usually just cars driving by.
But now, there's a UPS guy.
And I'm waiting to see him walk up to our house
and drop off the package.
And I can actually talk to him.
That's crazy.
This is the future, people.
We're living in the future right now.
This is nuts.
What are you doing?
I'm mean.
You're mean?
Mm-hmm.
Why are you mean?
You mean you're mad?
Mm-hmm.
Why are you mad?
Because I'm being rude.
I want Gabby Gabby.
Gabby Gabby?
What happened to your shoe?
No, no, no, no.
Unzip it and then put it on.
Are you looking for snow boots, babe?
And we didn't because you said it never snows.
And now, look at us.
The good thing about it being later in the wintertime
that snow's coming is that all the snow boots are on sale.
So, we're finding something for like nine bucks.
We can get our kids and then we can pass them down
in years ahead.
Ooh, and little toboggans.
That's what we call them down here in the south.
Toboggans are on sale as well.
And these little gloves.
Okay, tell me though, where you're from,
what do you call this?
What would you call this?
I know everybody calls it something different.
So, tell us in the comments below.
And tell us where you're from, too.
I wanna see the different areas.
They call that something different.
Okay, this is gonna go on our island for things.
But, what do you like more?
Color variation or all one color?
I think if we're gonna do color variation,
I would go with this one.
It's even more variated.
I feel like this might look better.
Yeah, let's do the non-color variation.
I like this.
Yeah, I like what you got.
It's good.
See, John helped me decide.
You doing good that night?
Is it comfy?
She's just showing it.
She's not even gonna move.
All right, we just got back from the store.
We ended up just grabbing some grocery items from Target.
Just a few things.
And we're gonna order the rest tonight.
We had to pick up the kids from school.
We got the just in time, right, Ty?
Are you cold?
Yeah.
Ooh, my hair's static.
We're going inside, silly goose.
You need a jacket.
Yeah, you're staying cold out here.
I hope so.
Look, I got some snow boots.
They're on sale.
I already told you.
I found some for me.
Men's clearance, hola.
Okay, you guys, we just got back from Target.
I honestly could not tell you what happened at Target.
It was kind of a blur.
I don't even, didn't even remember what I bought.
I got in the car, I'm like, what just happened?
Going to Target with kids is like, it's like a time warp.
Like, it's like a, what is it called, John?
You know, like the holes in space?
A wormhole.
I don't know, whatever.
But I'm really, really excited about this
and I have to share this with you guys
because, because I'm excited about it.
That's why, okay, come in here.
So we have implemented a no shoes in the house rule
with this house.
One, shoes are gross.
You walk in public bathrooms and outside and in grass
where animals poop, who knows?
Like, shoes are disgusting.
Okay, so we're kind of like,
let's start fresh with clean floors.
We got a baby that crawls around the floors.
We got kids that eat off the floor.
No shoes, right?
Two, Bermuda grass, especially like in the wintertime
when things are dead and you go out and come back in,
it all sticks to your shoes.
And when you wear the shoes like in the house
then it ends up everywhere.
We would sweep like 300 times a day.
That's an exaggeration.
But seriously, it felt like our floors were always filthy.
And I realized just from the week we've been here
without wearing shoes in the house
that our floors stay so much cleaner.
So, no shoes in the house is a rule.
If you guys know me at all,
then you know how attached I am to my slippers.
I wear them all the time.
I wear them out of the house
more than I wear regular shoes.
Don't worry, they have rubber soles.
They're meant to be worn outside.
But with the no shoes in the house rule,
my slippers are sad and lonely sitting by the garage door.
So today at Target, I found a black pair
of the same slippers that are my favorite slippers
of all time.
And so I am designating these bad boys
as my house shoes to wear in the house only,
never outside.
What size are those?
My slips.
Why?
Because they look like teeny tiny.
They're six.
Anyway, my feet are happy now
because they've been freezing.
And they are tiny, they've always been tiny.
They were freezing.
But now they're warm and happy
and there's no dirt getting on my floors.
It's amazing.
Best purchase of the day.
And by the way, don't forget to wear your PJs on backwards
because raise your hand if you hope it snows tonight.
You gotta crisscross your hands.
Do the snow dance and don't forget,
you put your PJs on backwards.
I've never heard that until today.
Apparently you put your PJs on backwards
and it helps it snow, is that right?
Oh, and we also put the magic snowman up
which helps almost every day when it's supposed to snow.
Nice.
Well, that should be good.
That should be a guaranteed snow then.
The good thing about living in the South
is that it never snows.
So when it does snow,
you can definitely find snow boots on clearance.
It's just nobody buys them.
Yeah, there's never any.
Especially in March.
It only, I feel like it, since I've lived here,
it's only ever snowed in like, snowed.
Snowed.
It's only ever snowed in like February or March.
Like late, late, late, you know?
In the winter season.
Yeah, it seems like it's been just like random.
It's like the snow boots are in stock at Target
in like November and December.
Nobody buys them, so they're on clearance
by the time it does snow.
So I got these for $10.48.
Nice.
Plus it was an extra 20% off Kids Shoes.
Oh, was it even on the sale stuff?
And then these were $9.88.
Nice, Ty, those look cool, dude.
Yeah, I got mine.
She has a pair too, but.
Oh yeah, this dude's just kidding.
Those are daddy's.
Hey, what are you doing?
Making something.
For me?
I'll make yours after, but right now I'm making mine.
After?
Why am I an afterthought?
I'm making it for mom.
What do y'all think?
Your boots.
What do you think?
Me?
Yeah.
I don't know, it needs other things on it.
I wouldn't put that on it.
What would you put on it?
I don't know.
Maybe it has like a clear boss face
and some glasses and stuff on it.
I need a few things on it.
What about a bowl of Jolly Ranchers?
That's what my grandma would've put on it.
How many teeth did you have?
Hey, don't talk about her teeth.
She has the most beautiful dentures I've ever seen.
Laney, Rainey, did you know you all have
a three hour early release tomorrow?
Yeah.
The kids get out of school three hours early tomorrow
for snow that's not supposed to happen until the evening.
Welcome to North Carolina, everybody.
They're already talking about canceling school Monday.
I mean, it's Friday.
Oh, I'm sure they'll cancel Friday, no doubt.
It's gonna be canceled no matter what.
That's gonna be canceled.
These kids are ready for bed, but they need to eat,
but they are both exhausted.
So we just got word that the kids' preschool now
is delayed, or is early release an hour
because their teachers have kids in school
that they have to go pick up.
So I told you, you just say the word snow
and this whole place will shut down.
I thought Danielle was being a little over-exaggerating
when she said half an inch,
and they shut down for like a week.
But I'm like, kind of starting to think
that maybe she wasn't.
I wasn't.
I'm from Pennsylvania, and there,
they will like literally, as it's snowing,
be plowing the roads.
And so like, it could snow three feet
and you're going to school because they've got it.
The funds that they allocate to that, whatever.
Here, they don't, because it doesn't happen often enough.
Yeah, I don't even know if they have snow plows.
No, they salted or treated the roads for like ice,
but they don't have that in the budget
because it's just not-
Frequent enough.
Right, and so everything shuts down.
But also I will say, because it does not happen often,
people here do not know how to drive in that weather.
They will literally drive, like it's a 75 and sunny,
and the road's wide open ahead.
And it's like, you know, there is ice everywhere.
So it is, it's like accident, accident, accident.
Car stuck, car stuck, car stuck.
And I'm like, y'all don't know how to drive
in the snow at all.
Well, I think it's because it's also
that people don't see the ice.
A lot of times it'll melt during the day,
then overnight it freezes.
So it still looks kind of like just like snow,
or it's black ice and you can't see it at all on the road.
And so yeah, that's kind of what happens around here.
So it'll be interesting to see how everything plays out
in the next couple of days.
You're gonna see what I ordered.
It's gonna be here.
Oh yeah.
On my birthday.
Oh yeah, Daniel's birthday's coming up February 22nd.
Say happy birthday, everybody.
Oh, for the girls' birthday.
My cousin's birthday is gonna be this month.
Addy was just telling me that her cousins
were moving across the street,
and I have no idea what she's talking about.
So, it'll be interesting to see if any of her cousins
actually do move in.
Maybe she's prophesying over here.
