Well, it has been quite a challenge to keep up with the winter weather this season, and
just when we thought the pattern was changing, the area is facing another potential first
storm.
New Jersey correspondent Trish Hartman live in Mays Landing with more on how communities
are now preparing.
Trish?
Yeah, Kristy, these snow piles are finally starting to disappear, so most people we spoke
with are not ready for more snow.
Nonetheless, we checked in with some communities here in Atlantic County that were running
low on salt after these previous storms, but now they say they're all stocked up and ready
to go.
Some folks in South Jersey are still recovering from the last round of winter weather.
Horrible.
I mean, the ice was the worst.
I don't mind snow so much, but it's the ice.
And with the chances for more snow?
I'm wrecked over it.
I don't even want to know about it.
Like it or not, forecasters are watching a system closely that could impact our area
on Sunday.
Emergency management officials are too.
We check it every four hours, twice a day we get alerts from the National Weather Service.
Right now it looks like a rain and snow mix, so I don't know, we'll have to see what happens.
Here in Hamilton Township, the salt shed is full again, with 900 tons delivered last week.
Their supply dwindled after the January snow, but now officials say they're ready.
Egg Harbor City is stocked too.
Most years we do need some, but this was a lot to get again.
They had to order more salt after the last storm.
They say between that and overtime for public works crews, it's been an expensive winter.
But they're prepared all the same to treat the roads.
We have been preparing since the last storm.
We did have a little salt shortage, but so did all the neighboring towns.
But we recently got about, I think, 100 tons of salt.
And typically a storm requires about 50 tons, so we think we're well prepared.
Now here in Atlantic County, they say they're still waiting to see what this storm could bring.
They say they are prepared to brine the roads if that's needed.
They'll make that determination in the coming days.
We're live in Maize Landing, Trish Hartman, Channel 6 Action News.
All right, Trish, thank you.
