Is your nano tank starting to look a little foggy?
Or maybe there's algae building up and you're wondering
do I really have to take the fish out every time I clean this thing?
The good news is, you don't. Today I'll show you exactly how to clean a small
or nano aquarium without removing your fish.
Fast, safe and stress-free. You won't need fancy gear, just a few
or sponge, a gravel vacuum, small size works great,
a clean bucket for water changes and optionally
a water test kit and an old toothbrush for tight corners.
Let's start with the glass. Use your algae scraper
or sponge to gently wipe the inside walls.
If you're dealing with hard water stains or stubborn algae,
the toothbrush trick works wonders. Just scrub
gently. Pro tip, do this part before stirring up the gravel so you
don't end up smearing gunk around. Next, clean the substrate. Insert your
gravel vacuum and start lightly stirring the gravel.
You'll see the trithis and leftover food get sucked right up.
Only clean about 25 to 30 percent of the gravel per session.
This helps preserve beneficial bacteria while keeping things tidy.
Don't aim for perfection, it's about balance,
not stirring. Now for the water change. Remove about 20 to 30 percent of the
tank water using your siphon. Make sure your
replacement water is dechlorinated and close to the tank's temperature.
Add it back in slowly, either by pouring along the side or using a drip method if
you're fancy. No need to scoop out fish, they'll
appreciate the calm. If your filter is clogged or the flow
rate has dropped, give it a quick clean. But here's the deal, never rinse it
under tap water. Instead, swish the sponge in the bucket
of old tank water you just removed. Why? Tap water can kill all the good
bacteria your tank depends on. If you want to go the extra mile, test
your water parameters. Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates tell you
how healthy your tank is. Test strips are quick and easy, no lab
coat required. That's it. Clean tank, happy fish,
and no net needed. If this helped you out, give it a like and subscribe for more
