Hola. Hola. Bienvenidos a Lightspeed Spanish. Bienvenidos. This is number 50 for
beginners. Now you've got a chance in this lesson to test your Spanish level
and this is the test to see whether you are A1 to A2. If you pass everything
then you can wait when we do the next one which is an intermediate and you'll
be able to test if you can go up and we'll see if we can get you all the way
to the very top. Okay but this is for A1 to A2. Now this is along the
same theme as the Dele. Okay which is a pretty good establishment that
teaches Spanish. Okay so you know that if you get these right then you can say
hey I'm A2. Yeah. Yes more or less. More or less. Obviously that there are
lots of flaws in measuring your Spanish. Yes. Okay it isn't it doesn't mean A2
across every topic because then you just get a topic you don't know about.
It's basically see how comfortable you are with these questions. Yeah. Or if you
need to touch up on some or if you're just flying through. Yeah. Yeah. So what
we're going to do is this. Cynthia is going to give us the options. You'll see
them on the screen. We'll give you a little bit of time for you to choose the
right answer and then I'll answer okay and then we'll and see if I get it right
because hey you know. I hope so. I hope you get it right. Worst things can happen.
Yeah. Let's see and so then we'll look at maybe why we would choose that one. Okay
so if you need a little bit more time pause the video while you're thinking
about the right answer. Okay so off we go. I thought this is introduction. Oh sí. Así que nos vemos en la segunda parte.
Okay Gordon. So I'm gonna ask you questions. Right. And I'll give you three
options. Yeah. A, B, C. Okay. And then you say A, B or C. Yeah. Remember you're going to
answer them as well. Yes you answer them or you write them down and write down
how many you had right or wrong. Yeah you see. I was gonna say something and I
forgot. Oh. I've made the test myself based on the typical topics that are
covered in A1 and A2. Okay. So this is not the DELE test. This is I've made
this test but it's based on the DELE type of test. Okay. With the topics that
you cover. Okay. Yeah. Super. Question number one. ¿Qué hora es? A. ¿Es las dos y cuarto? B. ¿Son las dos pasadas cuarto? C. ¿Son las dos y cuarto?
Okay. So I would say ¿Son las dos y cuarto? Correcto. ¿Son las dos y cuarto? Sí.
So why not A? Because ES LAS is not connecting because S is singular and
LAS is plural. So it has to be SON LAS. There's no two ways about it. Yes. Even
though in English you say it's. It's one. It's two. It's three. In Spanish ES would
only be for one. ES LA UNA. But for the rest would be SON because it's plural.
SON LAS DOS, SON LAS TRES, SON LAS CUATRO. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Number two. ¿A qué te dedicas? A. Soy
arquitecto. B. Estoy un arquitecto. C. Estoy arquitecto. We should put music. I'm gonna have a little...
Okay. So I would say... Can I say? Sorry. So I would say A. Soy arquitecto. Correcto.
Soy arquitecto. So, Gordon, why do we use SOY not ESTOY? Okay. Because SER, when you
when you talk, when you said you're talking about permanent traits, okay, and
that your job is a permanent trait. It's kind of something that you do and it's
what describes who you are, yeah? So that's why we use it. And very quickly why
don't we say UN? Because in English I'm an architect. When you talk about your job you
don't need to put UN or UNA when you talk about your job. Soy profesor. If you're
gonna then add anything to it, like an enthusiastic teacher, then yes. Soy un
Okay? So that's when you have to add that. But if you're just gonna say I am
this, soy bombero. Soy enfermera. Soy profesora. Soy doctora. Muy bien.
Tres. ¿Quién pone la mesa normalmente? Poner la mesa is to set the table. ¿Quién pone la
mesa normalmente? E. Yo pongo la. B. Yo lo pongo. C. Yo la pongo. Okay, so I would say yo la
pongo. Muy bien, correcto. Sí, yo la pongo. And the reason for that is you just need
to know, and if you don't know, look in our, look in our lessons, look for the RID
and it tells you the order that the pronouns have to go in. You can't put the pronoun after
the verb in this sentence. It's got to go before. And it's got to be LA because we're
talking about la mesa. La mesa. Okay. Muy bien. Four. ¿Qué van a pedir? So you're in a restaurant,
¿eh? ¿Qué van a pedir? A. Por primero, una ensalada. B. De primero, una ensalada. C. Para
primero, una ensalada. Prepositions. Okay, so I would say de primero, una ensalada. B.
When you, whenever you're in a restaurant, from what I can see, when you're asking for things
like de primero, de segundo, de postre. Correct. Okay, you use this de, and that's when you're
referring to your dishes and stuff like that, yeah? Muy bien. Number five, and here you need to
fill the blank. Ah, okay. Yeah. So, a Pablo, las camisetas ceñidas. Ceñidas is like tight. Tight,
too. Like body fitting. Ajustadas, ¿no? Ajustadas, ceñidas, yeah. So, a Pablo,
las camisetas ceñidas. So, a Pablo A. Le gustan las camisetas ceñidas. A Pablo
les gustan las camisetas ceñidas. O a Pablo le gusta las camisetas ceñidas.
So, I would say a Pablo le gustan. Correcto, la A. A Pablo le gustan.
And why, why would it be gustan? Well, because the le is referring to Pablo. Yeah. And the gustan
is referring to las camisas. Camisetas. Camisetas. Camisetas. So, that's how it has to go. Any of
the others would be wrong. And if you're not sure about the gustar, we've got tons of lessons on
why and how you do it. Yeah. Yeah. Número seis. Número seis.
the students. Sure. Okay, so I would say B. A mí tampoco. A mí tampoco. So, why a mí?
Because we are, when you're doing a reply to somebody who says a mí no me gusta,
the only, if you want to agree with them, you're going to say a mí tampoco. Okay, so it's always
this a mí, a mí. That's just the way it has to be done. You can't say yo tampoco, because that's,
that's in a completely different kind of, you can say it, but not in this context. It's got to be
a mí. Muy bien. Muy bien. And again, we've done lots of lessons on this, so if you, if you're not
sure, then you've got tons of stuff you can study. Yeah. We actually have 30 questions, because I put
number six, and then another number six. So, the number six. So, it's number seven, the next one,
even though it says six.
Ayer me encontraba mal y no a trabajar. Ayer me encontraba mal y no fui a trabajar. Ayer me
encontraba mal y no iba a trabajar. O ayer me encontraba mal y no iré a trabajar.
So, I would say, ey, yo no fui. Okay, muy bien. So, we have the fui and iba, because iré is the
future, so it doesn't make sense with ayer. That wouldn't make any sense, yeah. So, but we have fui
and iba. So, why would you go for fui? Well, because the sentence, if I said I was ill yesterday,
and so I wasn't going to work, maybe they would have to add something. I wasn't going to work
when suddenly my boss called me, and I had to go. But no, I just, I just didn't go. Fui, one off.
Yeah, I just didn't go. Exactly. It happened, and that was it. You can't change it, and it's,
exactly. Muy bien. Okay. Okay, so number eight, le has dado el sobre a María?
Le has dado el sobre a María? A. Sí. Se la he dado. Se la he dado. B. Sí. Se lo he dado.
Sí. Sí. Lo he dado. Moving into A2 now. Yeah. So, I would say. Can you feel the change? I can feel
the change. Yeah, we're into the la la rule here. Okay, so I would say B, because we're talking
about el sobre. Sí. Se lo he dado. Muy bien. So, why C, if it's María, why not, why is it C,
and not la? Because C is actually pretending to be C, it's really le, and because this is an
exchange verb, so that you're giving something to her. So, the lo is referring to the sobre,
and the le is referring to María. Muy bien. Number nine. Quién es? A. Es yo. B. Estoy yo.
C. Soy yo. Great question, this one, because I used to say es yo. The answer is soy yo. Soy yo.
Muy bien. Soy yo. Quién es? Soy yo. So, what if it's you and I? Quién es? Somos nosotros. Somos
nosotros. Yeah. It has to agree with the person. We are us. Not like in English, it's me. No,
we have to say I am me. Yeah. Okay. Okay, and the last four. Number ten.
¿Ha ido persona? A. ¿Ha ido alguna persona? B. ¿Ha ido alguien persona? C. ¿Ha ido alguna
persona? Okay. So, yo diría sí, alguna persona. Alguna persona. So, why not alguien?
Well, alguien is someone. Someone. It doesn't fit in that. It doesn't. Some one person.
Some one person. Yeah, some one. Some one person. And algún. Not somebody. Yeah. Algún. Algún
doesn't fit, doesn't match because it's a describer. It needs to be alguna because it's
feminine. Muy bien. Muy bien. Number eleven.
Okay. So, the answer is A. No grites. No grites. No gritar sounds like Tarzan.
So, why do we use the subjunctive? What are we doing here?
When you do a negative command, it actually has the same, in the tú form, the same
structure as the subjunctive. Exactly. Yeah. Negative command in tú in this case. And when
you do the subjunctive with the new course that I keep talking about and I've got to finish,
you'll find that one of the characteristics of the subjunctive is telling people to do something.
So, it makes sense that that would use the same as the subjunctive. Yeah. Exactly.
Two more, guys. Number twelve.
Marca is a brand. Okay.
Okay. So, I would say nos encanta. Nos encanta. Let's say sí.
Exactly the same. Nos is referring to me and my friends, so plural, we.
And then... My friends and I.
My friends and I. Yeah.
And marca is the brand and that's the encanta singular.
Yeah. Okay. Muy bien. Muy bien, Gordon. And the last one, thirteen.
This is difficult. This one, I was thinking,
ooh, let's see how people do with that one. Okay. So, I would say,
ey. Muy bien. No es suya. No es suya. So, why? So, we've got one agenda,
but then you have two people, Juan and Tania. So, why don't you say suyas?
Because we're not talking about the owners of the device, the thing. When we use the su,
we're referring to the item that pertains to them, not to the people who own it. Got nothing to do
with it. Yeah. We have videos on this as well. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Wow. So, there you are.
Now, if you have managed to get all or most of these correct up to here, you can now say that
you have nivel a dos. Okay. Nivel dios. Nivel a dos. So, that means that when we do the next one,
which we'll do, we're going to do a series of these going forward, then you can see whether
you can get to the next level and that will be... Next level is B1, B2 and then the following week
is C1, C2. Okay. Now, watch out because when we get to C1, C2, I'm going to be shitting myself.
Well, I would say A. Well, that's wrong.
We'll cut that out. We'll go back. Let's go back. Ask me it again. Yeah.
We'll see all the cuts, yeah, when they're in the video. I choose and then... Yeah, yeah.
...a different movement. I think the correct answer is...
My whole body's changed. I'm in a different position.
And I have an angry face that I didn't have before. Yeah. Exactly.
Now, a word from our sponsor. We're not going to promote any books today. No. No, no. No,
no. We don't need to because today, look, we're going through these level tests, okay,
and we're going to do more. Everything that you need to know about to get through these level
tests, we've covered. We've done a lesson on it. I mean, we've been doing lessons for how many years?
I don't even know. Like, 10? Yeah.
More? 11, 12?
The website and YouTube is a jockey with lessons, for most I mean. So, all that you have to do to
look for a theme, to look for something, we've got a brilliant search bar. So, all you do is you put
the information that you're looking for in the search bar on the website, press enter, and it'll
show you all the lessons that are available with those themes. So, that's how you can find out what
you want to know. If something hasn't worked out on this test, go and look for it. Look for the
lesson. If gustar has caused you a problem, go and do all the... We've got tons of gustar lessons.
And books on that.
Exactly. Yeah. So, that's what... How you can improve your Spanish is this. Find out where
you need to improve, what areas you need to improve, and then study. Study them and use our
website. I mean, obviously, there are tons of other resources everywhere, but on the website,
you just put in what you want and you'll get it.
We also have help sheets.
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So, all the lessons come with help sheets as well. So, if you want to
then study in depth, then you get the help sheets and then you can work with them as well.
Okay.
