In this instalment of "Build with SAM," we take you on a captivating journey through the creation of a circular weekend cabin, a collaborative endeavour with our construction partner, Kozo.
Kozo has pioneered an ingenious, dynamic system comprising fixed components and modular elements within a skeletal framework. These elements seamlessly unite to craft an energy-efficient building envelope that's both wind and water-resistant, reminiscent of a life-sized Meccano set. When combined with our SAM technology, this innovation elevates circular construction to new heights.
Step inside the weekend cabin and immerse yourself in its cosy ambience. You'll discover a well-designed mezzanine, optimizing the overall living space within this compact setting.
Join us as we delve into the art of circular cabin construction, where form and function converge to create a truly unique retreat.
Nestled in the woods next to the Albert Canal near Orlem,
we've built something special together with our fellow sustainable builders Kozo.
Kozo developed a unique and dynamic system of fixed parts and modules
that can be combined to form a wind and water tight energy efficient structure.
Using this proprietary circular construction system, Kozo built their first cabin which
is not only completely demountable but is also realized in sustainable materials.
Thanks to Sam's ability to conceal the utilities within our cabinets,
we maximize the livable floor space.
The cabin's vaulted ceilings and loft-like feel also helps to enlarge the space and bring in
plenty of natural light. Kozo made a great decision by choosing for this white and
light wood finish as it truly complements the home and helps to give it that warm and airy feel.
Our four-unit fully furnished kitchen and media slash heating cabinets are back in this design
as well as our very popular Murphy bed, this time placed next to a new member of the Sam family.
A bedroom convector cabinet with ample space for clothing at the top
while providing warmth via the bottom.
Where one would usually build a dedicated technical room,
we concealed all of the utilities behind these four doors in the bathroom.
A heat pump and boiler are out of sight and out of mind yet fully accessible.
And just outside the bathroom under the stairs we place the switchboard of yes that's right
our 36th Sam. But that's not all, Kozo added a cozy space under the roof perfect for kids to play
or as an extra storage space. This space makes use of the height of the cabin and adds yet more
functionality to this holiday home. This project is the beginning of a great partnership between
Our joint vision of developing sustainable products for the construction sector is what
propels us forward and we're well on our way to building more of these wonderful houses.
