Tractor Legend: International 1455XL | Ploughing | Pure sound
#agricultural #farming
The holy grail for many European International Harvester enthusiasts is the 1455XL. For nearly 20 years this was the brands go-to heavy tractor for farmers and contractors. Today it has reached a high collector status with good examples fetching top prices. This tractor has been restored both mechanically and optically (except for the cab) quite recently. It is seen ploughing with a 4 furrow Kverneland.
The model 1455 was introduced in 1977 and features a 6,6 liter DT-402 6 cylinder turbocharged engine. In 1981 the models got a serious update with the introduction of the Porsche-designed XL cab. The engine of 145 horsepower remained the same. This was coupled to a 20x9 gearbox. After Tenneco purchased the International Harvester Company in 1984 (and merging it with Case and David Brown) the 1255 and 1455 were available in the red and black livery in 3 different versions, up to the end of its life late 1996. That is when the final model was produced in the Neuss plant in Western Germany.
