Burning cars, tear gas, LAPD, and the National Guard. Another fun weekend in Los Angeles! Let’s talk about the groups behind the protest.
Los Angeles is on fire again, but who's really behind these protests?
Welcome to America Uncovered. I'm Matt Gnaizda, filling in for Chris Chappell,
who's currently trapped in his car, surrounded by angry protesters.
Before we begin, in 2025, more than half of companies are already using AI.
Microsoft, Amazon, Google, they've all laid off thousands of people,
and 40% of people fear AI will take their job this year.
It sounds scary, but here's what you're not seeing.
These same companies are also hiring, hiring people who understand AI and can use AI tools.
If you have a job, run a business, freelance, or are building something of your own,
knowing how to use AI is not optional anymore.
The people who learn AI will outrun those who don't.
So, if you want to stay ahead, I recommend you start learning AI today.
Specifically, I recommend you join this upcoming two-day AI training.
It will take you from a beginner to advanced AI professional in just 16 hours.
It's valued at $8.95, but we've partnered with Outskill
to provide 1,000 free seats for America Uncovered viewers.
This two-day program offers 16 hours of live AI training,
spread across two days, and it's happening this coming weekend,
on Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
You'll gain in-depth knowledge on a wide range of topics,
like how to create amazing AI images and videos using AI tools,
and how to automate your work to save time and make you more productive,
and even build a side hustle that can make you $10,000 a month.

Also, the introduction call and first session for the two-day training
happens this Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, so don't miss it.
Back to the show.
Over the weekend, Los Angeles erupted in civil unrest.
It started on Friday, when ICE began conducting raids across the city.
Almost immediately, protesters flooded the streets
with massive protests breaking out in different areas.
So far, nothing too out of the ordinary, and a bit of looting.
Can't have a proper protest until you've smashed through a door
and swiped a few cases of Modelo from your local convenience store.
Still nothing out of the ordinary for Los Angeles.
But as confrontations with agents and LAPD really started to pick up,
protesters upped their game and started making Molotov cocktails.
By the way, this is not Home Depot product placement.
Meanwhile, ICE agents outside the entrance to a detention center
were forced to deal with protesters for hours.
It got so bad that even moving through the city became dangerous,
with one protester being run over as he attempted to block a government convoy.
Man, we got real-life GTA V before we got GTA VI,
and that was just between protesters and the authorities.
Let's not forget all the violence committed against businesses
and people just trying to live their lives.
We saw protesters burning Waymo cars, which forced them to suspend services in LA.
As one local news station reported,
It could turn very volatile if you move law enforcement in there in the wrong way
and turn what is just a bunch of people having fun watching cars burn
into a massive confrontation and altercation.
Yeah, a bunch of people having fun watching cars burn.
It's nothing to worry about, as long as police don't get involved.
The media assures us everything is fine.
Most of those demonstrations were very peaceful.
Are the people who write the news on strike or something?
I'm getting really sick of reruns.
In any case, Trump wasn't buying it.
Being a man known for his calm demeanor,
the president put out a plan to bring peace back to the city.
I have a little statement, they say, they spin, we hit.
Well, that's one way of putting it.
That's why on Saturday, Trump called on the California National Guard,
ordering 2,000 troops into the city to end the riots.
Additionally, federal pressure triggered the Los Angeles Police Department
to step up its own operations,
with LAPD officers taking a more active role in keeping the peace.
So with all this chaos going on, you might be asking,
who's behind all this?
Are these just spontaneous protests?
For a lot of middle-class Angelenos who joined in,
yeah, it might have felt spontaneous at first.
ICE is deporting illegal immigrants,
and they're not treated to the same due process that American citizens get.
What could be better than taking to the streets with your friends
for a good cause on a sunny afternoon?
And then it just got out of hand.
Nobody's fault, right?
Well, no.
These protests were anything but spontaneous.
Have you considered, for instance,
who had the forethought to print out all these glossy signs and hand them out?
Well, that's an easy one.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation, or PSL.
Stop me if this sounds familiar.
PSL is a revolutionary communist party
which seeks to abolish capitalism and usher in a new socialist utopia.
Its leadership is deeply intertwined with outfits like the Answer Coalition,
Breakthrough News, and the People's Forum.
And those groups get a large part of their funding
from multi-millionaire tech mogul Neville Singham.
Remember him?
Our sister channel China Uncensored actually did a whole episode on him
and his involvement with the Gaza protests,
which took over American campuses.
To keep things brief,
Singham made his millions by selling his tech company ThoughtWorks
and later served as a consultant for the Chinese tech giant Huawei.
He went on to form a network of shady non-profits that spiked tensions within the US
while at the same time shilling for the Chinese Communist Party.
Now, that's pretty bad.
But we can't blame everything on the CCP.
I know, Xi.
I know.
The thing is, some of these groups are merely inspired by the Chinese Communist Party.
Take Refuse Fascism,
which has also been organizing protests within LA.
Refuse Fascism is itself a branch of the Revolutionary Communist Party, or RCP.
The RCP was formed in 1975 as an anti-revisionist Maoist party.
Because, you know, Nikita Khrushchev just wasn't bloodthirsty enough for their liking.
Guess all that Pepsi he was drinking quenched his thirst.
Refuse Fascism was created in 2016 for the explicit purpose
of driving President Trump out of office.
But seeing as Trump is back in office, I don't see the reason for all the hate.
I mean, if your entire organization exists just for you to oppose this one guy,
you'd think they'd be happy he's giving them something to do.
It's like your favorite show getting a reboot after years of being canceled.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if the King of the Hill reboot garners an equally violent response.
Now, there's a whole constellation of groups fueling these LA riots,
and to try and unpack these ideologies and funding of each of them would take hours.
But I'll give you one more example to show you that these protests are not just about deportations.
In large part, they're about overthrowing capitalism.
Let's talk about Unión del Barrio.
Imagine a sort of Latin-inspired Black Lives Matter.
They put out emergency calls for protests after ICE started making its rounds,
referring to the agents as terrorists.
Now, this one's especially fun because not only are they communists, they're racist communists.
Just look at their party program.
It claims we are Raza internationalists.
So what is Raza?
Well, that's the Spanish word for race.
But in this case, it's a broad selection of Latino and indigenous ethnic groups
seeking independence from so-called settler colonialism.
Their manifesto continues,
We are la raza, the people of these lands,
and we challenge any and all manifestations of colonial, imperialist, and neoliberal oppression.
Basically, they want to create an ethnostate.
Now, when a handful of white people in Appalachia,
whose taco night includes old El Paso hard shells and sour cream, says that, everyone's appalled.
But if it's Latinos in LA who use soft corn tortillas and slow-cooked El Pastor,
well, that is social justice.
Now, you may be asking, but where's the communism?
Don't worry, there's plenty of that.
Unión del Barrio defines itself as an anti-colonial fight for land and socialism.
And their website even celebrates such communist icons as Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and Hugo Chavez.
Sure, there are some of the greatest mass murderers this side of the Atlantic,
but America is a land of racist, white, settler-colonial, capitalist pigs.
Just please, please don't deport us to Cuba or Venezuela.
And with all this chaos going on in Los Angeles,
I'm sure that back in Beijing, Xi Jinping is having a good laugh.
And don't get left behind when everyone else is learning how to use AI.
