Too late! California Regrets after what SpaceX Elon Musk just did in Texas...
This is Starbase City, where SpaceX is headquartered.
In fact, the rocket company once called another place home for 20 years. It's Hawthorne, California. But that's a thing of the past.
In 2025, Elon Musk pulled the plug on California.
SpaceX — one of the most revolutionary aerospace companies in history — has officially moved its headquarters... to Texas. But this wasn’t some sudden move. Everybody knows that this was a calculated retreat from a state Musk says is no longer friendly to innovation.
At the heart of the storm, Elon gives California Senate Bill 1250 the finger. A bill designed to tighten corporate governance, give shareholders more power, and cap executive compensation. In short, to rein in big companies. But to Musk? It was war.

He called it a “hostile act against the free economy.”
SpaceX has always thrived on bold moves and long-term bets. But with new California laws threatening that freedom, Musk had had enough. In a move that shook Silicon Valley, he filed the paperwork.
SpaceX was officially leaving California. And where was it going?
Starbase.
Starbase, Texas — once a dusty patch in Boca Chica — is now the beating heart of SpaceX. This isn’t just a change of address. It’s a strategic migration. Leadership, operations, and decision-making — all moving to a state that embraces Musk’s vision.

California is feeling the real financial sting of SpaceX's decision to relocate. The aerospace giant has employed thousands in Hawthorne, contributing millions in tax revenue, local investments, and collaborations with nearby universities and suppliers.
For Sonia Contreras, who owns a local restaurant, the news came as a shock.
“It’s scary because I have a lot of business with them,” she said. “If they leave, I don’t know what’s going to happen to us.”
Contreras knows many SpaceX employees by name—her eatery, the Fabulous Grill, sits just a block from their headquarters at Crenshaw and El Segundo Boulevard. Although business slowed during the pandemic, her connection with SpaceX staff helped keep the doors open. Some employees even gifted the restaurant team SpaceX shirts, which they proudly wear.
