She grew up in a strict, deeply religious household led by her step-grandfather, a Pentecostal bishop known for his harsh discipline. The environment was tough—he was physically abusive toward Grace and her siblings. At the age of 13, Grace moved to the United States to join her parents in Syracuse, New York. As a rebellious teenager, she left home at 15 and began living like a hippie. At just 16, she was discovered by a modeling agent and soon began working in New York before moving to Paris, where her androgynous beauty and bold presence made her a sensation. Grace quickly landed on the covers of major fashion magazines like Elle and Vogue, and the world’s top photographers lined up to capture her image. She quickly became one of the most sought-after models and gained global recognition for her unique and unconventional look. But modeling wasn’t enough. Grace wanted to express herself fully — and that led her to music. Her debut album was released in 1977, and it didn’t take long before she became a music icon. He was one of 5,000 men who auditioned to play Ivan Drago — but at first, he was rejected for being too tall next to Sylvester Stallone. Eventually, though, Dolph got the part. His Russian character became one of Hollywood’s most iconic villains. The movie earned $300 million at the box office and turned Dolph into a superstar overnight. He once explained, “I literally walked into the theater as Grace’s boyfriend, with people trying to shoo me out of the way to take pictures of her — and 90 minutes later, when I walked out, people were trying to take pictures of me instead.” Grace and Dolph were living a wild life. They went to big parties, hung out with celebrities, and traveled all over. Grace, who was 9 years older than Dolph, loved doing crazy things. Grace later said, “I did it out of desperation — we had been together for years, and he moved to LA, a place I absolutely hated, against my better judgment. Then he comes back from a trip, and Tom [Dolph’s manager] won’t even let me say hello. What’s going on?” Grace said she brought the gun to feel more confident, but never meant to shoot. She broke down the door to Dolph’s apartment, causing a scandal and accidentally injuring him. Grace also set fire to Dolph’s clothes and some of his belongings. Reflecting on that moment, she said, “In one of the many lives I never got to live, another Grace — one who never existed — shot Dolph then and there… And that was the end of the ballad of Grace and Dolph.” Despite everything, Dolph chose not to call the police or press charges. But after that, there was no way to save their relationship. It was a wild love story — but sadly, it ended in a very shocking way. Today, nearly 40 years have passed since their breakup. Dolph was married to Anette Qviberg for 17 years, and they had two daughters before they divorced in 2011.
