Finally tonight, what are you planning
to do this summer? Whatever it is, it
will not be as cool as what the Gwyneith
Mercy Academy High School crew team will
be doing. Jason Dumas explains. It took
the Gwynet Mercy Crew program just seven
years to become national champions.
Their historic season has been led by a
group of seniors known as the Final
Five. They've meant everything. I mean,
they're true leaders and um the younger
underassmen, they look up to them and um
they've just really embraced the role of
captains and seniors and each of them in
their own unique fashion are incredible
as a captain and a leader. Gwennet has
won a city chip, then the national chip.
Next up, the Henley Reata in London.
Safe to say they are ready to hop on
that flight. I actually had no idea when
um we were told we were going to row
there. it it doesn't feel real. Like I
can't believe we're even going. Racing
internationally is incredible. Like no
one gets to say that they do that. It's
a once in a lifetime experience. Um got
all of our outfits. We're we're getting
our blazers ready. We're super excited.
All the winning is what the public sees,
but it's the year-long grind that has
made this season so special. It's been
really competitive all season, like back
and forth between other teams, like
everyone pushing each other. Um, so it's
it's definitely been a lot of stiff
competition at every race. A great bond.
I feel like we've seen each other in our
worst moments and our best moments. Like
going from actually like dying rolling
on the ground at practices to
celebrating and like splashing water.
It's so fun. Here's to one last
celebration for the final five.
Reporting in Ka Haken, I'm Jason Dumas,
Channel 6 Action News. That Henley Riata
in London comes up the first week of
July.
