Hey everybody, welcome back to Guns and Gadgets, the premier source for Second Amendment news.
We're going to be doing a review today, and we are reviewing the BulletSafe VP3 Bulletproof Vest.
I want to first say thank you to BulletSafe for sending these out to the channel for review.
As somebody who has worn soft and hard body armor for over two decades, I will tell you that this is
actually a pretty comfortable soft body armor system. I've worn it about the last week,
it's easy to get in and out of the vehicle, it's easy to sit down in long periods of time,
and I mean it's like 94 degrees right now, and it's not horrible. It is hot, but those who have
been wearing body armor for whatever you do, you know that it gets hot in the summer anyway,
but it's not terrible. This is a level 3A NIJ certified vest, and this will stop everything
up to .44 Magnum, and we're going to be shooting it with a couple different type of calibers,
and ultimately see if we can defeat it. Now first I'm going to show you one of the panels
from the vest that we're going to be shooting. It is thin, it's not a very very thick system at all.
It is pliable, you can see it's conforming to my body, and it's not uncomfortable to wear.
If you're wearing armor, you know it's there, but there are some that are much more rigid and much
uncomfortable out on the market, and BulletSafe did a good job on this one. Now on their panel,
it does say NIJ level 3A certified and warranty for five years, which is good. This is the VP3
carrier. It has eight points of adjustment. There's velcro on front and back either side
with your side straps, and you have a front and rear side strap. Makes it pretty much
infinitely adjustable. They also have a hook and loop panel up front if you want to put your
blood type on there. I just have their little morale patch on there, and one thing that's cool
in this price point, and these come in at $299. If you want to order one, I have a 10% off coupon
here on the screen, and the link is down below, but one thing that's cool is that they actually
have a pocket front and back where you can add hard armor, and that would bring this up to a
level four vest if you add your rifle plate front and back as you can see, and that is pretty cool.
Some other companies are starting to do that now, and I think it's ingenious. I wish they would have
done that years and years ago when I was still in the market so you didn't have to have multiple
vests for multiple different missions. So the VP3 comes in at $299.97, which is an unheard of price
for the features that you get. They are made here in America, which is huge for a lot of people.
They make it here in the US with domestic and foreign materials. The ballistic insert is 100%
made in the USA. The nylon carriers may contain imported components, just so everybody's aware.
Like I said, the one we're shooting today is a level 3A certified vest, and it'll protect up to
44 magnum, and the VP3 is extremely lightweight. So if you have an extra small size, the vest
itself weighs 3.9 pounds, and it goes up to 4X, which weighs 6.9 pounds. The design is comfortable
and breathable. It has a padded mesh backing, and BulletSafe has moved their production to here,
the United States of America. Now with that out of the way, let's go shoot this thing.
Okay, we're going to start out with 38 Special, Colt Detective Special, a little snub nose.
Let's go see.
So here is our impact, the actual bullet. Ah, it's hot. You can still see it. There's the copper
right there. No penetration. 38 Special. I'm going to step up to 9, the Canik TP9SF Elite.
Let's check it out. All right, impact number two. That was a 38 Special. That's the 9.
Nothing has made its way through. Round is still in it. You can see it,
but it probably won't translate to camera. I'll step it up. Okay, Glock 22, 40 cal. Let's do it.
Definitely hit harder. All right, I split the difference. 38, 9. Here's the 40.
Didn't go through, and it's definitely still in there. It's actually right here. Let's keep going.
45 for all the 1911 guys. I'm going to try to stay to the right of the vest here.
Love 45. All righty. 38 Special, 9 millimeter, 40 cal, 45.
Nothing went through. There it is. It's right over here. Let's step it up. Now,
one thing I wanted to mention that I forgot to say at the truck is that these vests have,
with the offer, stab and slash protection as well. And because that's cool,
and we already tested 9, but I wanted to see what it does against the PCC,
even though it's still 9 millimeter. I love shooting my little SIG, and it looks
pretty cool shooting it, so let's see what it does. Three rounds. Why not?
All right. One, two, three. Nothing's made it through. I have one abrasion
mark from the plate. We have it on some steel targets, but nothing's gone through.
All right. Let's keep going. 357 SIG. Now, this puts it into the 3A category. Let's see.
All right. 357 SIG. Definitely a bigger hole than the rest. It definitely went through a
couple layers. It's still in there, and it's quite hot. It did not go through. So, it does 3A. I
know it's not supposed to stop a rifle, but I brought one anyway. All right. We did the MPX
SIG. Now, let's do the MCX SIG. 5.56. Here we go.
All right. One, two, three in the 5.56. This vest is not rated for it. I just wanted to defeat it,
since I'm out here anyway, sweating. It did go through. One, two, three, but look at the
amount of spall. That's a lot of spall. As a backing, we used a piece of AR-500,
little A target. I mean, it's not supposed to stop it, but it stopped everything it's supposed to.
Let you know that there is a difference between rifle armor and pistol armor, and a lot of people
ask, and just showed you that rifle armor is for rifle rounds. But, multi-hit protection,
we've shot it, what, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven times,
minus the three rifle rounds, and it did its job. All right, guys. So, I'm impressed with the
BulletSafe VP3 vest. For the price, under 300 bucks, you're going to get protection from handguns
from the most common calibers up to .44 Magnum. Easily concealable under a t-shirt, a hoodie,
a jacket, a light jacket. Very, very easy. As somebody who has worn armor for far too many
years, I'm telling you, this is a great value, and it did what it's supposed to do. Again,
check out the link down below if you're in the market. I'll also have a code down there,
GADGET10. You can save 10% off of your order from BulletSafe. Thank you for sending it to the
channel. I appreciate each and every single one of you. Until we see each other again, be safe,
stay vigilant, and carry a gun to keep you, your friends, your family, your community safe,
and wear some armor too. Take care.
