Also tonight, a medical helicopter is
still sitting in the middle of a
neighborhood in Montgomery County. It
had to make an emergency landing in
White Marsh Township. Pen Medicine says
the helicopter was heading from Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center to
Wingsfield Aviation Airport in Blue Bell
for refueling. Well, the NTSB and the
FAA are both working to figure out why
this happened. Thankfully, no one was
hurt when the chopper was forced to make
that landing. Action News reporter
Walter Perez live at the scene in White
Marsh Township with the very latest. Now
Walter,
well Rick and Sher, your timing is
really, really good because as you can
see behind me, the crane is here to
finish the job and remove that
helicopter. Now, investigators have been
dismantling that helicopter as much as
possible to make the crane's job as easy
as possible. And today, we spoke with
neighbors who were more than grateful
that nobody was injured. Neighbors we
spoke with say they were having a hard
time believing what they were seeing.
Right around 7:45 yesterday evening,
right down over the house, two down, saw
the blue helicopter and um it was
clearly too low and then it dropped
pretty quickly right into the yard. What
Becky Herabin and others who live in
this part of White Marsh Township
witnessed was this Pennstar medical
helicopter making an emergency landing
in their neighborhood and coming to rest
on someone's front lawn. The pilot doing
so without the tail rotor, which as you
can see fell off during the descent and
landed on a lawn about a block away.
Neighbors saying they're amazed nobody
was hurt. I I don't know how the
helicopter did what he did because the
kids were all over the place even then
when it was going on. I mean, they were
in their own backyard grilling. So, it
was it's seriously a miracle. There were
people mowing their lawns, walking. I
mean, at all times the neighborhoods
filled. So, it it is pretty miraculous
that they were able to do it, but it um
it was impressive. According to a
statement issued this morning by Penn
Medicine, the helicopter was in the
middle of its schedule for the day,
having lifted off from Penn Presbyterian
Medical Center on its way to Wingsfield
and Blue Bell for refueling when
something went wrong. people who live
nearby are simply happy it all ended the
way it did. We're just grateful that
they were so amazing at landing it and
really commend them for bringing it down
um where they did and not injuring
themselves, any people.
All right, back out live here once
again. There were no patients on board
the chopper at the time and all three
crew members on board walked away with
minor injuries. The FAA and the NTSB
saying it'll be a few weeks before they
can determine why the helicopter
malfunctioned. Reporting live from White
Marsh Township, Walter Perez, Channel 6
Action News. Sherry, yeah, it's all the
talk there in the neighborhood. Okay,
Walter.
