It's Embarrassing! NASA just exposed Truth on Blue Origin's New Glenn Big Issue...
Far above our heads, the International Space Station is quietly aging, creaking under the strain of time, wear, and limited funding.
Back on Earth, NASA, the ISS’s main partner, is turning to private companies with urgency, pushing them to speed up rocket development.
One rocket in the spotlight? Blue Origin’s New Glenn. It finally launched in January after years of delays.
NASA has big hopes for New Glenn—it’s among the few rockets powerful enough to carry hefty modules, gear, and cargo into orbit. That’s crucial as NASA looks to commercial options to eventually replace the ISS.
But with New Glenn’s slow progress over the years, NASA might be losing patience.
Let’s break it all down in today’s episode of Techmap.

The US national space agency is actively supporting the development of commercial space stations to replace the ISS. This ensures a continuous US presence in LEO post-ISS. As part of NASA's Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program initiative, Orbital Reef stands out as a bright spot. This commercial space station project is led by the aerospace giant, Blue Origin, funded by its sugar daddy, Jeff Bezos, in partnership with Sierra Space, Boeing, and Redwire. It aims to serve as a mixed-use facility for research, manufacturing, and high-end tourism, with NASA providing $172 million in funding through the CLD program. Orbital Reef is designed to accommodate up to 10 occupants and could potentially replace some ISS functions. More notably, Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket, the main means of transport for Orbital Reef, finally made its first flight in January 2025. New Glenn, over 320 feet tall with reusable first-stage technology, is capable of transporting large modules, equipment, and cargo into orbit. It is currently towards the second launch in late Spring.

The second stage, referred to as GS2, for New Glenn’s second flight, arrived at the company’s launch facility at Launch Complex 36 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The GS2 mobile test stand would now be in the Horizontal Integration Facility at LC-36 for mating operations with GS2. Afterwards, both the GS2 and test stand will be rolled out to the launch pad for testing and an eventual static fire of the stage’s twin BE-3U engines.
