There is a story recorded in the Buddhist scriptures. Once, Buddha Shakyamuni told his disciples: “Countless kalpas ago, there was a cultivator named ‘The Immortal of Forbearance’. One day he was meditating in the mountains, while King Kali with his four ministers was touring around for pleasure. King Kali came and asked him what practice he was doing. The cultivator replied, ‘The practice I am doing is humiliation and forbearance.’ The king immediately drew his sword and said: ‘Alright, let me test you! See if you can really endure humiliation.’ As he said this, he slashed at the cultivator’s body with the sword.
