Good morning and welcome to Dude RV.
Hey, I appreciate you stopping by. And
of course, say it with me, you got here
just in time. That's right, it's Friday
and it's time for a special popup
edition of Friday's Finds. Now, those
popup editions are typically reserved
for your higherend products
or complex products.
uh products that take a little more
build time and we've got one of those.
And and I've had a number of companies
that have been that have reached out to
me over the years wanting me to do a
video on this, but they always want me
to install it. And I'm not going to
install an RV water
heater. I have a perfectly I have a
great Insta Heat system on the on the
Magnitude. I can tell you it's a model
TWWH-201, the RB water
heater. Here's our
specification
panel. It's an IND demand. So, sent to
us by In
Demand. 12 volt DC 55,000
BTU. Uh gross weight is 14 kg.
Let's get it out of the box and see what
I have to do to be able to pro to use it
because we're actually I'm going to
actually put this to work right here on
the
bench or the the the
table. My catch
all. We live in the motor home. We're
waiting on the the
studio. Actually, the studio is going to
be the over there and partially over
there.
Not here. So, let's get this box open
and see what's in
it. End them on in the
man troubleshooting. Here's our control
panel. Some
connections.
Here on the back, we're going to have
cold in, hot out, gas
in, and we're going to need power. 12vt
power.
Got to turn
it. We'll be able to drain
it. Pop off valve in case it gets too
hot. Let me sort out all my connection
stuff here and we'll get her hooked up
and producing some hot water. I have the
water heater working and I and I've had
a thought. Let let me give you the
overview and then we'll get into where
I'm going to go next with this video
because this this was there's not much
to see here. All the internal parts are
inside. We've got power and I'm powering
it with a landscape lighting
transformer. Puts out 12 volts, the
right
amperage. Got it connected to the water
hose here. I have a propane line there
and that actually came off of the older
uh portable that
froze. So, that one has a bad leak in
it. So, I've taken some of the stuff off
of it to set this up. All that's left is
is to turn it on. We're currently turned
on. We can turn it off. That'll if
you're running on a battery, that's a
good idea. And turn it on.
Ah, there it is. So, it goes up to 114.
It was Celsius. So, it goes up to
10. I don't know how high it goes. I had
it
114. Probably going to have it normally
about 102, but when I fill the Oh, I'm
getting ahead of myself. Normally, when
you're showering, you'll probably have
it 102 to 104. 104 is a really hot
shower. And now, all we do is turn on
the water.
[Music]
that flickering is the frame rate on the
camera, but it it jumped right up to
105°. I mean, it's an Insta Heat hot
water
heater and it's
hot. That's pretty cool.
And it's quiet.
This one makes less noise than the one
that we have in the motor
home, which is a good
thing. All right, so we're done. We're
going to let that cool
off. And here's what we're going to do
next, cuz this video is too short for a
popup stand along Friday's finds.
So, that was where we were showering all
last summer. I I made the mistake of not
taking that
down and it froze and there's there's
something that's it leaks really bad.
So, we're going to take that down. I'm
tired of the swing being our privacy
screen. The wind just keeps picking that
thing up and blowing it around. So, I
need to get that someplace
better. And during the winter, it was
cold. So, we put up the the Vivore
shelter and that is weathered extremely
well, but it
is it's it's at the end of its
lifespan. Uh the UV rays, especially
over here, have degraded the the fabric
to the point where it's it's about to
colltorm and she's gone.
And this is the the one that we've been
using out here, which it works perfect
if you're taking a quick
shower. But if you're taking a long
shower or you're trying to fill your hot
tub, it's not very
precise. So you have to mess with the
flow rate and all of
that. It's it's become problematic.
So, we've put a lot of hours in use on
of We've had a lot of hours of use on
the hot tap. So, we're going to we're
going to replace the hot tap and both of
those. We're going to pack those away.
That one's going to go away. That one's
going to get stowed away. And I'm going
to rework our shower setup
here. Build a housing, a weatherproof
housing for this. Now, the outside is
weatherproof, but I really don't want
water getting inside the cabinet. So,
I'm going to build a a housing to go
over that and keep the rain off of
it. So, we'll rework
that.
We'll fabricate
that. I got to go to work. Y'all got to
keep in mind this is temporary. you
know, we're we're like four at at the
most 6 weeks out from moving into the
house. So, this is strictly to get us to
that
point, but it it gets the job done.
Control is out of the out of the direct
rain. We're plumbed going through the
actual
uh water softener.
We're good to go. I guess I guess I
guess I should have turned the water on
so that you could see it operating. Let
me let me do
that. Power
on. Water going.
One of these back
here. Probably need to move
that so that it were not right
there. But that's just a couple
screws. Yeah. Nice and hot already. I
like it. I don't have a cover on. Oh,
no. Need a cover of some kind. How about
this dirty
one? All
right. I think I earned some brownie
points. So, the the shower is the temp
shower. Now, keep in mind this is just
temporary for the next several weeks,
but she's very happy
with
the the lattice screen. And the main
reason that we we wanted that is
because occasionally we get weekenders
out here riding around on their side by
sides and if you want to take a shower
when the sun is up, you you got to pay
attention to what the the noise is. When
you hear them coming, you got to you got
to run over here. The shower's
done. It
works. I'm very impressed with this
water heater. Uh, it's much easier to
control
than what we were
using. I'm actually able to fill my tub
and do a and get a good soak every
night. I got I got I I have nerve stuff
and so I need to soak and I was having a
hard time keeping a constant temperature
when I'm filling that tub with the other
setup. It took a lot of finesse.
This one little bit of finesse. I found
if you want to get above 104, 105, you
got to slow the flow of
water. Uh we have about 52
PSI coming from the city
grid. We can take a shower. It gets up
to about 104 105 degrees, no problem.
And that's great for a shower. But when
I'm filling a tub of water like that, I
need it to get up to 110
112. Uh, and I found if I just back
off. So, I have a I have a valve here.
So, I can kind of close that down
and it works much better. It It slows
the flow enough that the water gets
heated up. I have a high flow rate, 52
PSI, but I got a high flow rate because
we have a 2 inch water line coming from
the road. So, we have lots of water for
taking a
shower with the hot water heater, which
is what this video is
about. I like it. That's a great
investment. And here shortly, we're
going to get Yappy's doing the hair and
we're going to she's going to talk to
you about it. just give you her two
cents
worth. Be right back. We have the shower
expert with
us. You happy? Hey, tell me about this
shower. Well, if you've got a shower
outside, there's just not a lot of
choices. But I will tell you, this is a
game changer because you have plenty of
space, hot water, and
privacy. Yes. So when the neighbors
drive by, you're all covered. Then a
plus is we've got this water heater,
Insta Heat. It does a great job. I'm not
sure it's not better than the one in our
motor home because it keeps it warm and
doesn't go back and forth. This thing is
doing a fabulous job. So a lot of that
back and forth. There's there's a lot of
misunderstanding about the insta heat
and
RVs and there there can be some
challenges with the the cold surge when
you pause your shower and that's going
to happen with with any Insta Heat. But
this one is way quieter. Yes. Than the
one that we have. And it does seem to be
more efficient as far as being able to
heat the water faster and regulate the
temperature better. And comparing that
to what we were using.
Oh, this is night and day. The other one
we had to adjust 15 times. This one once
it's set, you set it and forget it. And
we even had the dogs get bathed
yesterday. They loved it. They're clean,
too. I wish we had have thought this
through when we first started using an
outside shower. And now, keep in mind
this this this is temporary for us.
We're about to have the building. We're
about to have a house, but this thing is
is so much easier to fill my tub of
water than the other one, which required
constant adjustments. I mean, we're
blessed to have the other. That's
fabulous, too. This just works a little
bit better.
That pretty well, that sums it up. All
right. Thank you, Yappy. So, you heard
it from the boss. She's very happy with
that hot water heater. I'm not sure if
which one she likes better, the hot
water heater or the privacy screen.
Regardless, she's extremely happy with
her shower. And that brings us to the
end of this pop-up edition of Friday's
