Will Witt speaks with Candace Owens, Antonia Okafor and Katie Pavlich at CPAC 2018 to talk about current issues, gun control and the state of the country.
what's up guys this is will wit with
Prager you today we're joined by candice
Owens how are you doing today hey guys
I'm doing really well are you excited to
be here at CPAC I am and I just spoke so
that was pretty cool first time on the
stage yeah and what was your panel about
fake news my favorite topic ever it was
awesome we were just talking about how
the media has been lying and what it
means for the future and personally I
told them I love fake news I think it's
great it helps a conservative movement
grow it helps bring people from
moderates over to the right because they
see what's actually going on in the
media so what do you think about the
whole CNN thing that's been going on
with their fake news and you know
pushing an agenda with gun control and
everything well I think it's pretty
obvious that CNN has absolutely no
interest in telling the truth anymore
which gives us a great opportunity for
us to sort of Reese's or to seize the
media period so I what I said in the
panel saying was that I love fake news
because it wakes people up it's given me
a platform it's given you a platform
we're on social media because when
people are lied to they start to pursue
alternative sources we Turning Point USA
Prager you we are the alternative
sources and so do you think that fake
news media has portrayed the
african-american community in a bad
light or you know according to their
views and principles that they're not
really all like that way oh they're not
all Democrats oh yeah so according to
CNN black people are constantly crying
constantly upset and we constantly have
our hand our hand out asking for favors
and free money and that could not be
further from the truth
it's the reason that I do what I do
every single day is that it's time to
inject a more sincere narrative in terms
what the black community actually is
we're built on humor and we just haven't
gotten a fair shot in the media we are
absolutely not all Democrats in fact
what I say every day is that I proceed a
very real split happening in the black
community victim mentality versus Victor
mentality so as the director of urban
engagement for Turning Point USA how do
you see yourself changing that narrative
just we're doing what I'm doing I'm
constantly on social media pushing out
my videos every single day I just
released one on a black panther review
as we saw black people were celebrating
this movie the leftist the strong
leftist before they even saw the movie
and really largely it's a very
pro-trump message in that movie so III
inject my voice I interpret what it
means and hopefully if they're looking
at the media and they say oh my god I
love this marble superhero movie they
can then apply that logic to their life
to understand what Trump is trying to do
for America which is to secure our
borders to make sure that we're stronger
than we ever were before and not to just
baselessly allow refugees into this
country on no merit and having them
bring their problems with them a direct
quote from that movie is refugees bring
their problems with them if you think
the movie was good though was it good it
was excellent I loved it guys I loved it
yeah okay fair enough I was gonna ask
you you have a new video actually coming
out with preview very soon could you
tell us about that I know you're excited
you're probably the most excited person
for it I'm like the most excited person
because we'll just inform me that it's
coming out right after the Oscars and
the video is entitled dear celebrities
nobody cares what you think
and it's high time that we start
reminding celebrities that they aren't
gods apparently they think that they
have all fallen from the light a
lightning rod of Zeus and they think
they can say whatever they want and
constantly insult us trend that we are
not smart and I mean look at them the
people that are out there telling us
what to think are largely alcoholics I
got into a Twitter spat with Chrissy
Teigen this week right and we've got
Chelsea Handler who sort of thinks I
work right she thinks she's one of the
great philosophers of our time so I was
super excited to shoot it and I'm more
excited for you guys to see what we have
in store that's awesome so what do you
think about the current administration
right now and everything they're doing I
absolutely love them so Mike Pence just
spoke and he said really the strong
message was promises made promises kept
I don't think that we have had anyone in
Washington that has kept more promises
than Donald Trump he's doing everything
and he will absolutely build the wall
there's no doubt um so I think that's
really what it comes down to is despite
what your beliefs are you have to admit
this man has been honest from start to
finish and he is returning America to
its glory making it a stronger country
sending bringing the jobs back home is
the most important thing black
unemployment rate which the black caucus
did not stand up for I would like to do
that right now and applaud that it is
the lowest that it has ever been so
super exciting news won't admit that at
all they won't even talk about it they
pretend black conservatives don't exist
so
well they won't put you on CNN no they
won't I will completely shred them if
they put me on CNN you best believe what
do you think is the most important thing
going forward for the administration to
work on oh that's a great question we
have so many issues that are going on in
this country right now especially
obviously everyone's debating about gun
control right now but I I really think
what he's doing right now the the larger
thing is just to restore hope in to the
community and show people because they
don't even understand how awful things
were under the Obama administration so
what he's doing right now we're turning
money you know back into the American
people's purses and I think he really
should start focusing on our schools our
schools should be the number one issue
for sure they have liberalism is
spreading like a disease we have college
professors that are failing students
that have conservative ideas so if we
don't get back our schools I don't
really see foresee a foreseeable future
for the conservative movement yeah what
do you think is the best way to fix are
you talking about public education or
higher education all of it I feel like
they start brainwashing you in middle
school these days with liberal ideas so
it's it's starts when you're in first
grade as soon as you can talk and walk
and write they're starting to tell you
what to think so it's all of it they're
telling little boys that they're
actually girls because they like the
color pink a little bit right it's
insane like you don't have to you can
wake up one day and be a girl and wake
up the next day and be a boy I read that
that's actually going on
they're almost creating mental disorders
in our school and then they're surprised
when somebody shoots up a University of
college or a high school but what do you
think it is you can't sanction mental
disorders until somebody shows up with a
gun we have to start hitting back hard
especially in our schools so are then
are you a fan of increased background
checks and more emphasis on mental
health
definitely the issue is mental health
it's unbelievable that people are
pretending like guns walk out the
building and shoot somebody like you
have to raise a gun right you know it's
the children you have to raise right and
there's a lot of confusion were
overmedicated in this country I am
strongly against this trend of
medicating your child you see a hyper
kid and he's on 70 milligrams of Ritalin
before he turns seven years old I've
actually seen these children hyper
children I'm chosen are supposed to be
hyper for those you that don't know
children have a lot of energy maybe I'm
not medicating your child before he can
read and write is a great idea a great
starting point so yeah
that's great Candace I want to thank you
for being here today we can find you on
social media what absolutely will wit
I'm so happy to be here with you I love
the alliteration in his name you guys
can find me at real Candace Oh on
Twitter Facebook at real Candace Owens
and Instagram at real Candace Owens and
look forward to her video coming out in
just a little bit this is willow with
Prager you thank you everyone how's it
going everyone this is will wit with
Prager you today we are joined by
Antonia Okafor gun rights activist we're
at CPAC 2018 in Maryland how are you
doing good to see you again too what are
you speaking on at CPAC this year so I'm
not gonna be actually speaking at CPAC
on mainstage several different ways
though I'm gonna have a voice though the
next couple of days a national ads I
mean pushed out where I'm basically
doing what I do best which is basically
support our gun rights gun rights in
general so you'll be seeing that on
Facebook and a national ad probably next
week in the next few days but I'm also
gonna be speaking at the network of
enlightened women's desert party they
have every year for the showcase
gentleman showcase so I'll be doing that
as well yeah that's great so with the
parkland shooting and everything what
are your thoughts on that what do you
think are the next steps concerning if
we need gun control or any next steps
that the current administration can take
to help prevent these disasters yeah I
mean it's been a really hard week the
last week with the parkland shooting in
Florida it's been really interesting
because you know I've been set up to
speak at Florida University a lot of
people for campus carry one me to speak
in general but it's always been a place
that I've had in my heart because
they've never passed campus Harry and
that's one of the big issues but you
know I think I'm very adamant and I'm so
adamant regardless of the tragedies that
happen that it really has to be a
conversation about the law abiding
citizen and empowering the law abiding
citizen if we're not doing that then
we're just doing the same insane
insanity cycle each time where we're
focusing on that perpetrator you know we
have people who are saying now we should
change the the age from 18 to 21 to buy
a rifle I mean that's not that that's
not really what's going to change these
situations what's going to change the
situations
making sure that we don't have any more
gun-free zones that those who are
law-abiding who have concealed carry who
have passed the background checks and
the things that they need in training
they need to defend themselves that they
can also defend you know their
classrooms and we already expect them to
do so anyways why not give them the
tools to do so yeah I think all of the
last almost all of the last mass
shootings occurred in a gun-free zone
just shows how well that those zones
actually do their job it doesn't drop at
all it's all well-intentioned policies
but it's not looking into the future of
criminals are going to be criminals and
they're not gonna follow the law
regardless of the law so let's make sure
those people we want to actually have
firearm that those people who want to
defend us are able to do so so yeah
that's the logic there but unfortunately
a lot of people don't see that logic
yeah that girl from the high school when
she was giving her speech and she was
talking about the no BS or we call BS
have you seen that and she said that gun
when you have more gun control that gun
violence actually goes down but we've
seen that that's actually not the case
like in Chicago right Chicago Baltimore
I stayed in Baltimore with circa news
actually for for three weeks
and wow that's it's a it's a war zone
it's like when I went to Chicago as well
and funding fact about that one is that
they implemented a lot of very
restrictive gun control laws after Sandy
Hook and they actually have worse by the
in fact they had a USA Today just put
out an article saying that Baltimore is
the most dangerous city in the country
why is that is because you put these
restrictions that are really not helping
the person who should be helped in the
first place so yeah it's the opposite
effect but we keep doing this every
single tragedy we keep doing the same
thing and it has to stop yeah we need
more good guys with guns at these
different places or girl yeah so you
actually have a Prager you video though
as well could you tell us a little bit
about that yeah so I have this amazing
video that I'm really glad I was able to
partner with turning-point and they're
free to think program with Prager and
basically telling my story of how I
became I went from a progressive
Democrat voting for Obama and you then
going to who I am today which voted for
Trump more on the libertarian
you know Rand Paul you know type of vibe
there but as a gun rights activist now
too as well so talking about that story
really resonated with a lot of people
and I've been very thankful and grateful
to talk to so many people who reached
out to me since then so I'm I'm still
surprised how many people love that
video it's funny the the main thing I
get from that video is like you know
what Antoni I know you lost a lot of
friends in that video but you tell me
that but I will be your friend yeah I'm
like okay it's okay
I really have friends I do I promise I
have friends that's really sweet
I I'm your friend yeah no you're my
friend so it's goodbye it's funny that
that's nice like it that's a key issue
there is people like oh yeah I'll be
your friend like thank you I appreciate
that you lose a lot of friends where you
make a lot of new ones that are probably
better friends in the long run so you
guys can check out her video on Praeger
you calm on facebook and youtube it's a
really good video definitely check it
out I want to thank you for talking with
me you have a good time I did I did
thank you so much so he was supposed to
ask me about my guns and say hey and 20
was the gun-free zone so he didn't ask
me I was gonna I thought this was a
gun-free zone it was good I should have
done it before I got nervous this is
will wit and Antonio Okafor for Prager
you thank you hello everyone this is
will wit with Prager you today we're
joined by Katie Pavlich editor at
townhall and Fox News contributor are
you doing today doing really well are
you um well are you enjoying CPEC so far
yeah I'm sure you're not enjoying the
weather as much coming from California
but we're happy you're here thank you
thank you see you are based in DC I am
based in DC yeah Arizona Arizona girl at
heart so really okay my whole family's
from Arizona that's cool yeah and you're
gonna be moderating a panel right yeah
so we're Monterey I'm moderating a panel
today called Kim Kim Jang University and
we're gonna talk about how universities
around the country which you guys are
really familiar with have essentially
become region camps on a variety of
issues and the point is that it's not
just about political points of us on
campus it's about promoting freedom
making sure that students are armed with
the knowledge they need to know that
they have rights outside of what their
professors are telling them yeah Kim
jong-eun University not as good as
Prager University and you actually have
a pretty video I do you guys graciously
invited me to come out and do a video on
women and firearms ownership so we
produced that I think late last year and
it was it was great I think there are a
lot of people I got some notes from
different women who were skeptical about
firearms and parents who were also
skeptical who really enjoyed listening
to it and had changed her mind so that's
what Prager you is all about yeah that's
great you know getting out to young
people and getting it to so many
different people all across the world
now so we just said a billion views it's
great the scope of Prager U is amazing I
remember I was at Dennis Prager at an
event I think two years ago and he was
just amazed at how he had a viewer of
pregger you in Latvia and that's the
extent of the internet right so Prager
used being watched all around the world
especially in countries if they have
access to YouTube where they can learn
about the freedoms that we have and how
special America really is and you have
people in America who don't like living
here who hate America and I guess that's
what you'll be talking about with you
know students being taught to hate
America right well they don't get out
much I mean if you travel the world a
little bit I love had the left claims to
be so worldly and if you actually talk
to a lot of these students they haven't
really been out in the real world in
America first of all but second of all
haven't actually traveled to the world
to these countries on an experienced
real life under these brutal
dictatorships that they claim to uphold
yeah you know love communism until they
actually experienced it Cuba don't just
stay in the resort go out into the real
community and see how it goes yeah on
the subject of gun control you know with
the shooting and everything what are
your what do you think are the next
steps to take to ensure that something
like this doesn't happen again
well I think you know for years and
years and years we have talked about
gun-free zones and we have never solved
the problem that gun-free zones created
gun-free zones are not gun free
criminals always exploit victims in
those places and for too long we've had
students and teachers and staff members
as sitting ducks in a place that
criminals and bad people evil people
know they won't be able to fight back so
there's a lot of talk about gun control
the usual suspects have been pushing
that narrative
it's not about the guns it's about soft
targets in America and schools are some
of the softest targets that we have and
it's time to fight back and we've heard
a whole lot about how you know students
and parents don't want to live in a
world where there has to be an armed
guard outside their school but you can
either live in the real world which is
there has to be an armed guard outside
of the school or you can live in a world
that you wish you lived in and suffer
the consequences which is seeing these
things happen over and over again so I'm
hoping that we can take security
seriously because that's really the
issue here okay what do you think about
the leftist media biases going on now
around gun control and what they're
pushing on their agenda yeah I mean I
would say it was typical because it is
typical but it seems as though under a
trump administration it's even more
aggressive than we've seen in the past
CNN yesterday held this town hall where
they claimed different points of views
were going to be heard it seemed to me
like the audience was pretty packed full
of anti Second Amendment anti rights
anti-gun folks and over and over again
we've seen the media promote this
anti-gun anti NRA narrative and they
don't point out the fact that the NRA is
made up of millions of real people it
isn't this big behemoth of it's not like
Oz where there's a guy one guy behind
the curtain pulling all the strings it's
real people who believe that their
second Amendment rights really back up
all the rest of the men's amendments
that we have in the bill of rights and
so them just writing off a whole set of
people and kind of enunciated this
message that if you're part of the NRA
you're somehow advocating for school
shootings it's just absolutely
ridiculous and it doesn't get us
anywhere when it comes to actually
preventing this in the future yeah it
definitely doesn't well you can check
out her video on Prager ucomm on
Facebook and on YouTube if you haven't
seen it it's one of my favorite videos
definitely go check it out check me out
check me out check the mustache up do
you like the mustache we'll take that as
a yes
I'll take that as a yes I'd like to
thank you for joining us thank you for
talking this is will whit Prager you
thank you
