Changeable Lizards are common in tropical and subtropical regions and prefer to live in grass and bushes. They are masters of camouflage and can change colour to blend into their surroundings. Avoid the risk of being hunted.

The Changeable Lizard's head and back has a row of spines that look like a cockscomb and a bit like a horse's mane. Some Chinese people call them cockscomb snakes, while others call them horse's mane snakes.

Changeable Lizard has a tail that is three times longer than its head and body combined. It is rarely shown in its entirety when photographing it because it is difficult to get an ideal composition.

They usually are light brown with darker patches on their bodies. There are black radiating lines around the eyes. During courtship, males abandon their usual low-key state and turn their heads bright red to attract the attention of the opposite sex. Of course, this state puts them in danger of being hunted.
