ICAST 2021 - Lightest Fishing Kayak Made(Apex Watercraft Tyr) I got to test drive an amazing kayak at day 1 of iCast. The Apex Watercraft's Tyr Fishing Kayak. An amazing feat of engineering but will probably be out of most peoples kayak budget. All the same it was an impressive machine and was a ton of fun to play with. This is a 40 pound kayak. So there's 37 brands out there making roto-molded plastic fishing
kayaks. There's one making a super lightweight carbon fiber fishing kayak. This is basically
what you're looking at is a racing stand-up paddleboard haul. Super clean flat haul.
No scupper holes. Scupper holes, you know what they are? Water breaks. So without the scupper
holes it makes a much more efficient haul. And this haul is also super maneuverable and really
on top of the water. You lock it in either with a torquedo on the back or we've got these shaped
fins that we use that are just peel and stick that go on the bottom that are pretty sweet.
You'll see it's got a piercing bow on the front. So instead of a lifting bow it's got a piercing
bow. So it pierces through the waves. Either the waves fall off the side before it gets in,
but if you go through a wave the water goes straight out the back. So really good for
open water. It resurfaces and cleans the water out real quick. You've got what I call the dashboard
up here. It's a hat that closes the magnets. And if you look at that boat over there you
flush mount your electronics right in the dash. All your wires you shoot through the
haul with your transducer inside. All the wires are contained. Of course if you look
carbon fiber bucket seat. Rod holders right along the side. The rods are in the other boat,
I have to show you. But anyway, basically you just press them on the side. So instead of having rods
stand up and in the way, rods just lay straight behind you and they match the curve of the boat.
So it's a really fast boat. A lot of fun with the torquedo on it. Either you get about twice
the distance that you would in a plastic boat out of one charge or you go about twice as fast.
Got a magnet right there. That's awesome.
That's cool. That's awesome man. And then you can see how the rod holders work.
So you just literally just take, just go like this and press and drop. Okay. So and they stay
right in like that. You know it doesn't wobble, doesn't make noise. They lay really nice up front
also. And notice that the angle, this angle, you know, pretty much mimics the angle of the rod.
So you know, you can do, you know, five across.
I love the way that seat pivots like that. That's cool. Try to just
spin around. Pretend you've got tackle behind you. Spin around in the seat.
Get your shit out of the back. Yeah, now get into your tackle box. You don't have to worry
There you go. Sweet. Nice. That dampens the sound when you drop paddles or rods on it.
And he hits the brakes. Oh my God. Easy on the reverse. There you go.
Sean is now pivoting in the chair. He's digging the pivot.
Mr. Lawless, he's up backwards on there. He's figuring it out.
That's cool, man.
Sean is now checking it out. He's in stand mode, pivoted mode.
He's like a rocket.
This is a carbon fiber.
It's strong and light. The boat itself is only 40 pounds.
Sean's trying out the Air Jackson Apex, man.
It's crazy, right? Yeah.
Really stable. It's the swivel seats epic.
That's awesome, man. It is, right?
God, I can't believe how light that is.
That'd be cool to troll offshore with. Oh, you could fly.
