Block by Block: Carving Terrain from XPS Foam

Tools, fumes, mistakes, progress!

In this episode, I take you through the process of building terrain on my layout—block by block—using cut foam and a bit of controlled chaos. My approach isn’t traditional, but it’s fast, flexible, and maybe a little hazardous.

You’ll see how I use XPS foam bricks to shape landforms, carve them down with a hot wire cutter, and avoid the dangers that come with melting plastic fumes. Along the way, I’ll share lessons learned, a few unexpected turns, and a safety PSA you probably didn’t expect in a modelling video.
