Growing our own food, raising chickens for meat and eggs are our main goal at the farm. We've been dealing with problems when it comes to our uncontrolled chickens and not getting enough eggs. We decided to get bigger laying egg chickens for eggs and hopefully for meat. Giving a good house for them is one of the first steps we need to do. Hope our plan will work for us.

house looks like they're getting the
peins up
today we bought um ganized iron for the
roof the other day so but maybe they've
been held up a bit with the rain but
this is starting to take shape this is
our uh it's going to be chicken house
here and this
corner uh that'll be a a walkway covered
walkway there and this half will be the
chicken run all the way down there the
and then the roof will come over to this
building
here and
uh we'll have a cover over the whole
thing we're still going to get this
water we need to manage the rain coming
down here to get rid of that
somehow drain or something there that's
made good progress as well while we've
been
gone it'll be exciting to see this to
get this finished
um and give our chickens a new
house so the guys are keeping going with
the build of our chicken house at the
moment we're doing the uh Hollow block
here um underneath so that things can't
get
under and keep the chickens in and then
putting using bamboo around the edge we
got the roof on guys will probably do
that today and then we're going to
extend the fence around the thing there
I'll be back tomorrow to finish we'll
get the door on hopefully we can get the
chickens in by the weekend going to be a
good thing take care of them behind me
here is uh our new chicken house it's
not quite finished
yet we uh we need to finish these
shelves got chicken wire up the top all
this has been done in bamboo on the
sides the roosters have already tried to
take over their new house that's their
old house there but I think we're going
to put these ones down in the a
different chicken house down the back
and this will be for good Birds roed o
and red or whatever they are oh he's
just come down um so we want to get the
decent size eggs and so this is the
house when we're going to really look
after these chickens and they're quite
expensive to buy Here ride all on red SS
ones

today we've got our chicken house
ready for the dog to live
in and
uh just put some saw dust down on the
ground on the
concrete and then here we put some grass
in here now this is at the moment we've
just enclosed this with a bit of mesh
and uh because we've only got the two
chickens so far what we're going to do
is rehouse these ones somewhere else and
this Coupe will have all of that run
down there but
for now we're just going to keep in here
they've been in a tiny cage for oh gee
months now isn't it darling so I hope
they don't freak out in their new Abode
but let's go
see so here's our two chickens we've had
these chickens now for oh it's got to be
a good 3 months four months I think four
months oh poor things they've been in a
small cage cuz we haven't had a place to
put them and this is their first time in
a well it's a huge cage for two
chickens but we're going to buy some
more we just wanted to get this one
working
first and so they've just
discovered I think the white ants that
were in this we've had this sawdust
there for ages and it's full of white
ants I think they've just discovered
them and look at them there they're
going crazy on the white ants so that's
good cuz we we don't want the white ants
we want to kill them they want better
way than to feed our chickens
these guys were going to be in
here they're they were in our our first
test of a chicken house which turned
into a bit of a disaster but we did get
eggs so um this one's going to be
scrapped but for now they're still
living there and they have been blowing
eggs in here but they've just come back
after roaming around for a day and
they've discovered now they can't get in
here
I think only one was laying eggs one or
two black one one two of them the two
eggs were laying two chickens were lying
eggs in here cuz what we want to do is
make another house for the we decided
that the native chickens I'll go down
the other area and this would be our
home chickens here which will be the uh
what do we call them red Island red and
whatever this other one is so we want to
get more of these
guys they'll make better meat chickens
and probably better eggs I think think
bigger
eggs so there might be a bit of a
jealousy here I think tonight yeah
they're jealous they look at they're
looking what where did they come
from eventually as I said we'll we're
going to put the cage all the way down
to there and have that open and they
we'll have them working for us so this
is the first stage and we just decided
we were going to put these guys in there
and then we thought no this is the one
that's close to the house for our eggs
and so um the native chickens we're
going to put down there we're going to
rebuild those chicken houses down there
so they'll get a new house but it won't
be for it'll be probably a couple of
months away
maybe so anyway this is our I
guess first decent Chicken House we've
got and um going to see how these guys
go hey darling yes so these ones
are our second group of pet
chickens these are the ones that were
going to get that house but now we've
changed their minds they had the old
house the original
experiment and we've just we haven't
even locked a door on them so we don't
really have any Predators we get the odd
snake but the last one was ages ago that
we had any problems
with um so these ones just pretty much
keep up in this area you they seem
perfectly happy here and they're laying
eggs all around the place too another
two apparently under the Nipper Hut the
only trouble is that they jump up in the
Nipper Hut and everywhere which
isn't the best hey big
[Laughter]
fella hello so three of
you three of you don't want to come out
yet here's Mama she's the first one
she's looking
good and big daddy rooster we had those
ones for 3 or 4 months and they're in a
tiny cage I finally got this this cage
built and they're just loving it aren't
you you're giving us some
eggs
yeah you giving us some
eggs and then there's the two bigger
ones two of the five that we had that um
Misty didn't
eat or play with whatever she's
done uh then
there's another
12 and then the last lot is eight now
five of them are in here running around
that little whitish looking one there
one I think maybe this
fell and there's still three in here
that are still too shy to come out
I'm sure give them a little while
they'll
be we got any eggs we might have already
check today only is one a day from this
girl but uh it' be great so we got 24
now good when they grow up and we should
have good egg production
