Today we're in the shores of Lake Washington at this artfully designed retreat inspired
by Northwest architecture with an amazing use of natural materials.
The wonderful outdoor entertaining spaces lead right to the lake where you have a private
dock and look directly at the city of Seattle.
Enjoy west facing views, Seattle sunsets and everything that is beautiful about the Northwest.
One of the things that's very exciting about this house was the desire, and this comes
back to this notion of serenity, is natural materials.
We're using a modern form, but we're cladding it in natural materials.
You tie that into, for instance, the columns on the exterior of the home.
These are real solid timbers, so you go out there as you come in the entry and you tap
one.
They're not hollow.
They're solid.
Fireplace is another example of an interesting feature.
It is site built.
It is something that we designed.
It's very unique.
It has a glass panel in the back, so you're actually seeing through the fireplace, through
the glass panel, out to the water.
What's wonderful about it is the way the light is captured and brought in.
It's always naturally light in this house.
The materials of the building were chosen primarily because they were warm.
The floors are jacoba, which is a Brazilian cherry, the cedar on the exterior.
Anyone looks closely at the detailing of just the siding on the main house, how it wraps
the corner.
Very unique detail, very difficult to achieve, very high level of craftsmanship to make that
happen.
Interestingly enough, when you get into the kitchen and you look at the marble countertops,
it reminded them of the forest, roots in the forest, the rainforest, and how the veins
spread out.
When you look at that master bedroom and what it does with that roof popping up, what it
allows us to do is bring windows in high and use that roof overhang to capture reflected
light and it bounces it down that ceiling plane and deep, all the way back in the bedroom.
We designed the pavilion building across the street.
Walking into that space, it's intended to be more active and you can see that in the
choice of the materials and the colors.
Located just west of Market in downtown Kirkland, this home has an ideal location for walking
and enjoying shopping and brunch with friends on the weekend, but also for a short commute.
You're just a couple minutes to 520 with easy access to Seattle, Bellevue, or Redmond.
Enjoy all that Waterfront Living has to offer from this wonderful Northwest modern home.
