Designed by Carlos Zwick Architekten BDA, House by the Lake in Potsdam transforms a long-abandoned lakeside site into a modern residence that carefully integrates with its natural surroundings. Elevated on slender steel stilts to preserve the terrain and existing vegetation, the house minimizes its footprint while maximizing views toward the water. Its layout separates communal and private spaces into two volumes connected by a central core, offering both flexibility and functionality for a large family. With expansive glass openings, a continuous lakeside loggia, and even a mature tree incorporated into the interior, the design emphasizes a seamless relationship between architecture and nature, prioritizing restraint, adaptability, and a deep respect for the site.
