Tomaso Albinoni can be called the quiet master of Italian baroque music. The qualities of Albinoni's music are elegance, stability and order - and a sense of pure, elemental joy. It is music of Venice through and through, where in the meltingly beautiful slow movements you can almost see the morning light playing on the waters of the lagoon, or feel the quiet awe and majesty of the dim interior of one of the city's churches.
In Italy in particular, string instruments, and the violin in particular, occupied a key position in Baroque music. Like many of his contemporaries, Tomaso Albinoni composed a large number of pieces for string ensemble and many violin concertos.
With his concertos for one and two oboes, Albinoni more or less introduced a new genre. He did not copy Vivaldi's violin concerto form, but drew on his vast experience as an opera composer for both form and style.
Please enjoy this most entertaining and elegant baroque music.
