This bow, created on April 10th 1764 by the jeweller Pfisterer, sparkled with a scattering of diamonds and spinels, rare gemstones in hues of red and pink. Complementing this masterpiece were the Girondole Earrings, dated May 27th of the same year, their candelabra-like design cascading gracefully. The jeweller's artful use of foil backing enhanced the brilliance of these gems, making them appear more vibrant than their natural softer tones. Due to their substantial weight, the earrings required additional support. A gold wire looped over the ears to distribute their heft. Maria Pavlovna recounted that during her wedding banquet she found them so uncomfortable that she removed them and hung them on the edge of her water glass, much to Emperor Nicholas II's amusement. Another story goes that it was part of the Mughal treasury, taken by Persian ruler Nader Shah during his 1739 invasion of Delhi and later stolen after his assassination. In the 1770s, Count Grigory Grigoryevich Orlov acquired the diamond and presented it to Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, possibly to rekindle their romance. Catherine had the gem mounted in the Imperial Scepter in 1774, where it remains today as part of Russia's Diamond Fund, housed in Moscow's Kremlin Armoury.
