I Built The Largest Longbow!

this is considered a short bow at 48 in and this is considered a long bow at 72 in and today we're going to find out if we can make a bow out of this massive piece of wood I don't know if it'll work but let's find out I think I'm just curious what will happen I've thought about it for a long time what will happen if I try to make the biggest bow I possibly can my hope is that I'll be able to draw this back really really far and and maybe even need to mount the bow somewhere maybe turn it sideways like a catapult or something but first we got to get this shooting now that the layout's done we move on to removing material I need to put wheels on all my towels it's too long of a p I hit the wall so I got to cut [Applause] it this is actually ridiculous I don't know like what I think I'd like a more rigid handle it's so long it's going to be bending through this thin board so let's add a 10-in piece of material on here this will keep it from being a Bend through handle okay that should be good I'll let that sit overnight and start back up on it tomorrow this is ridiculous this feels so I don't say it enough but thank you so much for watching it's so want to do weird projects like this and share it with you guys I was going to say that YouTube allows me to do all this weird stuff but before I was doing YouTube I was kind of already doing all of the stuff but it gives me some good justification to spend more time on it so thanks guys so it's been 8 hours and I I got the opportunity to come back to the workshop so I really want to finish this today so that tomorrow we can play with it I don't know how long it'll take but let's just put a little bit more work on it the only concern is that the wood glue will not handle stress most yellow wood glue say 1 hour of clamping pressure and then 24 hours before putting it under stress we're not going to put them under much stress so hopefully the glue will hold if the handle pops off I'll just reglue it and we'll wait tomorrow to finish it now it doesn't look too long until I hit the ceiling with it I don't even know if I can get it in the frame I can't wait oh my goodness I could oh man [Applause] [Music] [Music] now we've got a rough shape of the bow so let's make it Bend properly to do this we need a build a string first I went to put the bow string on and realized I don't have bow string grooves for the bow string to go into [Music] [Applause] oh goodness okay let's string it going to use the good old trusty leg method today um I did make a mistake and I had to make two bow strings I don't know if this one will fit the other one was way too short I think this is too short too so I'm remaking the bow string for the third time it would be better to build a j It's Too Tall still I think it's close I'm just too short so I'm going to get up on the workbench we need to build a jig for this it actually looks like it's bending all right it's just too short of a bow string okay thought it was going to fit you to I had to totally guess with the measurements on a ridiculous bow like this and my guesses were off off by like a few inches for certain yeah now there's a 10 foot bow for you this is awesome but the tiller's off this lmb's bending More Than This Lim so we're going to remove some over here okay now let's tiller it I'll put a finish on it and and then and then and then let's explore and shoot with it good morning so I went ahead and finished tillering this bow but we want to make it look better and we want to put a stain on it before shooting it uh sorry I'm a little tired I'll I'll get there coming in today putting this on the tillan tree and seeing the difference but how big it is compared to the largest other bow I have is crazy now it's bending really good but before we shoot it let's finish it I want to make it look different than this would [Music] [Music] we got the bow we got some ventilation and when you see me next you'll be seeing the bow so here's the bow a stallion amongst snakes oh what is that you want to go shoot bows this weekend yeah let me grab mine all right guys let's [Laughter] go oh man um that was my first shot subscribe if you want to uh see this go to the limits see you later and thanks for watching
