ladies and gentlemen welcome to learn Chinese now hello learn Chinese now I am Ben Hedges I'm joining in the studio today with Jared Madson my co-host how you doing Jared good man how's it going it's pretty good and well because of popular demand uh we have decided to do another one of those uh celebrities speaking Chinese videos and we we covered a lot of the celebrities have spoke a bit of Chinese in movies and on TV shows uh in the in the previous video but I have visited the depths of the internet to uh find for you a few more okay so I'll introduce the tier list uh for you here are the different categories we have we have train wreck which is just people who just totally butchered their Chinese lines and whatever movie they were in uh then we've got sound like you practiced a little bit which uh basically you know is what it says on a tin right then we have a good but don't quit your day job getting better you know quit your J job as an actor as an actor right okay sure and then we have got Rosetta scone for Christmas I guess by that I mean they've actually you know they've actually put a little effort in yeah they asked for a Christmas present took some classes something like some classes and then we got crushed it for these guys doesn't necessarily mean they spoke fluently but they just did a good job considering uh the circumstances so uh I'm going to play you the first I haven't seen any of these you haven't no you haven't I have I okay yeah these are totally new so I'm going to play the first clip this first one actually it's not it's not a scene in a movie but it's an actress who is learning Chinese and she's demonstrating her Chinese on a TV show all [Music] right said what do you think I should I should say and they said to what does that mean take your pants off to uh pass gas yeah yeah right and it's actually a kind saying know yeah I didn't I didn't I I had to look it up but yeah yeah yeah no to do something that's uh unnecessary to do you don't need to take your pants off to fart is basically the Civilized expression that she's she she explains it so she knew the meaning and she Gordon Ramsey was on the show with her and she turns to him and she said yeah it's as if like if you put too many herbs in your in a dish I could say to a fun PE you know like doing something extra that wasn't needed that's like the worst expression okay but this is her kids were learning and she asked her kids oh what's a Chinese expression I should demonstr that's that's what they suggested yeah so I guess they thought that was funny or something a I wonder why they would think that's funny that's crazy little kids toilet humor so but what do you think of the accent well I understood it yeah the tones were all right I maybe the accent was a little funky but the it should be it should be to that's just the first word I I heard t or to I thought maybe she was going to say something else but then when I heard that was that was pretty clear so yeah all right I have another little little clip of her ah sure not bad I mean it was quite like she definitely an actress she put a little extra extra something on that that was good that's what I mean yeah it was quite sort of like but then some of the words were a little bit not not correct she was like Junior mun I mean that would be like I wonder if it was a Google translate of something maybe it should have been uh I was just more entertained by the performance of the lines uh but you know I mean it was fun it was good I liked it so what do you think we should rate her as cuz you know we might have to change it later as we hear the others because it's relative but what do you think you'd go for straight away no I mean that was it's got to be at least Rosetta Stone you think it's Rosetta Stone I think that she okay learn I don't think think it's not train wreck m i i I'm kind of thinking it here yeah maybe right good don't quit your day job but then we could we could maybe put it there but if the other guys are really bad we could move her up sure let's put it there all right there she goes so that's Rosman Pike she's a Hollywood actress British Hollywood actress all right let's uh let's move on to the next one [Music] hey that was it that was Chinese right that was a sub I guess yeah there was okay that was kind of a joke because obviously he was just saying hey but um okay so it's it's uh it's Tom Heston who plays lowkey and a load of other uh you know characters and he's in this ad in China where he speaks like one word of or one line of Chinese well if you count a maybe it's two lines but let's uh pretty good A by the way that was I like it all right let's watch the next pepper on top right oh hi shant uh okay what do you think that's it that's all I've got it that's all that's it that's the whole yeah I see so the ad he speaks he just like I made your breakfast oh I see I see came back and made your breakfast oh I a CH oh okay uh yeah I mean he obviously doesn't speak Chinese no no obviously not so you know he's going to be at one of the lower I'm thinking maybe sounds like you practiced a little perhaps I guess I really like him as an actor so I want it to be yeah me too to be higher up but I think sounds like you practiced a little is I don't think you can rank him above that no no definitely not I I I think the tone though was correct he because High that's true that's true it was very deliberate with the T so yeah let's do that I think that's I think that's fair okay so Loki has practiced a little Loki knows some training it's cool let's see who's [Music] next it sounds like even the Chinese guy didn't really speak Chinese and you know that the the Chinese actor I think was is a cantes guy right so he's probably doing Mandarin not he's doing Mandarin it's not not really his his Forte so that was obviously Kiana Reeves we've got lots of this so there's a few more because he actually does a lot he does quite a few lines in chinesey what you what do you think I mean I love keano Reeves so I can't say say anything bad about him uh he put in some effort he did yeah the the but it sounds kind of robotic I would say yeah yeah little robotic right I think I've got one more so okay so actually the the tones aren't bad uh and technically he broke it up at the right spots right like he's not doing two characters that are supposed to go go together he's not splitting it there yeah so it's one of these things like technically he got a lot of stuff right but it sounds like he doesn't actually understand what he's saying well yeah like you can hear that yeah it's like when an AI talks and you're like this thing does you know I I don't know oh I've got some more though cuz actually okay he speaks a little bit of cantones too and maybe maybe he does better in Cantonese let's have a look I don't speak but that was awesome it's insult it's it's yeah it's an insult I mean they translate as prick but it doesn't really mean that it's like um pock guys like go roll on the street and die and then gong is like your all your family's wealth will disappear or something like that I can't I can't remember 100% but it's it's it's along those lines but I love how he just repeats it like joh Yan says it and then he's like yeah what he says and actually I think the Cantonese sounded a little bit better than his Mandarin it did it did didn't it yeah yeah all right well what what do you think um I mean those were full sentences they were well I don't know I think she sounded more natural she did she did yeah yeah so maybe we move her up I mean with Loki we only had him say one couple of words so it wasn't really enough that's true it's hard it's hard to judge I don't know I'd almost say move her up and put Keo Reeves at good but don't quit your day job all right let's do that let's do that okay so there we go there she is and keano yeah let's try that there we are everyone's nice in the middle next one let's have a look who we [Music] got it was like it was like half like half Chinese words half just kind of I I I think it's funny how he goes it's something like right mon MSG don't give me MSG and then the guy the Chinese actor who's playing it with him kind of plays off it and he's like waiting as in a scarf right and then he's like or something it it sounds like he's trying to speak Mandarin in a canney's way yeah right like that's cuz I mean I don't I don't speak K but like your impression of it is there's a lot all of that Mandarin doesn't really have that yeah at one point he's kind of like ching chong shaa something CH Chong small lobster right he's naming the dishes that he wants I'm like I I think wait wait oh okay so I mean he needs High marks just for entertainment value that that was he'd be really put himself in the feel of it but I think he's got to be train wrecked what do you think or do you think sounds like you practiced a little I mean he did say some actual words in there so yeah it's hard to it's hard to put him too high cuz some of it was just kind of gibberish yeah it's probably probably train wreck sorry cuz the scene was Bradley Cooper Bradley Cooper yeah it's a great scene and actually in that movie he speaks lots of different languages so there's one point where he speaks Italian uh and then he later speaks Chinese and the same woman is dining with him and she's like always really impressed by other languages speaks yeah all right let's uh let's keep [Music] going okay it's a movie called arrival and this is Amy forgot her last name Amy Adams Amy Adams yeah Amy Adams and she's talking to this Chinese General I've got another little clip of it [Music] doing I think it was the the music had it made it a little hard to hear I think it was pretty good yeah if it didn't have such dramatic music and the the banging on the doors it would have been easier to hear I thought it wasn't half bad what did you think I it was okay some some of the words were wrong like she said she didn't say P She said p uh uh yeah Pia P yeah just kind of a madeup sound a little bit yeah it should have been KRA like rely on um but but some of it came out okay so I I don't know what do you think I I don't think I don't think she's as good as um rosan Pike really no so I don't know whether you want to put her with keano or you want to put her with it's somewhere in there yeah you can decide oh why why ah if if any of these actors are watching I think you're all great and amazing this has nothing to do with the wow I I would probably say yeah maybe maybe up with don't don't quit your day job okay let's yeah let's put it with that's kind of what I was thinking to Amy we loved you in Enchanted anyway all right this one's funny so this is um Eric bner [Music] Clark speaks fluent chinesee really you speak Cantonese or Mandarin oh well played Ira Mandarin all right so well we haven't got into got to the Chinese yet but you're going to hear it so he speaks Mandarin 100 I mean it's it's a little shame they kind of got the tones wrong on the key part the key part yeah the the yeah the the the the boo where it's supposed to be boooy instead they did the opposite way around didn't they was boo ya well and also too that's that's such a a common thing that people say right yeah and so so it sounds really obvious when it's very obvious yeah yeah so and and then at the beginning I don't actually know what he said I don't let's just watch it one more time cuz I I I can't really make out see if you can make out at the beginning I don't know what that means it sounds like gibberish but maybe he is saying something I don't know that's rough if that's not train wreck I think it should be train wreck right I think it's got I don't even have any idea what's going on yeah yeah it's definitely train wreck all right couldn't couldn't understand the question and the the the tones were wrong on a very common expression they were yeah that really gets a that really gets a down vote doesn't it all right do we want to do we want to alter any or do we think that this is a good yeah unfortunately no one really crushed it did they I mean it feels like we need to yeah I don't I don't think anyone really crushed it I think I think we had a few good ones in the previous video that we could have put in crushed it sure but um this time I think uh yeah good effort anyone anyone who dares to speak Chinese especially in front of other people who didn't grow up speaking Chinese that's uh that's already a great accomplishment in my opinion yeah yeah it's a hard language so it's awesome that they that they did that and and I guess for most people who don't speak Chinese they cannot tell that uh that they can't speak it right You' never know if you didn't speak if you didn't right right right sure yeah which one was your favorite my my favorite was probably Bradley Cooper yeah that was so much passion then so much in it I like K re's cantones yes cantes was good that's like that's like a close second yeah yeah that was cool too yeah all right well uh I think that's pretty much it for um you know talking about these celebrities but Jared why not you why don't you tell everyone about uh your tour and where you could potentially see Jared speaking Chinese on stage uh with shenin Performing Arts yeah shenin Performing Arts we are we have eight troops performing all over the world uh everywhere around North America in Europe in Asia uh there's definitely a city near you so come on out we have digital backdrop that will take you to different dynasties in China you can fly up to the heavens and and go down into battles and and see different ethnic dances and all kinds of stuff so it's really you it's like going to a Chinese restaurant you get all this different food you go here and you get to see experience lots of different stories from Chinese culture oh that's awesome well I've book to
