【Classical music and nature 古典音樂小站】Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto And Orchestras N.1 - in B flat minor Op.23 - I. Allegro. This beautiful piece was preserved by European Archive. It has Creative Commons license (Public Domain Mark 1.0 Universal) and is provided through www.musopen.org.

Tchaikovsky revised the concerto three times, the last in 1888, which is the version usually played. One of the most striking differences between the original and final versions is that in the opening section, the chords played by the pianist over which the orchestra plays the main theme were originally written as arpeggios. Tchaikovsky also arranged the work for two pianos in December 1874; this edition was revised in 1888.

On a different topic: Did you know that "Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 plays an important role in a classical music anime series?

If you want to give your anime loving children an easy introduction to classical music, there is an anime series called Nodame Cantabile:

"Shinichi Chiaki is a first-class musician whose dream is to play among the elite in Europe. Coming from a distinguished family, he is a notorious perfectionist - he is highly critical not only of himself but also of others. The only thing stopping Shinichi from travelling to Europe is his fear of flying. As a result, he's grounded in Japan. During his fourth year at Japan's top music university, Shinichi meets Megumi Noda, or Nodame as she calls herself. On the surface, she appears to be an unkempt girl with no direction in life. But when Shinichi hears Nodame play the piano for the first time, he is awed by the kind of music she creates. However, Shinichi is dismayed to discover that Nodame is his neighbour, and worse still, she ends up falling head over heels in love with him."

Classical music plays an important role in the anime. So it is educational, entertaining and fun to watch at the same time.

When my husband saw the colour graded version of the footage in this video, he said: "The colours are like a Ghibli film". It was his word that reminded me of the anime we used to watch with our children years ago.

It is true, when you look at Ghibli's film colours, they seem out of this world. This video was shot in Switzerland, and yes, we have beautiful scenery here, but the colour grading by our editor made a huge difference between just another "moving clouds" video and a breathtaking Ghibli film.

This scenery was filmed in the Berne highlands by Simone Schlegel and edited by Wenjing Ma.
