Composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote about the symphonic suite Scheherazade, among other things:

‘They marked the end of a period in my work at the end of which my instrumentation had achieved a high degree of virtuosity and warmth of sound without Wagnerian influence.’ (From his autobiography) (Source: Music in History and Present, Volume 11, page 530)

Here we hear the last piece from the work, which is based on the famous stories of Princess Scheherazade from ‘One Thousand and One Nights’.
