5 Whiskeys You SHOULDN'T Buy!

Yeah, because either a value, you know backstory, uh-huh Aka non-transparency. Yeah, or shitty whiskey in our opinion some of them all three at the same time Yeah, listen, those are not mutually exclusive You know and what you'll find is a lot of them are value and I feel like it's not That's a good one to go first bottle one family one line one Oh this bottles at least this whiskey is a month old. I believe yeah a month You didn't hear me a month one now Cleveland tried this neat trick where they thought science exists They tried to get fancy. Yeah, and science isn't they tried to cheat Papa time and you can't you just can't They take some nice big old steel drums. Yes, they put their one month distillate in there. Yes, throw some chartered oak in there Pressurize the shit out of it and see what happens and then you get prop whiskey now Yeah, now it is probably we've drank about this much of this bottle and then we've used this much of this bottle Yeah, so great. The thing is the experiment isn't a bad idea, right the idea of trying to Hurry things or move things along This idea of like let's make good whiskey in a year instead of 12 years. That's cool. It's really cool Maybe someday happens now. This bottle is $50 for us. This is the black reserve The problem comes in you shot your shot the problem Unfortunately when it just doesn't work sometime. Yeah, so don't sell it for a little man What if your whiskey is two years old and then you try your process? Yeah, not don't go and one month old for $50 Let's make our white dog tastes like shit. It's what they know It'd be interesting to taste the white dog actually because I wonder if the white dog like actually like this is good Maybe you should just actually age it. Yeah, just give it some time Number two now, this is a full-blown product line. No, it's not it There's a bottle of whiskey that cost $60, there's a wild distinction there Those statements are slightly different Technically those statements are made $60 for that such high hopes not knowing that regular basil Hayden is nine years old This was a soul crusher. I got straight bamboozled on this Yeah, listen, they're all 80 proof. So that all probably our biggest grape with it and they're all overpriced You can go get an upgrade 100 for I don't even know where it's at the the old grab that blue label at the front of the table right there You get this for $22 and it's a similar proof and it's drastically better So just we stay away from this because there's drastically better value on the market even for people getting into whiskey Yeah intro whiskey. It's also not the best one. No, especially for the price. Steal people away as much as possible Yeah, we're not a fan. All right, I might get some hate for these ones. I Think these are among the worst about this video is turning into the worst values in whiskey I don't hate the idea though. I don't do that. This idea of experimentation is a great idea Yeah, I love the idea of experimentation. So that Jefferson's ocean line, they take their barrels. They put them on ships They let them go around the world and it apparently the sloshing you get more contact of the whiskey with the wood That part is a factual thing, right? Yeah The the more contact because normal normally if a barrel sits only X percent Which is a very small percent in a 53 gallon barrel is actually touching the wood at any given time when you're on a boat Obviously the whiskey is gonna move because this is how physics work. I could explain it, but I don't have time You're stupid. Oh, that one's good. This one's the cast. There's $120 bottle of whiskey. We sourced. I think it's contract distilled now I don't know that it's sourced. I think it's contract distilled. Nobody knows where it comes from Let's put it that way, but we kind of enjoy the whiskey in there We we actually didn't hate it when we reviewed it, I remember that that's true, but now the price tag perspective Yeah, not the same anymore. Um, I got this because they marked it as a normal Jefferson's ocean So I got it for 80 and that's the barrel proof when I pay $80 for another barrel proof Jefferson's ocean No, definitely not I don't know and I don't think that these should be anywhere near 80 the normal ones They're 90 proof and I don't listen. It's just so expensive. I'm not a proof now I love a 1910 from old Forrester. Yeah, there was a lot most of the whiskeys I drink I would say are sub hundred proof most of the time But when you're asking that premium price tag and you're not putting like really premium whiskey in there You're you're paying for story here. Yeah, here is where you start for the marketing There's you yeah You pay because it was on a boat in it and it went around in a place and then it came back to a place And now you're supposed to drink it supposed to taste like salt. I swear to God we have better I'm gonna say $30 bottles on the shelf than this $80 bottle. I swear to God. Oh, yeah So what we've talked about here is I didn't know if you thought I was I started moving and then I was like, oh damn moving nice. Got it. You got it I set this one gently on the box So you could have exploded that one and I would not have shed a single tear. This is actually the best one to throw Yeah, and the whole hot almost the Cleveland's based on the other bottle that if it exploded wouldn't care Woodford Reserve Masters collection in the reason this is a problem is we're back to this experimental issue with the experimental thing is cool And apparently we just hate experiments with you. No, because we don't Forgates experimenting we liked all of them the issue becomes You're paying $130 $130 and now they're putting out at least two of these a year right now so to $260 for two bottles of whiskey that are Sometimes are a wall dude garbage. Yeah, we buy one of these for 60 Yeah, I have a gripe about give give that so interesting. It's very $130 like smoky bourbon. It's interesting But I will say this is still one of Dan's favorite bottle ever had three of them. I just want it up I've had three of these but it's this is an older release Yeah, seemingly within the dude the brandy since the brandy cast came out work Listen, this is all with a huge asterisk with the batch proof it we don't stay away from the batch proof We I don't know if it's worth the money. We're not gonna say that but I Wouldn't say avoid it like the plague these this avoid like And just burn it to the ground dude, I swear to God $130 you you will feel so taken advantage of with your first drink and you'll think maybe it'll open up. Don't worry It doesn't it's still bad. The other here's the other trickery Chocolate malted rye now. Hold on. There's fine print that you need to read Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Bakers and Knob Creek the Knob Creek 12 years drastically better and cheaper Yeah, the if the Knob Creek 12 was in Michigan, it would be 60 bars in Knob Creek 120 Oh or store picks for everything. Yeah $50 for you can almost buy two of them and for one of these we Don't buy these and we do stay away from them now as as they're released due to the values is outrageously low I think that if these were $60 a bottle and because more I think that we would buy them Yeah, and we would shoot videos on them and we would never complain Yeah, and we never complain about them.
