Don't panic, stay calm and you will find a solution!
Many people are afraid to travel because they are afraid that something might happen on the road.
And one of the questions that I've been asked all the time is what I'm going to do if the
bike breaks down or if I have another problem on the road. And my answer is always the same.
I actually ask them back what you're gonna do if you ride your motorcycle in your country
and your motorcycle breaks down. And the answer is well I don't know I'll try to fix it if I cannot
I'll ask for help. And then I give exactly the same answer. It doesn't matter where I'm going
to ride at home or 15 or 20 000 kilometers away from home. If I have a technical problem I'll try
to fix it. If I cannot I'll try to find help. All right we're gonna have a long discussion
as usual today. Glad to meet you here. And as I already told you last time you can see now it's
still light outside. Summer is coming. And Richard of course. What we can do without Richard.
Hello Richard. How are you doing? I'm good thank you. Plenty of miles this week. Summer coming.
Yes summer is coming. I also done a lot of kilometers this week. And Graham from New Zealand.
Hello Graham. How are you? How is the weather down there? You must have winter already.
I just started from so far away. It was like 12 hours difference. So it must be
early morning now in New Zealand. Something like that. Okay Matthias, William, Richard and Graham.
Four people. The counter still show three people. Interesting. And Nikolai Kosev. Zdravstvuy Nikolai.
Nikolai from Bulgaria living in London. Graham a bit wet and cold wind mostly. Okay it is winter.
You're very well Nikolai. Nice to hear that. I guess in Sofia is the same environment. They
promised rain but one week no rain. So we were lucky to ride a bit. Maybe tonight it will rain.
Maybe tomorrow. Who cares? Even if it rains when it's a summer it's not that bad. All right.
I think I am ready to start. The topic is when the adventure goes wrong. This is interesting topic.
Many people are afraid to travel because they're afraid that something might happen on the road.
And one of the questions that I've been asked all the time is what I'm going to do if the bike
breaks down or if I have another problem on the road. And my answer is always the same. I actually
ask them back what you're gonna do if you ride your motorcycle in your country and your motorcycle
breaks down. And the answer is well I don't know. I'll try to fix it. If I cannot I'll ask for help.
And then I give exactly the same answer. It doesn't matter where I'm going to ride. At home or 15 or
20 000 kilometers away from home. If I have a technical problem I'll try to fix it. If I cannot
I'll try to find help. The answer is always the same. And this actually a situation never change.
It doesn't matter how far away from home you are. You have to understand this. There is no
guarantee that even if you have a brand new motorcycle it will never happen. Breakdown
situations or any other situations that I'm going to discuss with you today in this stream could
happen everywhere around the world. In your home or as I said thousands of kilometers away.
So what I'm gonna give you also is a few examples. First is a breakdown situation
in the middle of nowhere. Broken, burned clutch. Then I'm gonna talk about food poisoning,
lost documents, bad luck in the middle of nowhere, broken leg in the middle of Sahara Desert,
crash accident in Turkey, high elevation sickness, extreme heat in Asia and how an expensive rescue
operation was almost sent to me in Ladakh, India. In all of these situations we're gonna discuss
exactly the topic of the stream. When the adventure goes wrong. Because
we've got our plans. I told you many times that the plan is something very important. But
the destiny always got its own plan. So what we have planned might not go exactly as we planned.
And that's why I always said don't look for adventure because the adventure will find you
one way or another. In all of these situations, the situations that I'm gonna tell you in this stream,
I did not ask for any adventure. It just came. Because on a long trip everything is unpredictable.
As I said, you have your plans, you have your idea how the trip is supposed to go. But the plans
and the ideas and the reality are never matching perfectly. If they go well, it's good. But sometimes
even small things could just change the whole plan. And that's why you have to be ready for
everything. And most important of everything is when something bad happens, it doesn't matter
what. Do not forget that when you are in a stressful situation, your body and your brain
work much better. You have all of these, what I have to say, you have already these skills in
your brain. You just need to unlock it. So your brain and your body will work much better than
in the normal situations. And be creative. Do not panic and calm down. And you will find a solution.
This is something that I can promise you now. For every possible problem that you might have,
doesn't matter where around the world, you will find a solution if you are calm and if you do not
panic. If you panicked, there is nothing you can do and even people cannot help you. Because
you cannot help a person who don't want to receive help. So stay calm and don't panic
and you will find a solution. This is the advice that I can give you now, straight away. And
do not stop believing in the people's goodwill. Because good people you can find everywhere
around the world. So back to the original question. What I'm gonna do if I have a breakdown
situation now, for example, on my next trip in the middle of Siberia. And my answer will be,
I'll try to fix this problem. If it's possible, I'm gonna fix it. If I cannot fix it, then I'm
gonna look for help. Everywhere around the world are living people. These people are the same like
you. They've got their problems, they've got their laugh, love, hate and any other things that you
have in your normal life. Just because you're born in big western country or whatever country you
live in, does not mean that in the rest of the world, people got nothing and they don't know
how to fix motorcycles or they don't know anything. And just because you're going there,
you're this western star and no one cannot help you. If you understand what I mean with this
a little bit confused sentence. But as I said, everywhere around the world you can find help
because everywhere around the world people living their lives. They, as I said, they've got love,
they've got hate, they've got kids, they've got works and everything is the same. And if you're
calm, if you do not panic, you will find a solution. This I can promise definitely. And I will use one
phrase that I've seen in one interesting movie. The movie was with Tom Hanks and the name was
The Bridge of Spies. It was about Russian and American spies that were caught during the Cold
War and they exchanged them in the middle of Berlin, in one famous bridge in Berlin. I've
been to this bridge many times. But the point I wanted to tell you is that from the moment they
catch the American spy and Tom Hanks was his lawyer and he was explained to him what is the
sentence and they might give him a sentence to life or even death sentence in Russia because of
his crime. But he was not worried at all. And then Tom Hanks asked him, are you not afraid that you
might die here in America? And the Russian spy said, will it help? Will it help if I worry now?
So I can ask you the same. You love that movie. Yeah, it's a wonderful movie. So I can ask you now,
if you worry now about your future trip that is still not started, but you're afraid that you
might have a breakdown situation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, will it help? No, it won't. So
you don't need to worry about it because you don't know first, will you need help? Maybe everything
will go absolutely smooth. Yes, I'm going to tell you now all of the situations that I've got during
my trips. But in all of these situations, we found solutions and I went and continued my trip
and I completed all of these trips. And here I am now in front of you talking after so many years,
even that I've got so many different situations. So solutions are always there. You just need to be
calm and go and pick the right for you and continue your trip or come back home safe in one
piece, whatever happens. So let me give you a few examples that might help you or might give you
not exactly the guidance, but maybe will give you some courage. And with these examples, I just
want to show you that in every situation you can find the solution. The first that I want to say
now, it's a breakdown situation. I actually burned a clutch in the middle of nowhere. So when I was
in Central Asia, in Turkmenistan actually, with my riding friend Dima, we wanted to go and see
Dervaza gas crater. This is an interesting gas crater in the middle of Karakum desert that's
burning gas. It's a very spectacular picture to see, especially during the night. They also
named it the door to hell. This is what they named it. Let me see if I can find it here
to send you a link to read about it. So we wanted to see this gas crater in Dervaza,
but because on this trip, this was the first trip to Dima, which was including some kind of
dirt roads and sand and stuff like that. And he was a little bit afraid to ride on the sand.
And because of that, he burned his clutch in the sand, on the sand over there, because to reach
this gas crater, you need to ride like seven kilometers on the very deep sand. And if you've
never done it before, it is absolutely possible to burn your clutch if you don't know what to do
exactly. So during this seven kilometers, we spent like almost like a one hour and 30 minutes to get
there. There were a lot of fall downs and a lot of pushings and stuff like that. But finally,
on some stage on the next day, when we were getting out of this sand, when I was pushing Dima,
I heard that his clutch was slipping. And I asked him, is your clutch slipping? Is everything all
right? And he said, no, no, everything's all right. The clutch is fine. And I said,
why don't you release the clutch? And I'm pushing here and the bike stay in one place.
And he said, no, everything is all right. So we finally get out of this sand. But after a few
kilometers already on the road, he said on the intercom that, well, I think that my clutch
is already burned. And I said, you think or it is already gone? So we stop to check and we find out
that the clutch is already burned. And we were in the middle of Turkmenistan. We did not have
any spare clutch plates and actually we've got no solutions at all. So in this situation,
after more 20 kilometers, the bike start to slip really badly. The clutch start to slip really
badly. And our speed from 80 dropped to 60. After a few more kilometers, we dropped to 40.
And after a few more kilometers, we even dropped to 20 kilometers per hour. And with probably 20
or 15 kilometers per hour, we were able to reach a town on the road that we had been.
And of course, in this town, we cannot find anything. There is no garages over there. There
is no spare parts, nothing. What we found is one hotel. So we park the motorcycles in the hotel
and start to think about it, what we can do at the moment. It is obvious that with this
motorcycle, we cannot continue travel. It is obvious. We don't have any clutch.
So then I remember that I watched somewhere that someone got a similar situation and he
add under the springs of the clutch small washers. And these washers actually
lift the springs a little bit and provided more pressure to the plates and the clutch was working.
We have never done this before. I just read about it, but I never done it before. But even so,
this information was more than enough to put his motorcycle on the ground like a dead horse,
open the cover of the clutch, take all the plates out, remove the springs and put the
small washers under the springs to help to press the clutch plates. And with this situation,
we managed to bring back the clutch to the some kind of specifications and continue our trip.
In fact, the clutch burned once again, but after 7000 kilometers in Kazakhstan.
So we after this situation, we've done 7000 kilometers with already burned clutch. So we
save the situation at the moment. And then just before the clutch finished again, we were in
Kazakhstan in Almaty, and we've got the chance to change it over there. We found a good garage and
spare parts and everything, but we thought that the clutch will be will will stay and will work
until Bulgaria. And 1000 kilometers later, it burns again. So even if we want to put the washers once
again, it doesn't work anymore. So again, we can stop on the road and cry and panic and say nothing
we can do at the moment, it's impossible to fix or just to ruin the whole trip. But what we have
done, we found the transportation from the position that we were to Samara, Russia, it was more than
800 kilometers to transport the motorcycle in the cargo area of one big truck. And then in Russia,
we found the plates and fix the clutch. This is one situation that in in most of the or it for
many people will be like end of the trip. But somehow, because we stayed calm. And because we
were thinking we were using our heads and our brains were able to fix this situation and continue
traveling to our trip and we actually finish the trip. So this was one of the situations that I
want to tell you. Let me go to the second food poisoning. This might happen to many of you.
And once again, if you just think about it, oh, I have such a bad diarrhea, what I'm gonna do?
You will survive. You don't need to worry about it. Diarrhea will come one way or another. If you
plan to travel outside of Europe, especially around Asia, it will be not will it come, it will be when
it's going to come. So if you have problems like health problems or diarrhea or whatever, all of
this is fixable if you're only calm down. You can have a local pills or local doctor or whatever
you need. When when I've got this problem, it was on one of the one of the high altitude villages in
Uzbekistan, in Kyrgyzstan. And it was on 4000 meters above the sea level. And I felt so bad
the whole night. I was not sleeping and I've got this bad diarrhea. I was thinking what I'm gonna
do from now. I've got like one week right more on this altitude and I feel so bad. So on the next
morning, I woke up and I realized that on the next door, the house I was on the next door, the guy
was doctor. So he gave me some pills and everything was solved out in the middle of the nowhere, just
just like that. Another situation that I can tell you is again in this Karakum desert when we were
trying to reach the Dervazogaz crater with Dima, he lost his passport. He lost his passport in the
middle of Karakum desert, in the deep sand, in this seven kilometer stretch. And what you're gonna do
without a passport in Turkmenistan? Turkmenistan is very different country. It's more like a
communistic country with one big president, important president that is like a god.
And you cannot do anything without passport. Yeah, Teneri Traveler, do you carry spare plates now?
Yes, I always carry a spare clutch plates after this situation. But back in the days, I haven't
got with me. Now on each one of my trips, I carry spare clutch plates because I know that I can
change it just for one hour on the road if something like this is happening. And even now on
my trip to Russia, even that my motorcycle is brand new and it's got like 25 000 kilometers on
the clock, I will still bring my clutch plates because you never know in what kind of situations
situation I might go in. For example, if I need to ride in the very deep mud which I expect to meet
there, in some situations I might even burn the clutch and I want to be ready. I'm gonna have
all the clutch plates, I'm gonna have also the gasket of the clutch cover with me. This is very
important. If you're prepared well, if you're not panic, you will find a solution. So with Dima's
passport lost in the middle of nowhere with seven visas on it, the trip is actually over. But luckily
after a few minutes we found it. Not we, a local guys with a small motorcycle found the motorcycle
somewhere in the middle of the sand. Even that I went three times on this deep sand and I
sand and I cannot find it. But the luck is always with you. When you believe in people's goodwill,
when you do not panic, when you're looking for solution, you will have of course the help of
God or luck or whatever you believe and you will find the solution. Another one example that I can
tell you, it's from a North Island when I dropped my motorcycle in this ditch next to the road. This
is actually the thumbnail that I use for the live stream. The picture is from that moment. It was
such an unfair and unlucky moment that I've got back there. But of course, let me tell you what
happened. I stopped next to the road to ask for help and then I just get out of the bike and
instead of looking behind me, I made one step back and I fell into this ditch. And when I was going
down to the ditch, I grabbed the motorcycle to support myself and I dragged the motorcycle
after me into the ditch. So it was absolutely unlucky situation at the moment. But the worst
thing that I can do over there is to panic or to cry or to say that, okay, the trip is over, I'm
done. No, no, no, no, no. I just stayed calm down, managed to get out of the ditch, tried to remove
the motorcycle alone, but I couldn't. Even that this area that the situation was happening, this
is North Island, there were no people at all over there. So I need to walk like almost like two
kilometers to find people, to find the first person and then a few more people and then I needed four
people all together to remove my motorcycle from the ditch. And just to realize that there is
nothing wrong with the motorcycle. My first impression was, that's it, the bike is completely
crushed, the forks are bended or whatever is happening and I cannot continue traveling.
But after a few minutes, I realized that the bike was just fine and I was able to continue traveling
with just one broken screen. Nikolai Kosev, I always wondering why you stopped riding with
Dima, I guess that's the answer. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This was not the reason I stopped
traveling with Dima. Dima is a great guy. Yeah, sometimes he's a little bit reckless and he does
not think so much, but this was not the reason. The reason is that now we have a different
understanding about traveling. On my trips, I would like to meet many people because I'm like,
I am what I am. I like to meet people, I like to explore different things. Dima, it's a little bit
different. He wants to travel alone, he does not want to meet people, he just wants to go to the
hotel, checking his telephone and go to sleep, maybe have some rakia. But I'm a different type
of person. He loves to travel a little bit faster, he wants to check a little bit more museums and
stuff like that. We actually worked very well together for a few years, but finally we stopped
working together because of completely different reasons. Not because of the situations like that,
even though we've got many like this, many. I always said to him, Dima, you're already 45,
46 years old. Get your shits together, I cannot think about everything. And he said, I don't need
to think about all the stuff because I'm with you, you're gonna take care about everything and stuff
like that. But now, as I said, he's a good guy, we're still very, very good friends. He's, by the
way, now is flying to America and he's going to make a big tour around America and Canada
with another friend of his. Yeah, this was not the reason why we stopped riding together.
So, once again, I dropped the motorcycle in a very deep ditch in North Ireland and it's supposed to
be the end of the trip, but it's turned out it was just nothing. It was just one obstacle
that was easy to fix. Get out with only one broken screen and continue the trip without
any problems. Another situation that I can tell you now, again with Dima, was when we were in
Morocco. He fell down and broke his leg in the middle of Morocco desert. And again, now with
broken leg, you can definitely say, okay, broken leg, the trip is over. Yes, but no. Dima managed to
ride his motorcycle 1000 kilometers with broken leg until Spanish border. So, one way or another,
he continued traveling even with the broken leg. It is not because he's a superhero, no, it was
because we cannot leave Morocco without his motorcycle, because of the temporary import
declaration that Dima got in Morocco. So, at the beginning, it looked like, okay, that's it,
the trip is over, Dima is with broken leg, we can finish here and go back home. No! Dima was
staying in the hotel for four or five days until we finished our trip in Morocco. And after these
four or five days, we traveling together until the Spanish border. And he was with the broken
leg with a plaster on it. So, again, stay calm, try to find solution and you will find it. And the next
one that I want to tell you, this is the crash accident that I got in Turkey two years ago.
Again, when everything is happening, when the situation is happening on the highways, on
Istanbul highways, when the car hit me, from the moment I was flying in the air, the only thought
that I've got in my mind was not, oh, I crashed now and the motorcycle is damaged and stuff like
that. My only thought was, until I was still flying, my only thought was what I'm gonna say
to the sponsors right now. Because I've got sponsors, I've got all of this organization,
I've got so many people to meet me on the road, I've got everything prepared and then I've got
crash in the beginning of the trip. And I said, my thought was what I'm gonna say to the sponsors
right now. And then, boom, I hit the ground. After that, I stood up, I saw that the bike was under the
the mountain, under the barrier over there, dragged the bike out, lift the bike, start the engine,
it was working. And then I look around and it was not that bad. The handlebar was bent a little bit,
mirrors were broken, small damages on the rear side. I checked the wheels were fine
and then my brain start to calm down, calm down, calm down. I said, okay, relax, maybe the things
are not that bad, maybe I can continue my trip, maybe I can straighten the handlebar, I can
travel without any mirrors or stuff like that. And just when you calm down, when you just relax
and calm down, all solutions will come. So in the next few minutes, I made a short video
that I published online, I explained to people what is happening in the situation
on the road and everything. And in the next few hours, all the parts, all the spare parts that I
needed for my motorcycle were already brought to me from all Turkish riders over there. Everything
that I need, I got it just for one day. And on the next day, my motorcycle was ready to travel
and with the same bike, I've done more 15 000 kilometers around Turkey, completed my trip and
all went absolutely fine. Again, terrible situation in the beginning of the trip. If I panic, if I say
that's it, I'm scared now, I'm afraid that I'm gonna crash again or something like that. If you
panic, that's it, end of the story. But if you're calm down, you can continue traveling. I can give
you a few more examples. I've got like a high elevation sickness in Ladakh, North India. I already
explained this story many times, I even got a video about it. This was the only time in my trips that
I was really afraid that I'm gonna, I'm gonna die because of this high elevation sickness. I was
traveling in on the back side of the truck. I've got this on video, I'm gonna share this video.
You did blame yourself quite a lot of the accidents in Turkey. Yes, I did because it was absolutely
my fault. I cannot blame Turkish traffic, I cannot blame Turkish drivers. It was absolutely 100%
my fault. I know what I have done and that's why I was the only person to blame. I cannot blame any
other people. It was just my, my problem, my mistake and I paid for it. The only injury,
injury that I've got was a pain on my right knee that lasts around 10 days and completely recovered
after that. So high elevation sickness in Ladakh, North India. Yes, it was very bad. It was very
tough situation. I told that I'm gonna die but somehow I managed to go through and now I am happy
to explain everything about it. Another, another one situation that I can tell you again is from
Turkmenistan. We faced such a bad heat and dehydration and we were left without any heat,
without any water in the middle of nowhere and it was so bad but again from the middle of nowhere
we found people to help us, to give us food, to give us water and many more situations like that.
When, when, when the things look so scary and so without, without any possible solutions you will
find at least three. But first you need to sit, calm down, drink some water, eat something and
then the things became much more different. Let me give you one example. It's happening in Central
Asia. We went to one guest house. Guest house is not exactly what it was. It was like a small old
house that the owner rented for travelers like us. So when we went to a small room that the owner
gave us we saw that in the middle of the room it was a small curtain and the curtain was actually
there making the, it was to separate two rooms. And when we entered into this room from that the
curtain moved a little bit and a European face very badly burned from the, from the sun show up
and asked very slowly, do you speak English? And I said to him, yes we can speak English,
what can I do for you? And he said, oh thank you God. And he started to explain his situation. He
was a guy from Switzerland, a bicyclist who decided to go and travel with a bicycle on
Pamir highway in Tajikistan. And he got his bike shipped to Bishkek and from Bishkek he started
traveling with a bicycle and he got only five days and he was in such a bad condition,
burned everywhere from the sun, completely dehydrated, completely exhausted, completely
not in good shape and ready to go home. And I said to him, okay, calm down, have a seat here
with us on the table, eat something, drink some rakia and then you can think about the situation,
what is about to come tomorrow. He said, no way, no way, tomorrow I'm going to ship my motorcycle
back and I'm going home. He was panicked. He was, he just wanted to go home immediately,
just like that. But after a few more minutes, a few more drinks and a little bit more food,
he relaxed and then he started to think more creatively, more positively. And after maybe
an hour more, he decided, okay, I'm going to calm down and I'm going to continue. Because I said to
him, you don't need to panic now, because everything you need to worry now is just one day.
You need to survive one more day. If you cannot survive tomorrow, then you can go home. And this
will be exactly the same for you. If you have a problem, it doesn't matter where around the world,
you just need to calm down, sit down and think, okay, what can I do now? Okay, my motorcycle is
broken. I need this and that part. Can I fix it here? No, you cannot fix it here, but maybe you
can fix it on the next town, which is 100 kilometers away. Okay, what I need now? I need a
truck to load my motorcycle. Okay, I'm going to stay here and wait for truck to load my motorcycle.
And then you'll start to find different solutions. Then you'll see a car. Maybe the truck is not
going to come, but we can put the motorcycle in this car if I remove the front wheel or the
handlebar. And this is how the solutions are coming one after another. Poacher, will you have
any problem if your only language was English? You speak several languages, that makes your trips
possible. This is a good point, poacher. Yes, if you know more languages, of course, it's better.
Even if you don't know any languages, you'll be all right. For example, nowadays we've got Google
Translate and so many different applications that you can have on your telephone to help you with
almost any language that you need. An example that I can give you is from Mongolia. In Mongolia,
people speak nothing, just Mongolian language. In many, many rare situations, very old people speak
a little bit Russian, but that's it. So the whole Mongolia, we were shaking hands, drawing pictures
and using Google Translate for everything that we need. One of the examples that I can give you
is the word for hotel. The word for hotel everywhere around the world is the same, hotel, hotel,
hostel, whatever. It's the same around the world. But in Mongolia, the word for hotel is
which is completely different word. So one of the days we enter a town that was
small town, nothing significant, but I know that in this town we can find a place to sleep.
So we enter this town and riding in the middle of the city center and looking for hotels.
And there were no hotels. And after we spent like 15 minutes going around, we haven't seen
nothing, no hotels. And I said, whoa, well, and I stopped asking people, hotel, hotel, and people
know nothing. They just, they did not, they did not even recognize this word. And then we stopped
and we Googled and we realized that the word for hotel was Taj Bukhal. And then we can see it,
Taj Bukhal there, Taj Bukhal there, Taj Bukhal everywhere. So yes, definitely the languages
will help and they will be very, very useful. But even if you don't know the language,
you will be all right. For example, the whole Turkey, I went around whole Turkey
with probably around 15 or 20 words, Turkish words that I know. And there were bread,
cheese, chai, water, and place to sleep. These are the words that I used in the whole Turkey
and they helped me a lot. So my advice to you, if you, if you plan to go to a country that
is different, that got a different language than yours, at least learn some basic words
because they can definitely help you. Okay. So as I said, whatever situation you have,
if you stay calm down, if it's necessary, sit somewhere, have food, have some drink and start
to think about it. Okay. What can I do now? Start to think about it the same way you're going to
think if you are at home, not to panic, not to get crazy, not to start to break everything and
fall apart. Just calm down and you'll find the solutions. And yeah, I've got a few more examples,
but I can, I can see that these examples are not exactly the proper one that I was thinking.
And maybe I told you these stories with only one person and it is not to tell you that I'm a great
rider. No, it is to show you that you can find the solution to every possible problem that you can
have on the road. This was the purpose to tell you these stories. Maybe they need to be said,
the complete stories to understand it better, but I don't want to waste your time now. That's why I
try to shorten it a bit. Maybe, maybe it's not the right way, but I will give you the rest of
the time now, the rest of the time that we've got for some questions. If you have, there might be
technical questions, there might be different questions, there might be questions on the topic
or different topics, whatever you like. Just ask me questions and I will try to help. Like a
Poacher asked just a few minutes ago, Poacher, do you ever struggle to find accommodation?
Yes, I did a few times. That's why I've got my tent. I've got my tent and it is like the last
resort. If I cannot find anything else, I can use the tent. But my advice is always the same.
I never book anything in advance until I am absolutely sure that I can get there. For
example, if I have for today planned like 500 kilometers and I have plans to sleep somewhere
at the end of these 500 kilometers, I'm not going to look for the hotel until I've got like 400,
450 kilometers. Then I can stop next to the road and try with booking or some other applications
like this to find a place to sleep. And usually this system works at all. If I cannot find it,
then I will go to the town and will ride my motorcycle around the town and will try to
find a hotel, hostel or guest house or something like that. If I cannot find even in this situation,
I'm gonna stop and ask people where I can find a place to sleep. And if I cannot find at all,
then I have my tent. But I don't think that this is something that you need to worry about. You
might worry about it only if you plan to visit very busy places in the high touristic seasons
or very expensive places. But in all of these situations, you will have your tent as a last
possible option. So accommodation, it's not a problem at all. Wim Ross and getting a ferry
last minute also never a problem. Teneri Traveler, a positive altitude fix anything. Yeah, absolutely
agree. Getting a ferry in last minute, I have done it a number of times. It's not a problem at all.
Positive altitude fix anything. A smile fix anything. Once again, you have to know that
whatever place you decided to ride, there are people over there living.
What about petrol quality? Nikolai Kosev. Yeah, on some countries around the world, the petrol is
not the same what you used to have in your country. Even in Bulgaria, the petrol is not bad at all.
When I was in Central Asia, the best petrol that we can get there was 86 octane. And 86 octane,
when you put it on your motorcycle, you twist the throttle and a motorcycle makes like this.
Start working normally. It was very bad. And you can hear the valves are ticking,
but still working. But if you have problems with your motorcycle, if you have a motorcycle with a
very big ratio, like a KTM, it is better for you to take some additives, some octane busters or
stuff like that. Then you can mix it with the petrol that you got and you'll be all right.
But that's why I always said if you plan to travel in these areas, better is to go with something
more reliable, something more simple, not exactly KTM. Teneri Traveler, a good plan and preparation
will be ready for any problem. Relax, confident and you're ready to travel. Yeah, absolutely.
That's why I said so many times the plan is so important. When you know where you're going,
you'll be all right. You'll find a solution for everything. And if you don't know where you go,
then you have a problem. But when you know the country, when you know the towns,
when you have a basic idea about all the roads, when you have at least 10 or 20 words on the
language that you plan to visit, the country that you plan to visit. If you cannot remember
these words, make a list. You can keep it even on your telephone. I can tell you what I have done
when I first time left Bulgaria. I went to Spain. It was in 1999. And I've got all the words that I
need, mostly questions on different papers, and I kept it on my pockets. So every time when I need
something, I just take this paper and I was reading where is this or I need this or I need
that. This is something that you can make to prepare yourself better. If you don't know the
language, write some words and you will be all right. Great New Zealand. On your trips, have you
had to help another motorcycle cyclist who had the problems? Yes, it's happened a few times to help
people on the road. Yes, it's happened. I can give you a few examples, but I don't think that
they will be useful now. But yes, it's happened a few times that I just helped a few people on the
road. What about visa dates? If you're in crossing border, then you need to plan more. Do you ever
get visas on entry or do you need to get them before you leave? Depends on the country. On
some countries, you can get the visa on the border. On some countries, you need to get a visa in a
advance. For example, Central Asia. For Central Asia, I've got seven different visas. Six, actually,
because the seventh visa, Turkmenistan visa, I've got on the border. So, everything needed to be
prepared in advance. So, I prepared all of my visas before I even left Berlin. Yes, visas are
something important and they need, they usually get, you usually get visa from specific date to
specific date and it is very important to prepare everything in advance. Now, for example, for my
Russia trip, I've got this three-month visa. It starts on the 30th of June and it will be until
the 30th of September. I've got this three-month window and I have to go into the country and
leave the country before it's finished. Visas are something very important and you cannot play games
with it. Nikolai Kosev, 86 of towns, if you have the latest GS 1200, might be in trouble. Yeah,
absolutely, or the KTF. But for every possible problem, you can find at least three solutions.
If you are just calm down. Good night, my friend. Really good topic, maybe the most important yet.
Ride safe and happy travels. Yeah, the topic is good. I'm afraid that I did not present it properly,
but anyway, I believe that at least I will give you some ideas or some direction to
think a little bit more and eventually to help you find a solution for everything that you need.
But the takeaway from this stream is that if you worry, it is not going to help at all.
If you are calm down, if you are positive, if you're creative, you can find a solution for
everything. That's why I always preach to avoid problems, you need to prepare yourself better.
To avoid problems, you need to have a simple and reliable motorcycle. Nikolai Kosev, with the
visiting, can you just turn you on board and get a temporary if you want to leave the country that
was not planned in advance? In some countries, you might be able to do it, but in most of the
countries, no, you cannot get visa on the border. Depends on the country, you have to ask this
in advance because you might be surprised. Closure, I actually like things going wrong when I don't
go exactly to plan, make the life interesting. Yeah, it might sound like interesting or like
an adventure, but I honestly prefer the things to go absolutely smooth. And when they go smooth,
the trip is going right on the plan that I've got and I'm happy to come back home safe without
any problems, without any adventures, anything. But when shit happened, it just happened.
Graham, I think BMW can put a low octane fuel map into the bike. On some models, yes.
Did you need visa for Turkey? No, we don't need visa for Turkey. Turkey, you can visit without
any visa. For Russia, do you need to enter and leave the specific locations? No, there is no
location. When you got visa for Russia, you can enter Russia from everywhere. Basically,
now I can enter Russia even from Ukraine. The reason I'm not going to go through Ukraine is
not because I'm afraid from the war. There is no war around the Polish border. But the reason I'm
not going to do it because from Ukrainian side, the border officers might feel really upset because
I want to go to Russia. And they might slow me down, even not let me go into Russia. That's why
I will avoid Ukraine and go to probably Latvia. Porsche i7, bought it precisely because it doesn't
have electronics to go wrong. Yeah, this was another of the reasons why I bought this motorcycle,
because it's very simple. The only electronics that it has is a fuel injection. But have you
ever heard about problems with fuel injections? Not at all. On some KTM models, they've got
problems with fuel pumps, injection pumps. But on my old Tenere, I still run the original fuel
injection system and the same pump. I never got any problems with this. So yeah, simplicity is the
key. Yeah, all of these features and electronics, they sound very good on paper. But when you need
to travel outside of Europe, it's a little bit more complicated. Yes, you can find help, but it
will come very slowly. And it will cost you a lot. That's why I prefer to have something more
reliable. Leaking clutches or KTMs? Well, yeah, KTMs are not really famous with their reliability.
But it is what it is. Wonderful bikes to ride, but not really to own. I like them very much
just to ride. Ready to race, as they say. Hydraulic pistons, yes.
Do I recommend fuel injections over carburetors? Always. Always. Because carburetors are easy.
If you get bad petrol, you can really jam your carburetor. Also, not many people can fix
carburetors. Now you can tell me that, yeah, carburetors are simple. Everywhere on the road,
someone will fix it. Oh, is that so? Can you fix a carburetor? So for me, fuel injection is always
better. Because, as I said just a few minutes ago, I haven't heard about injection system that failed.
It is a very simple system. It is already made from 30-40 years. It is so polished and done
perfectly that I never heard about problems with the fuel injection system. Any other problems,
but not with fuel injection system. It will be always, it will give you better efficiency,
better petrol consumption, better performance on your motorcycle. Everything is going to be better.
So I cannot see any benefits on the carburetor over fuel injection system. I'm not gonna talk
even about high altitude when you need to adjust the carburetor. If you're a mechanic, if you know
how to clean, how to adjust and how to set your carburetor, fine, fair enough. But if you don't
know how to do anything, forget about it. You cannot even twist two bolts. If you twist here
and there, you can even... Polshar, do you have a capacitor to replace the battery goes flat?
You can bump start and run without battery on the FE bike. No, you cannot. On the fuel injection
motorcycle, you need power. You cannot start the engine without any power. But battery, okay, when
you have a flat battery. I got a flat battery two years ago in Odessa, Ukraine. I stopped the
motorcycle in front of the hostel that I planned to stay. And then I realized that my battery died
over there. On the next day, I found another battery, replaced it and job done. So when the
battery died, you just replace it and continue riding. But yes, you're right, you cannot travel
without battery if you have a fuel injection system. This is maybe one of the minuses, but
you're gonna need battery anyway, even on the carburetor. Yes, you can use a capacitor, easy to
make. Okay, maybe, fair enough, I didn't know about this. But you're gonna need your battery anyway.
You cannot just push and jump start your motorcycle all the time. Especially if you have
something like 600-700cc, it's not that easy, or even bigger, it's not that easy to jump start it.
Nikolai Kosev, do you lube the chain every day on your trips? Every time when I remember it,
I do it. But honestly, I'm not, I don't worry so much about the chain. Now at the moment,
my chain on the Tenere, the stock chain is on 26,000 kilometers. I lube it, I don't know,
I did not even use one bottle of chain spray for the whole period of this. I never worry about the
chain, and they always last at least 20,000 kilometers. Usually, when I ride the whole day
on the trips, later in the evening, when I stop, if I remember it, I just spray the chain,
and then continue the next day. The next day, when I stop, if I remember it, I spray the chain.
But it's not something that I'm so strict about. It costs approximately 5 pounds. Okay, good to
know this. I never tried, it might work, but I'm afraid that if you ride your motorcycle without
the battery, you might burn some other electronics. I am not sure about it, I never tried,
but as I said, I prefer just to change my battery and continue traveling. If you have even a little
bit of power in your battery, which I believe you're gonna have, because it is not that easy
to drain the battery completely, unless the battery died for some reason. But if you have
even a little bit of power, then you can jump the motorcycle and it will start, but you wouldn't be
able to use the button to start it. But yes, it is a good information. Thank you very much for
riding this Porsche. If you have any big technical problem, major technical problem, you just break
your engine, or your gearbox, or something like that, you cannot fix this problem anyway, and
you don't need to worry about it. If it's happening, okay, it's happening, then you're gonna find
another solution. Probably, stay there until you fix the bike. But for anything else, you just don't
need to worry about it, because it might never happen. If you prepare yourself in advance, if you
prepare your motorcycle in advance, everything that I told in the previous streams, you will avoid
95% of the possible problems. My second channel Motorcycle Adventures Life got almost
1000 subscribers. Thank you very much for everyone who watch it. In the next few days, I'm gonna turn
1000 subscribers, which is the first milestone that I've got. And let me tell you now, I already
said to many people that I'm gonna say to you as well, the second channel Motorcycle Adventures Life
I'm gonna use to upload all of my travel videos, include the short updates that I plan to make now
on my trip to Russia. Short updates until I'm on the road, non-edited, a few minutes per day or
per few days, and then when I come back home and everything is all right, I'm gonna make a long
detailed video series, like 15-20 minutes each, but when I come back home. But everything I'm
gonna upload on my second channel Motorcycle Adventures Life. The first channel, the main
channel Motorcycle Adventures, I'm gonna keep only for the videos that I usually post. They will be
gear review, motorcycles reviews or different type of advice that I'm giving there.
Ilkut, nice to meet you man. How was the Balkan camping? Wonderful. We've got a
great meeting over there, like 70-80 people, 30-40 people from abroad, a lot of fun, a lot of drinks,
wonderful roasted lamb, everything went absolutely perfect. You should have come,
maybe next year. Ilkut, do you have any questions on the topics that we discussed here? When the
adventures goes wrong, when you have any problems on the road or something like that, because you
came late? Yeah, the same for me. The help is everywhere, just need to be accepted. If you
believe that the world is a dangerous place and you cannot have help, you're right. On the other
hand, if you believe that the world is a wonderful place and you can have help everywhere, you're
right again. So it all depends on you. Even from a German guy in the middle of nowhere in Turkey.
Absolutely, yeah. Germans are not bad people. Yeah, a little bit like horses, but in general
they're not bad people. Thank you very much for coming, Poacher. It could be done better, but next
time. If you have any ideas or any preferences about the stream for the next week, just let me
know. If not, I'm gonna find the topic that I will find or I will think that it will be useful for
many people. But if you have any ideas, you can tell me now or you can text me in the community
tab later, whatever you decided. If not, next week's topic will be something that I will pick.
I haven't been sick on the trip. In fact, I haven't been sick in the last, I'll say, 27-8 years.
Never been sick in the last 27-8 years. So maybe I'm lucky, maybe I'm healthy, but no, I've never
been sick before. Not on the trips. The only problems that I've got were diarrhea and high
altitude sickness that I told you once. That's it. But high altitude sickness happened because I was
not prepared. Maybe the next week's stream is going to be about riding on high altitude. I've
got many, many interesting things that I would like to share with you guys. Back to the question
to Wim Ross. Do you have any advice on how to prevent injury on long trips, especially off-road?
The only advice that I can give you is don't put yourself in the situation that you cannot control
alone all the time. So just avoid riding on the terrain that you don't have the proper skills or
you're not sure about it. Off-road, don't go alone. If you go alone, just again think twice
for everything. Don't do anything in the name of the adventure. Don't risk more than you should
and many more like this. Tire selection can be a topic according to the tour. Yes, it could be,
it could be. We can speak about the tires as well. Anyway, I'm gonna find an interesting topic
next week and we're gonna discuss about it. Alright guys, have a good night. See you next time. Ciao.
