You'll pretend you're a bee so you have to buzz like a bee.
There and then you go in and you pick up the pollen. Yeah. And then you pollinate the female
flowers and you see here how. How can you tell? Do you see here? Yeah. You see here how this one
has a really long skinny neck. That's a male flower. You see this one has a little baby
zucchini on it. Oh my lord. So this is a female flower and this is a female flower. Hi my name
is Lona Sorenson and I am the owner of the company Northern Roots Consulting and I have
been so so fortunate to recently receive a grant from ITI, a small grant to start a market garden
and I have been very very busy transforming a big lawn into a beautiful abundant garden in less than
six weeks. See all of those cucumbers? Pick the bottom one. And I gotta cut it? Yeah you got it
right where the where the cucumber ends. Today I've been so fortunate to get a grant from
recreation, NWC Recreation and Parks to host an event called Food is Medicine for Elders.
So food is medicine by sort of in several different ways. So the first way I think is to
work with the land, get your hands in the soil, get to know your soil, get to know your plants.
It is scientifically proven that microbes in soil settle you down and is like a natural
antidepressant. Is that a yeah it looks like a female flower. Oh super! Hi my name is Pat Jasper.
This is just fabulous. I was here two weeks ago to pick a few seedlings from bone. This stuff was
all under grow cloth and maybe this height and look at it now it's totally lush. I can't believe
that this lady has done such wonderful stuff over I believe it's a month and a half. This was
just pure mom. People who haven't been here before and it happened today quite a bit they'll come to
the edge of the garden and they'll stop and they'll go wow this is so beautiful because all the plants
are so healthy and with all this good weather we've had they've just exploded and of course
I've taken very good care of them so yeah so they're just sort of becoming all right away.
So they're like a snacking cucumber and there really are many on there. It's like just that
they will come and they will hang out here with me and they'll talk and they'll be excited about
the radishes and and you know we made this beautiful drink together we picked some mint
and and put in this beautiful iced tea drink with rose petals and spruce gum ice cubes and
you know just to have that time together around the gardening is so fulfilling. Cheers and cucumbers!
