Hey, everybody.
We're back with Selena Gomez.
Recently announced season five of Owen Lee,
Murders in the Building.
Congratulations.
Yay.
I'm excited.
Did you have any idea?
It's such a crazy, it's kind of a crazy idea for a show.
Did you have any idea there was going
to be this big of a hit?
No.
It's not because I didn't believe in it.
I guess I don't think that way.
And I was with these two legends.
It was very intimidating.
Last time you came with Steve and Marty, as I said before.
And here's the three of you together.
What is your favorite thing about hanging out
with 70-year-olds?
You know, they just don't care about the little things
that maybe I do.
Like what?
Overthinking, overanalyzing, being too,
looking for a deep thing in something that's very simple.
And I love that.
So you're looking for meaning in the script
and they're looking for one take.
Yeah, they're usually wanting the punchline.
So it's wonderful, though.
I mean, they're truly gentlemen.
And I love that I can say they're
some of my best friends.
That is lovely.
Now, now you are starring in Amelia Perez
and won a Best Actress award at the Cannes Festival
along with your co-stars together.
For those who haven't seen it, we
had Zoe Zaldanian recently to talk about the movie.
For those who haven't seen it, can you
explain what the movie's about?
Not necessarily.
That's what she said.
Because just because it's kind of the experience.
I sound crazy.
I don't know how to explain it.
It's a musical.
It's a thriller.
It has a little bit of humor.
It looks extraordinary.
It's crazy.
It's just a wonderful ride of these four women
that are going through each different versions
of their challenges.
Well, the film is in Spanish.
Yes.
And I understand you grew up, when you were a little girl,
you spoke Spanish at home.
Do you still speak Spanish?
Not fluently, because I got my first job at seven
and I immediately was saying everything in English.
But to reconnect to that has always
been really important to me.
I released a whole album in Spanish.
And having the opportunity to do this was really special for me.
So I love getting in touch with that side.
Was it difficult?
No.
It was really comfortable.
Not to act in, like, you know, just snapped in?
No, it was really comfortable.
Yeah, it felt really comfortable for me.
You got your break on the Disney Channel's
Wizards of Waverly Place at 14?
Is that when you, that was a big thing for you?
Now there's a sequel series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,
which I understand was your idea.
Yes.
Do you enjoy being a mentor to that new young cast?
1,000%.
In a way, that's what I wanted to do,
you know, by creating a whole new series for a new generation
that families and people could watch,
that my sisters, 11, could watch.
And I care.
I know this industry is really tricky.
So I care deeply.
They all have my numbers.
They're probably annoyed with me at this point by checking in.
Well, that's nice that you care, because as someone
who was a child actress, what advice do you
have for them to get through it?
You apparently, I mean, everyone has their ups and downs,
but you seem well-adjusted.
But I think, you know, for me, it's not necessarily advice.
You're going to choose and make the choices you want to make.
But everyone around you can tell you you're amazing.
And if you keep believing all these false narratives,
you're going to believe them when they say negative things
about you.
So just trying to have a grasp on reality and stay grounded
is really, really important.
And I think that's all I can give them is that advice.
Did you always have somebody who could tell you the truth?
Oh, yeah, that was my mom.
Oh, yeah.
Wow, wow.
She was very, she was, I wouldn't say she was strict.
She was really fun.
But she, no, she was strict.
Well, Selena, lovely to see you again.
It was great to see you.
Thank you for having me.
Thank you guys so much.
Emilia Perez is on Netflix now.
Selena Gomez, everybody.
We'll be right back with Seth Meyers and the Colbert
Questionnaire.
