Gravesham adiZone launch
Dec 26, 2024
It's people walking past places like this that see what the legacy is meant to be.
Gregson's philosophy around the Adizone is that we're very serious about the Olympics and we
feel it's important for the community both from a business point of view and both from a sport
and cultural point of view. We've been working very hard as a borough to get as many facilities
within the promenade for the children to use. Our roles with the school sports partnership
is very basically to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to participate in at least five
hours of high quality PE and school sports. We will be linking with the Adizone and we've had
a lot of interest from our schools already in terms of using it not only for their PE lesson
but after school clubs as you can see with the basketball, dance clubs, lots of different types
of users will be now coming down and using the Adizone. We'll be doing things throughout the
whole of the summer for young people. We'll be having Tai Chi sessions here. We plan to have
something for everyone basically for all abilities, all ages, lots of different styles of games and
activities and fun sports. It's open air, anyone can come down at any time. It gives people an
opportunity to have a go at different sports, have a go on a treadmill, have a go on a bike,
have a go at some resistance equipment on the basketball courts, the climbing wall. It's a
fantastic facility and the location couldn't be better so we plan today to showcase the
versatility of the Adizone, to bring some of our performing groups from Gravesham here
to showcase to our guests and to the media exactly what Adizone can do for your community.
We intend to train down here at the Adizone weekends especially in the summer months when
they can get here early before the main people get down in the afternoon and they love every
minute of it at the moment. This place is great because it's in a fantastic location down here
and as I understand a lot of people are to and fro from here always walking past and every time
they walk past this they're going to see pictures of medal winners, they're going to see the Olympic
rings, they're going to see the 2012 logo emblazoned on the equipment and that's going to make them
think you know what I want to go and visit the games, I want to go and support my fellow
countrymen, my fellow Olympians and Paralympians who are going to be competing there.
We are working towards a family-friendly town and it's working. The boys have realised they're
getting a lot fitter but they're enjoying it at the same time, it's not just running around a field.
This facility is fantastic. When I was a child all we had was a wooden swing and a seesaw and a bit
of sand if you was lucky but this is really great. I think the children are going to thoroughly enjoy
it and when there's no other people around I should be having a go. Normally people here just
stay indoors so this will be an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and socialise
and you know keep fit. The added zones are great because they're a nice little facility that's free
to absolutely everyone. It's open 24 hours a day, nothing to pay. It's free. Yeah it's
definitely free, that's the best thing. It's definitely free, 100% free.
I'll point to what I've had a go on. I've had a go on the pedal things. I've had a go on
this one. I'm dying to get on that one but I've not been on it yet.
When nobody's looking I'll have a go on that one.
