WORST Jakob Butturff moments on TV | PBA Bowling Rewind

Jakob Buttdroft has probably the most unusual style of all the players
currently on the PBA Tour. Everything from his drilling which is conventional
to his steps and release is just totally unorthodox. But the crazy part is he's made
it work for him and has been incredibly successful on tour. Now to be fair he's
certainly had more difficulty making shows since the PBA changed its rules on EuroTheme but even
so he's a major winner and has eight titles currently. His wins have been very impressive
however in this video we're going to be looking at the times when things didn't go so well for
him on TV. That's right this is another instalment of my worst ever moments on TV series and one
thing to note is the struggles that he's had during the major telecasts. He's performed so
well over the years to get himself to the telecast of the majors but has fallen short in the title
match six times in major events but we'll get on to that more later on in this video. So we have
four moments to look at today so let's start with number four the 2023 Players Championship.
Jakob Buttroft from Tempe.
7-10. Hey I got a guy in the house who knows how to drop this.
He actually genuinely enjoys competing on the new patterns. He had two 300s this week.
He also had a low of 145 so you know I asked him how do you like that?
And the six good gracious.
7-10. Restrictions on balls he couldn't do that anymore.
He got donned. Responsibly. Maybe put some PBR in those finger holes and
do some chugs for a little win. 7-10 left.
Rep for Brunswick which is the staff that Jakob and Kevin McCune are on.
I knew you were gonna ask that. Oh no open frame again. He's had at least one open frame
in every game. Buttroft made the title match of the Players Championship where he would face
Kevin McCune in a best of five finals. Unfortunately this one wasn't even close
and Jakob really struggled to get going the entire telecast. It would be a 3-0 sweep for McCune
who won every game convincingly to win his first ever PBA title.
The 2018 U.S. Open. Top seed. First shot.
And right out the shoot a bad shot leaves the two and the seven. That wasn't right.
Important. Not good. And once they changed to this to this condition he was unbeatable.
Buttroft. 7-10. 7-10 split. No. Fortunately the seven pin falls. And that was an incredible moment.
He lost in the 2017 U.S. Open title match and was looking to put that right after qualifying as the
one seed in 2018. He would face Don Barrett who might have felt at the time of this match that
luck wasn't really going to be on his side after he left two nine pins but he did make a ball change
after the second and struck in the eighth and ninth and then Jakob almost left a pocket 7-10
in the tenth frame. Dom struck in the tenth and then needed just nine pins to win but left the
four six which meant he needed to take out just one pin. He went for the sixth pin and very nearly
looked to have missed it which would have resulted in a tie and a roll off but he just about grazed
the sixth pin and would take this one by a single pin. A heartbreaker for Jakob after a bad break
in the tenth but of course missing the baby split in the opening frame also cost him this one.
No. 2. The 2019 World Championship. It's ready to explode. Let's see what Buttroft has.
Leaves the seven. One pin is standing again. To the left. A bit harder to get that soft seven out.
Oh no. It comes back. This World Championship was one for the history books as Jason Belmonte
would win his 11th major to move ahead into the all-time lead of major wins. Jakob couldn't deny
Belmonte and it was frame six that cost him. He missed a seven pin and then struck all the way
out for a 227. If he had spared the seven pin he would have bowled a 238 and this would have won
him the title as when Belmonte headed into the 10th he could only max at 237 but as it was
Belmonte needed a strike and a spare and a double in the 10th saw him create major PBA history.
No. 1. The 2021 US Open. What would you do? I'd change everything.
Don't change a thing. Come on. Come on. Roll into it.
In frame ninth. Buttroft up first on the left lane. Oh boy. And the lefty.
Three. Seven. But the nine. Coming off an open frame in the ninth.
Buttroft must have it. One down. By the messenger. Seven in the pit. Needs one more strike for a
for the tie. Got it way in. And he doesn't. Vai wins the US Open.
I chose the 2021 US Open as his worst ever moment as it marked the third time he had lost in the
title match at the US Open. This time it was against Chris Vai. After the eighth frame
Jakob had a one pin lead but the ninth was an absolute disaster. He threw this one way wide
for an open frame. Vai then stepped up and spared in the ninth and tenth but did strike in the
fill shot which was huge as it meant Buttroft needed all three in the tenth to tie. He got the
first two but the last shot was not a good one and it was way inside and he went through the nose
to lose this one by a pin yet again. To lose in three US Open title matches is unbelievable and
fact that two out of the three were by a single pin shows just how close he has come time and time
again and the elusive US Open title still evades him to this day but I'm sure he is still determined
to add the US Open to his title collection one day. And there we have it. Those were what I
thought were Jakob Buttroft's worst ever moments on TV and of course if you disagree let me know
in the comment section below which moments you would have included and as always I'd like to
thank you all very much for watching this video and don't forget to hit the subscribe button below if
you've not done so already. That's going to do it from me and as always thank you bowling fans
and see you all next time.
