In this video, I am going to pull as much weight as humanly possible
across one lap of the pool.
It has to be done in less than 20 seconds
because I am training to set a record in the 50-yard freestyle
this championship meet season.
Under 20 seconds is the goal in that race.
And today is arguably the hardest training day
we are going to have to prepare us to set that record.
We are starting with 100 pounds.
Ready to go.
Oh, get there, get there.
It took me like 18 seconds.
Wasn't that bad.
Now we got to add 10 pounds.
110, approaching my lifetime best.
I've already done my 110-pound effort.
Took me about 17 seconds.
A week or so ago, Blake Perrone did a 140-pounder
in about 14 seconds.
So we'll see how close we can get.
These are 25s plus the 10.
110 pounds.
There it is.
18 seconds again.
Still under 20 seconds.
I don't even have to work.
It just pulls me back.
There's so much weight.
It's just I'm not even kicking.
It's just dragging me.
I'm better when I hold my breath, but I want to breathe.
John is the first one to attempt 120.
Get it, get it.
Oh, yeah.
His stroke is so beautiful.
The gallop is in full effect right now.
Nice.
This next attempt will tie my lifetime record.
Oh, you're cutting it close, dude.
Had to work for it.
Oh, I added like eight strokes, dude, and I went slower.
We can't all be Van and be a world champion in the 50 freestyle.
Typically, when we do resistance sets and we go heavy,
heavy is anything over 80 pounds for a swimmer, I would say.
And usually you only go like 12 and a half yards, maybe 15 meters.
We're going the full 25.
It's a challenge.
It's a long ways.
It's fun.
I think we can stay under 20 seconds,
at least to 130, which will be a personal record for me.
Ladies and gentlemen, the fastest coach on the world championship staff.
Might as well put him on the team, put him on the relay.
Oh, my gosh, he's flying.
Get there, John, get there.
Get in there.
That breath at like 15.
Oh, I've lost all momentum.
The moment you breathe, it's like all your momentum just stops.
OK, let me let me try 140.
Let me try.
This is for all the kids out there.
Make sure you cut out my heavy breathing.
Oh, no, I'm leaving.
They got to know how hard it is.
I made it.
My legs feel like cement.
My arms feel like jello.
It feels like it takes so much longer than 22 seconds.
For reference, for you non-swimmers,
when we sprint one way, 10 seconds is a good time.
We hold 10s, that's good.
11 lows.
We'll make it in there in 22 seconds.
The weight is just chilling above the bench.
Look at that thing.
That is crazy.
Oh, he's going no breath.
Oh, my gosh, he's cooking.
He is flying.
Get there, Ben.
Get there.
15.
He just went seven seconds faster than me.
10 pounds heavier.
That's the difference between
a world class 50 freestyler
and me trying to figure out how to do it.
Oh, yeah.
You're going to feel that for the rest of the week, dude.
Your nervous system is going to go into shock.
I don't think the general audience
can fully understand
or appreciate how hard it is to swim with over 100 pounds.
It's insane.
People are like, oh, it doesn't look that hard.
Because you look at Van, who's an 18 50 freestyle
and you're like, oh, he's going so fast.
It doesn't look that...
It...
I don't even know what else to equate it to.
Cody's feeling a little tired here, but I think he's,
you know, just a little disappointed with his last effort.
So we're going to see a little bit better on this one.
I'm guessing 21 something.
Considering he jumped from under 20 to over 20 and in 20 pounds.
I'm going to give him 24 seconds.
Yes.
Oh, yeah, that felt good.
We both underestimated you.
That was awesome.
Thought it was going to come too easily.
19, yeah.
Yes.
My prediction was terrible.
Cody blasted past it.
Van just had no belief.
425.
Yeah, 24.
Yeah, you just...
150 pounds at 19 seconds.
Yeah, let's go.
We're on track to break 20.
For sure breaking 20 now.
Oh, I've never felt more confident that we're going to go this time.
Five all out efforts.
100, 110, 130, 140, 150.
I feel so accomplished right now.
That was so much fun.
Oh, and now we have to recover.
Going to take a nap, go home, rest, because this afternoon
we are doing a test set, a capacity test set.
I have gained 16 pounds of muscle since the summer,
just from more time in the gym, lifting and focusing on diet.
I've heavily increased my protein intake.
I'm about to eat just straight chicken.
And the biggest help has just been shakes.
These pre-made Jocko Milk shakes are my favorite.
For months, I've kept one or two of these in my swim bag all the time
just to make sure I'm constantly getting that protein intake,
which is how I've been able to gain the proper kind of weight.
Jocko Milk has 30 grams of grass fed protein, the good stuff.
Zero sugar and nothing artificial.
Most importantly, Jocko Milk checks the three primary boxes.
Clean quality ingredients. Check.
It tastes really good.
It's got to be something that I actually want to drink.
And number three, the values of the company.
Jocko Fuel's core tenants really resonate with me.
Hard work, no excuses.
It's not just a slogan that they slap on their products.
It's something that they actually live by.
The founder, Jocko, and everybody that works for the company,
they wake up early, they work hard, and they get things done.
And it's because of that lifestyle and that mentality
that Jocko Fuel has created a truly premium product
that I am proud to promote and love drinking.

And now we are going to head back to the pool
because this is going to be a tough one.
26.2, that's a good start.
Only 19 left.
20 fifties, all fly, on a minute. Best average.
Oh, I forgot to start it.
Let's screw that one up.
Blake P was supposed to be here with me today,
but he decided to sleep in.
Loser. I'm going to beat him.
I'm going to beat him.
Oh, worst finish of my life.
28.2 on that one, Ted.
It's not good.
That is not good.
We're back.
27.5. Yeah.
10 down, 10 to go.
Just don't quit.
I can keep going.
Pain is good, I just keep telling myself that.
We're almost there.
Come on.
Last one, Ted.
Yeah.
Yes, thank you.
20 fifties down.
Tremendous amount of pain.
Going to do a hundred easy swim.
Sit for a few minutes and then max out 150
just to see what the speed is.
Now let's see if we can re-engage the speed
under serious fatigue.
Almost under 24
on my bonus fifties.
A big win.
Big, big win.
I feel good about that.
I feel great about that.
Hard to believe it's already November.
Championship meet season is here.
