If you like how my sunroom turned out, wait until you see my living room. Hey there, Studley.
I guess we should start with Ralph here. Kind of a close cousin to Rudolph,
but not really Rudolph because he's stationary. You know, when I made the decision this last year
to do all white in my home to give the illusion of being up in a ski resort somewhere and it's
just all about the snow and all about the ice. I've done white many times, many times,
but I've never done white without an accent color. In this room, I would say I stuck with white,
but there is an accent and you know what it is? It's black. Black is so, it's such a high contrast
and I loved the fact that I could take this really glamorous looking theme of Christmas
and make it modern. You know that when I first moved here, I'll show you a picture
of what this fireplace used to look like. There was no door on the right hand side of this room
and there was one on the left. I added that door, but the fireplace itself was all white,
but this mantle right here was pink marble. Who knew that you could paint marble? I did.
When I painted the wall, the arched wall black, I decided to paint the whole surround on the
bottom part in black and it's such a striking rich look that I thought, gosh, this incredible
mantle decorated with a garland just set it off. And of course, my diamond lights, right?
Well, bringing Ralph up here in the center and mounting him to this mantle just gave it such
a great focal point. Behind that, I used my broken mirror Christmas tree. If you love this
and you want one for your own home, I have a video showing you exactly how I made this guy
and he's pretty stunning, especially if you have a spotlight to go on him.
These are the ingredients, the individual picks and sprays that were used on the fireplace garland
in my living room. Whenever I did any of my garlands in my home or any of my decorations,
I laid out all of the pieces and parts that went to it. In the event that you want to recreate
something that looks like this, you'll know what pieces I used. Just about everything you see here
is available at the Amber Marie and Company website. So there's a link in the description
box below that'll take you exactly to the page of my living room and my music room,
and you'll be able to see all the items that we show you here today. So we start with this
oversized garland on the fireplace. And my girlfriend Sarah from Wisconsin, she was here
and she did a lot of the garlands and she does all the floral arranging. A lot of people will go to,
let's say, HomeGoods or they'll go to Michaels or they'll go to even Costco and they'll buy a
pre-made garland. Those are fine, and if that's what fits in your budget and in your lifestyle
as time is concerned, great. But if you want to do something that's really a wow, you'll need to
start with a plain garland. I used a heavily flocked garland. There are two garlands. They
start in the middle and they go out. From there, I used picks and sprays. And trust me, there are
so many picks and sprays in this particular garland. It's what makes it unique. Then you'll
see that there are also some twigs that were brought in. Now, these twigs are exactly the
same twigs that I used on the ceiling in the sunroom. So you see that I often repeat a matter,
which ties the rooms together and brings continuity to your decorations. I also ran
through here gorgeous, I think I would call this sort of a mink colored sheer ribbon. But you'll
notice here that this mink colored ribbon ties in so beautifully with the fur pillows that I used in
These are not only gorgeous, but they are so soft and comfortable. It's the best faux fur
I think that's on the market. I actually took the back cushions that go on these chairs,
these chairs come with cushions to make it not such a deep sit. But these are 24 by 24 inch
pillows and they take up that extra room. And oh, is that comfortable. I absolutely love them.
And it gives off again, that wonderful winter feel of being up in the snow, the ski chalet,
right? So now look, Ralph has a pair of friends here. I don't think they're identical. They are
slightly different, but they're black reindeer. And I also got this year, these really cute
drink tables. They're just tiny enough for a drink. You can take your deer and move it off
when you're entertaining. The deer can go over here and visit Jesus and Mary and Joseph. And
there's room for two people to have a drink. You know, this is my main focal point wall. And it's
really important that it is a wow, in my opinion, I want it to be just like your first impression
when you walk into the living room. But on the center here, what's you know, if you've got a
focal point, it's often for me, it's very symmetrical with the walls, the openings of the
doorways into the sunroom, and then this fireplace. What goes dead center? I wanted to make my dead
center be what Christmas is really about for my family. And that is the birth of Jesus.
This is an old world nativity that I've had for years. Now, this is not something that they have
at Amber Marie this year, although they have many other nativity sets. But I just wanted to share
with you what I did. I spray painted these in white and a high gloss white paint. And you may
wonder, well, how in the world? Take a look at this. Look at his hair. I mean, how do you spray
paint this guy? You're going to tape the hound dog out of him in order to do that? I thought about it
for quite some time. And I came up with an idea. And this was my idea. What if I took a paintbrush
and I painted Vaseline on all the parts that I didn't want the paint to adhere to?
So I tried it. And you know what? It worked. Meet my friend Studley. Isn't he amazing? Oh my gosh.
This deer, when it arrived, you know, when you look at things at market, I'm shopping around market,
and I'm, I've got my pictures of my house and where I need to purchase things for what I'm
going to put where. You look at something in a showroom and it's hard for you to really
fully appreciate the size because it's, you're not in your home, right? So when I unboxed Studley
and I saw how big he was, I was like, that's never going to fit on my credenza. But you know what?
I brought him in and I think he looks incredible. I love his oversized look and feel. Do you see
what I'm talking about? In this glossy white finish, doesn't he look much more modern? Now,
if I really wanted to stay fully modern, I would not have put this coat on him,
but I'm kind of a, I fall between modern and glam at the same time.
These picks, this is birch and it's covered in ice. And of course I've used silver and gold
as accents. The fact that Studley is sitting on this credenza in an espresso finish just gives
such contrast and weight and base to what he is going, you know, it's like that contrast of the
black and white again, against the white window treatments, the white paint on the walls.
And I chose to keep with my acrylic lamps down here. These often go back and forth between my
bedroom and my living room, depending on my theme each year. And I decided to keep these here. I
think it's great because it ties in with that broken mirror Christmas tree above the fireplace.
So what I'm doing is I am taking different materials and I'm repeating them throughout
the house. It's what on the design sessions we call repeating the matter. Speaking of the design
sessions, now is a good time for me to tell you that many of you know we have another source for
you. On the design sessions I teach you everything I know about interior design and it is amazing.
What I want you to know is that on the design sessions I have, I want to say, 14, 15, 16 videos
that are dedicated just to Christmas decorating. So if you are someone who feels like you could
use a little extra help, more than what you see here on YouTube, you really want to know exactly
how I create the garlands and the the coats and all the things I do, on the design sessions we
have these videos just for Christmas. Not only could you subscribe to the design sessions and
access those, but we have something called the Christmas Bundle. We created it last year and
thousands of people took us up on it. When you purchase the Christmas Bundle, it's not a
subscription. You own it for a lifetime. I would highly recommend that you look into that. There'll
be a link in the description box below. All right, so listen, Studley, you are doing a great job
holding down the fort here. And speaking of holding down the fort, take a look at what I did
on either side of this credenza. These have a gentle twinkle to them and I think that they're
just very ethereal looking. And how great is it to tie in with Studley, the white and the white
on either side. Again, creating a wall that has huge elements and aspects of symmetry. And you'll
note too that at the base of these trees, I did the same thing that I did in my sunroom by adding
batting. It looks like snow. I added that to the base of the trees and then I sprinkled little
aspects of snow, just individual pieces of snow, not real snow. I just add little bits of individual
pieces of fake snow, which is like a mylar glitter on top. I bought this ladder at Matilda's Mouse
years ago and it's an antique. It's actually a rolling ladder and I never had a place to use it.
I got it for a hundred bucks. That's why I bought it, even though I didn't have a place for it,
because I didn't have ceilings this high in my last house. But it worked perfectly here. So I use
it as a place to put throws. Last year, I made this and I just kept it again this year. I used
crystals, added some tassels to it to put over the top to make it look a little Christmassy.
And then at the bottom, I have this magnificent fur throw that is so cozy and so yummy. It's from
the same company that the pillows are from. This is not the identical pattern as this. I thought
it'd be fun to change it up, but it has the connection of colors in it. I'm really such a nut
for symmetry that this wall has always bothered me because the builder did not put the entry in
the center of the wall. But what do I do? I make up for it with my artwork. This year, I bought
some Christmas art and I have it throughout my house. You'll see it in other videos as well.
But I bought this piece here, heavily snow flocked, and I chose it because of this brick.
Now this brick brings in the brick that's in my sunroom, so it's repeating a surface or a finish.
And it has this rich gold color in it, which allows it, gives it permission to lay nicely
with my two gold panels on either side. But doesn't that give a nice symmetrical look to this
wall? Well, it's important because I go down to my final wall, the fourth wall in the room,
and this one is 100% symmetry, baby. Meet two of the newest members of the Robeson family,
Nut and Cracker. I mean, come on, are those guys amazing? Again, in this very white, glossy,
painted finish. Have you ever seen a Nutcracker look so modern and cool, ever? And as you have
seen already, this white, glossy paint finish being on Studley, on the manger scene, the Holy
Family, and then on my Nutcrackers, it just ties that finish in and looks so snowy, white.
Did I hit it? I think I did. I think these guys are amazing. They're almost five feet tall,
but even at that height, when I put him on the floor, he's not as impressive. Neither of them
are actually the twins. But what I used was, do you guys remember this? I have a pair of
Etageres that go on this wall. And it, again, creates the symmetry on into my music room.
When I went to take them down, to take them up, actually to take them upstairs for storing,
I realized that this cabinet base was actually the perfect size for me to put my Nutcrackers on.
So I used this instead. And it's great because it has storage below for the things that I need for
entertaining during the holiday season. And then you'll see here, over on the side, I just added
to him a clump. Now, it's going to be loud, but you'll see here I used black ribbon. I tied the
pinecones on one to another, to another, to another, to create this cascading effect.
These are gorgeous. They're actually ornaments you can put on your tree. You could use these
in so many things, in your garlands, your staircase. But I thought it would be really
cute to have my Nutcracker just holding a grouping of the pinecones, mirroring that
on either side. You'll notice the one on this side, Nut has his on the left and Cracker has
his on the right, creating a perfectly symmetrical look, which leads into what?
My music room. Let's talk about the bear in the room. Well, I'm happy to report that since the
last time you saw Bruce, he's been up to something. He's been taking piano lessons.
You keep that up, Bruce. Just keep entertaining us. You know, this room is really small. It's
eight feet one direction and 12 the other. Perfect size for a grand piano. Not big enough
for much anything else, but it's right off of my living room and I love the arched opening
that looks into here. So again, the black and white theme that I chose for my living room
this year just came right on into this music room. The thing that is really smashing in here,
besides of course this entry with these trees, is this gorgeous garland. I'm going to show you
on the floor the different elements and the pieces and parts that make up this garland,
because it's a lot more complicated than you would naturally think. This garland that spans across
this 12-foot room is made up of two nine-foot garlands and the garland size, and this is
important, if you plan or you want to get this, there are two garlands that you're going to see.
One of them is a 14-inch spread and the other is an 18-inch spread. They're both nine feet long.
It's a heavily, heavily flocked garland. I used all of the 14-inch size in my house. So that's
what this is. There are two garlands used here. Once we put those up, we ran the cluster lights
through it and then we added picks and sprays. Green picks that have snow on them with pine cones.
Then there are things like branches. Now these branches are amazing. And then last but not least
is this absolutely gorgeous ribbon. This is black, silver, and gold. It's four inches wide
and it has wire on the edges so you can shape it and get it the way you want it,
fishtail it at the end. But look at this magnificent motif that is embroidered into
that ribbon. Yummy stuff and makes such an incredible impression. As we come down here,
we'll see that I use the same kinds of picks and sprays to decorate this gold sphere. A lot of it
is covered but it's a gold stand with a sphere here, one in the middle, and then one on top.
Through that I ran battery-operated fairy lights and I even have a pair of skis to bring in my
theme of the ski chalet and being up in the mountains. And here we have that beautiful
silver glittered branch leaves that I was talking about that I used up here. And quite frankly,
I brought in again down below with little Bruce Jr. He's sitting in amongst a bed of it. I find
that adding the picks and the sprays that create that ultra luxury look for Christmas decorating.
While at market, I was delighted to come across this very vintage looking sheet music that's
actually something you hang on the wall. This one is Silent Night and I got the second one also,
which is Oh Holy Night. And they hang on the walls behind whatever I was going to put here.
That was my plan. I'd create a backdrop because this is my music room. Then I have this beautiful
glitter tree. I think this is probably about 30, maybe 36 inches tall. Comes in other sizes as well.
I think there's an even taller one and a shorter one. But at the base, I put together a grouping
of those same greens, the picks, the sprays, and the gorgeous leaves, including the little silver
bells that I used in my living room. I did the trio of fairy lights over here. Just the three
candles that are, they look like inside. I've shown this to you before. These are fairy lights.
They are battery operated. I believe they're even on a timer. And you just stick them down in there.
You don't even have to have flame. But look how pretty that is. And it shows such a beautiful scene
through that. So I put those together and then I just threw in one of my snowball candles.
Hello. After all, this is, we are in the mountains, right? Bam.
Check out the other one that is mirrored to match this one. Now remember, when I have a pair of
things, I like to mirror them to bring in the symmetry. However, I don't do it exact. So the
thing that's different is one is silent night and the other one is, oh, holy night.
Topping off this entire room and dead center as a focal point in this room is this amazing
light fixture, which I've had for years. It actually used to hang in my office in San Diego.
I just returned from Wisconsin. I was in Rhinelander, Wisconsin with my girlfriend, Sarah,
helping her decorate her log home. It is on the lake. It is a multi-million dollar home.
Absolutely fabulous. And we decorated it for Christmas. That video went up last week. If you
haven't seen it, you must go see that video. It is so good. But we made a custom made light fixture
and it was all inspired by this one. We fashioned a fixture just like this that hangs in her
kitchen. It's all made out of ornaments and it is pretty special. So make sure you go see it.
And I just wanted you to make that connection. So this pretty much wraps it up for my living room
and my music room this year. I hope that you love it as much as I do. I think it is dreamy. I wanted
Christmas to be one of those things where it's a dream. That's why I'm calling it a dreamy white
Christmas. If you're not a subscriber to this channel, please consider doing so. We love it
when you join our posse. We have a lot of fun around here, not only at Christmas time, but
throughout the entire year as we go through our homes one room at a time and make them absolutely
beautiful. Who's your favorite characters in this week's video? Nut, Cracker, Studley, or Bruce.
Oh, and there's also Ralph. All right. Oh, and then there's also Baby Jesus. Yeah. Okay. Well,
I'm going to take off. I've got a date tonight guys, so I have to get out of here. But I hope
that you stay around long enough to watch any videos that you've missed. And remember, I'll be
back here in another couple of days to see you guys. All right. Bye bye. This entire room.
It's a musical room, right? Now let's hear from the bells. Okay.
