Francesco Saverio Geminiani (1687-1762) was a very famous artist in his time. In England, where he settled in 1714, he was even considered to be on a par with George Frederic Handel (1685-1759) and Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713), whose student and heir Geminiani considered himself to be.

In 1725, Geminiani was one of the founders of a Freemason Lodge devoted to music, and its first initiative was to launch a subscription for the transcription (by Geminiani himself) of the first part of Corelli's Opera V (consisting of 12 sonatas) and to turn them into concerti grossi. The campaign was so successful that shortly afterwards Geminiani decided to transcribe the last six sonatas of Opera V, including 'La Follia', a concerto grosso in D minor for two obbligato violins, cello and viola di concerto and two further obbligato violins and bass di concerto grosso, composed in 1729.

La Follia is perhaps the Tuscan composer's best-known work and remains one of his most frequently performed.

The evening atmosphere over Lake Thun in Switzerland was filmed by Christian Schlegel. The video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
