okay welcome welcome to another episode
of beers and budgeting we are going to
be going over September's budget and
drinking some good drinks so join
us hey fam welcome back to the de free
Millennials Channel I'm your host
Justine and this is my husband Kyle what
up every single month we go over our
real income real expenses you know we
don't we don't hide anything we spill
the tea uh MoneyWise yeah but not the
beer but not the
beer what are you drinking today I am
drinking a local beer
Focus Buffalo Sweat from Tall Grass
Brewing Company I think it's actually
made by Witchita Brewing either way this
is from uh Manhattan Kansas where we
went to gr well I went to grad school
just went to undergrad and that's where
we met and so this beer kind of has a
little connection for us and it's nice
and cold outside so we can finally start
drinking the darker beers and I'm
excited for this cuz I've had it a bunch
and it's delicious if you don't live in
the midwest you're missing out on this
beer on some other things I'm so happy
for you um it's it's finally a fall day
right now it's saying it's
63° and when we woke up it was cold
there's Frost outside I am not drinking
you want to know why because it's not a
balloon
we're about 8 months uh cooked
baby
pregnant uh I've got two more months to
go so I do have a little bit of coffee
left over from this morning and I'm
feeling a little chilly so I thought
coffee you've got the Stout you know
what a better time than now to do the
budget yes and we have had a wild couple
of months so let's go over the September
budget first and then we're going to do
another
episode doing this back toback thing
again again again again so let's open up
September's budget this looks a little
bit different than the budget actually a
French word is it budet like fet no oh I
don't know what the french word is for
Budget somebody tell me I can Google it
but B it's let's go over the B
not so this template looks a little bit
different from the other templates that
I we have previous previously used
because this is a super budget template
so you can get all of this imas let's
just throw in some Spanish here with the
super budget template so this is the
actual template and this is what I used
for ours you can purchase this on my
website by using the link in the
description box below it comes with the
super template the simple template to
get you started student loan tracker
credit card debt tracker savings tracker
we've got one for your car loan all the
good things all of these sheets in one
single file I'm really really proud of
this so I said let's start using this
guy for September I just kind of knocked
out the to-do list up at the top but
where do you want to start at the top at
the top well first did we make budget
start there okay so we planned on
bringing in 12,000 we brought in
12,640 Bucks we have a net left over of
600 and some bucks from the plan from
the plan but from the actual got 1,500
bucks mhm left over yep okay good yay so
we had 1488 left over in the month at
the beginning of September we took a
trip to Estus Park so for My Best
Friend's Wedding super fun that was a
good time we also ended up having to
change our license plates and driver's
license over from California to Kansas
that was such a sad
day yes we are we are morphing back into
midwesterners so there you go we had a
road trip to Manhattan Kansas where we
attended a K State football game it was
so fun we went car shopping yes we did
we will update you on that you got to
wait for the next episode oh boy and
what else what else you had a work trip
we figured out you know the tuition bill
for preschool is built every Monday we
also added a $50 monthly gymnastics fee
to the budget for Quinn she started that
and then about
$1300 goes into all home upgrades that
includes money set aside for property
taxes homeowners insurance HOA fees and
any major home upgrades that we are
doing which Kyle had worked on a lot of
stuff yeah in September and in October
but let's take a look at the rest of our
spending I don't know why preschool says
1455 it was actually oh there was just a
week difference so some some months are
going to be different than others
because it's build on a weekly basis so
yeah cuz sometimes there's five weeks or
a fifth Monday or whatever you call it
mhm
$215 in electric
I think that also includes gas uh water
was
$147 we found out that water we're build
from two different entities we're build
from the County Wastewater Treatment
Plant and we're build by the actual
water company for water coming in and
then the Wastewater going out who knew
and it's buil every other month so this
seems high to us cuz we're like what we
used $147 in in the month but it's
actually divided by 2 7350 makes sense
we have a lawn now I know we're not used
to it I hate Lawns we're not used to it
let's see what else we had a lot of
these sinking funds that we put
together oh groceries so I budgeted $700
for groceries we spent $
388 you want to know why because we had
a major Costco Hall in August oh it'll
be different for October that seems to
be what we normally do is like every
other month we go to Costco and then
you're like the budget's crazy and then
the next month it's like super low and
then mhm yeah let me look at what it was
for August
7:46 including a Costco run y so yeah
388 Home Improvements I had put $500
towards this we spent
624 uh why does that say Amazon bait
stations and beit take that
off what it was for it was for for Pest
Control oh it must have copied over from
the old one uh
$624 on Home Improvements and so
actually what I did is down here you can
see all of the different types of
spending that we had sprinkler repair
sprinkler repair that was the big one
500 bucks to repair the sprinkler forgot
about that don't get me started on that
my cousin and I spent all day working on
that thing replaced like half of the
valve
had to figure things out parts were
broke that we didn't know were broke so
there was like troubleshooting a part
that couldn't be troubleshot and all
because the previous owners just didn't
take care of the place mhm and then
didn't let us know that they didn't take
care of the place like they could have
just been like hey we haven't used a
sprinkler system in a while May checked
out that would have been nice to know
mhm the home inspection that we got the
guy said he didn't cover sprinklers
don't get me started on how anyways so
that was the major culprit for Home
Improvement and repairs for for
September we did really great on
restaurants um shopping was like right
on par we've got a sinking fund for that
fun money we did really great on it's
like honestly everything here looks
really good in the fun money spending I
oh I added your work expenses you had
about $1,000 I feel like that's the norm
for you now is around $1,000 Dollar in
work trip expenses between a rental car
and a hotel in food yeah it's usually
like three nights that I do that seems
about right M and then we contributed to
our home upgrades fund home okay so the
difference between home upgrades and
Home Improvements repairs Home
Improvements and repairs are like the
monthly things that we're doing you
going to Home Depot I'm sure they know
you on a first name basis now you
probably know them those little the the
repairs and the improvements where it's
like we got to patch a a piece of
drywall we've got a
get paint for this trim or whatever home
upgrades are the big projects where
we're paying
contractors um other we haven't done any
of that are you yeah home upgrades would
be the big stuff I'm also putting in
home upgrades like if we want to buy big
appliances or Furniture things like that
those are the bigger bigger things we
also contributed money to
the car fund vacation fund we spent
money out of because of Colorado so I
need to transfer that out of the
vacation fund and then we haven't set up
baby number two's college fund yet I
feel that's kind of a back burner thing
but honestly it's just like let's just
get it started I'll let you do that yeah
we don't have to send both kids to
college we could just do one oh my gosh
could you imagine they may not go to
college College may be so unobtainable
by the time they're of age to go they're
like why I think we'll see a big rapid
change in education I could Soap Box
this all day mhm but I won't for your
sake
cool thank God so a quick little review
I love seeing this little chart for the
super template as you can see how much
of our money has broken down into
different categories so it's showing
32.3% going towards debt debt is our
mortgage so that is our mortgage 32% of
our total take-home is going towards our
our housing so that's actually right on
par with what we typically see for
housing payments is anywhere between
like 25 28 to 35 if you if you're over
35% of your payment going towards living
like cost of housing then you either
live in a really high cost of living
area or you're you're paying too much
for house I love this I love this little
table right here I think that's it for
September honestly it went by fast
September yeah yeah we did two trips
Colorado K State we had home repair
projects and we went car shopping so the
extra money what we going to do with it
I know what I want to do with it what do
you want to do with it I think it needs
to go towards home upgrades oh without a
doubt home upgrade slome repair mhm um
you want to tell the kids what you want
to do with the home upgrades home repair
I want an office kind of wants an office
so we have this we have an extra living
room space off of our master and it kind
of creates the way it's laid out that it
creates a weird I don't know Nook in our
hallway too so I want to take that Nook
in the extra living room area and wall
that off and make it into a another
bedroom that I will use as an office
that would be like a small bedroom which
is like the perfect size for an office
because right now like we both work from
home so we both need to have offices
that aren't next to each other so we're
not competing on calls and filming yeah
you know I'm on a call and she's filming
and she's hearing me make terrible jokes
to my co-workers that she'll laugh at in
her videos so you know can't have any of
that M that's what I want to do um
there's also the big dirt project out
back do you want to say that one for
next video I mean yeah the the yard is
just another a whole other animal I'm
looking at it right now it's just like
it's a nice rock quarry it's a it's a
rock quarry but I I agreed with you on
the home office thing because he had his
home office in the guest bedroom and
then we were talking about okay when
baby arrives we're going to have like
your mom come down and help and so we
want Out of Towners to feel comfortable
like my best friend is going to come
down and help we want her to have her
own room without Kyle like being like
can I come in and work yeah so I did get
that in a sense and he's right our
bedroom was massive when we initially
toured this house and we went into the
primary bedroom we're like oh my whoa
what is this extra bonus space this is
crazy felt like sleeping in an
auditorium compared to what we had in
California it's massive and so we
actually brought our real back over that
was your idea and we said hey what do
you think if we turn this into an office
but later on down the road do you think
this would still have buying potential
to show this as like a another bedroom
yeah so if we make it a legal bedroom
cuz it has a window in there it has a
window put a closet and a smoke detector
and that's all you need mhm so that's
what we want to do and I'm going to do a
lot of it myself you have yeah well we
can save it for the
next
yeah yeah but that's a project it is I'm
looking forward to seeing it
completed it looks real
sweet real real sweet real nice real
nice real nice Clark okay name that
movie name that movie I feel like we've
done we did the How I Met Your Mother
reference in the last episode which hey
new best
friends we're actually re-watching that
now um I think that's it yeah
1488 Home Improvement home upgrades
upgrade upgrade name that
movie all right sign off let these
people get back to their lives we're
just going to say random words and
phrases and be like name that movie did
I catch a Niner in there name that
movie all right oo short and sweet I
love this one okay we will catch you in
the next episode where we're going to be
going over October's budget as we get
closer and closer to the holidays not
only the holidays but also welcoming our
second baby hooray so exciting we'll
catch you in the next one
