I thought it was a powerful as well, Tom, don't worry.
Lacroix.
Back pin.
Oh, what a shot.
Frédéric Lacroix.
250 yards.
Ideal.
Wonderful opener for Romain.
Likes to play with a fade.
Some free equipment there, David.
It was just something that Adam told Jamie and I when we saw him in Avid Avi.
Preparation, David.
McKibben.
In you go.
Well, there's a way to make a birdie.
Mind you, it's sitting up nicely, wasn't it?
It was all there for him, really, but lovely shot.
Adam Scott.
Third shot at number two.
Excellent.
How brave would you be today, Ken, here?
What's the play?
Well, he's gone a little bit long and left,
but Langasky's a bit of a cavalier at times
and peppers it straight down the flag.
Not much margin of error.
The flag on six, but if you put it at all,
it carries a bit longer over the water.
Third shot.
Cut it into the flag and well played.
A bit of grain into you there, so the ball grabs in very quickly.
Just a short time.
He looks simple, doesn't he?
So, so simple.
That's very unlucky.
That didn't just release forward a fraction.
Quickly to Tyrrell Hatton at the first.
So, Jamie Spence, get around,
and I will leave you in the very capable hands of Alison Whittaker.
Can he read it?
We've seen one or two dangling out to the left.
It's dangling, but just the perfect pace.
Every time I've seen him this week, he's been wearing a smile.
From there, that's pretty good.
Getting better and better.
Just going to make sure you stay on top of the ball
and driving it low to find that right pin position.
Never left the flag.
Just as Nico said, just drilling in a fraction.
Quality shot.
Sweetly struck.
Down the slope for Tommy.
Lives here, plays here.
Easy.
First birdie of the week for Fleetwood.
It's good on the last two.
Keita Nakajima.
His second.
Head of the national program in Japan.
Calls him the Rolls Royce of golfers
in terms of their next generation coming through.
Shots like that.
You understand why.
Already a winner this season in India.
And an eagle look coming as well.
Look how left-sided he is.
He's almost on tiptoes on his right foot.
To make sure he stays on it.
Great shot.
Perfect.
A lot of bunker raking going on on the fourth.
For the caddies.
Wearing up the hill.
Fifth.
Pin tucked.
Top right.
Exactly there.
Come on, Paul.
Amazing scenes on the 17th to five.
Hatton.
No need to tap anything down there
once the ball goes in the hole.
That's a perfect flag to get to
with a win off the right.
Just a controlled little wedge thing.
One of the very best we've seen so far today.
This ball will feed back to the pin.
And behind it if he can get it there.
Five or six yards of space.
Short is the mistake from here.
Good eye, Dick.
Let's head over to Adam Scott.
Yeah, par 5, 14th.
Kip, we've been seeing a lot of people
struggling out of the rough today.
Some of the strongest players in the world
just hacking wedges.
Have you found the same thing?
It looks really deep.
Yeah, it is definitely the most challenging rough
I've ever played out of.
It is just lob wedge for me.
When I went in there and then just
try to hit it close on the third shot.
Should be a tremendous eagle.
Little from his right hand side.
And in she goes.
Yellow number.
Comes on to the scorecard for Adam Scott.
Simple shot for Billy here.
There you go.
Give him an easy one, you can attack him very often.
That's what the best will do.
Trying a little cut in here with a three wood.
Been on the right.
Oh, what a shot.
Antoine Rosner.
Take a bow.
Straight in the middle for McElroy.
Super stuff.
Goes to three under.
Well, can he get underneath this sufficiently and stop it?
Of course he can.
That's brilliant.
From Waring.
Matt Wallace.
Found the fairway.
First job done on 16.
Pretty generous pin at the back here.
Back center.
Keep going.
Well, they've got some release on it.
That's what we've seen really.
Super shot.
Yeah, third shot for Waring.
In the rough off the tee.
Stunner.
Right at it.
He's playing some stunning stuff.
For Waring.
After that victory last week.
And there he is in the red.
The burgundy.
Takes it up top.
Very good.
Should get a little bit closer.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Well thought out shot that.
Wasn't it just?
Moment of genius from Wallace.
Straight, straight putt.
No break on that.
There's his fans.
Not so many birdies here today.
Can the Italian find one?
Oh, he can.
The dream comeback year continues for Matteo.
Second birdie on this hole.
David.
Material from the perfect position down 16.
It's just a wedge of 50 degree wedge.
It's bread and butter stuff.
Now wearing.
I'm just about the similar distance.
This is just a snack for these guys on 16.
They're eating it up as well.
Rasmus for birdie on 16.
Up and down day for him.
And there's an up.
Goes into the red.
201 today, 17.
One of the most recognizable par 3 on tour.
It's so difficult to find that back strip of the green.
Yes, about the best we've seen, to be honest.
Tracking.
Right in the heart of the hole.
Tyrrell moves to the top of the board.
Just magnificent.
Got a few yards left of that, but that never again left the pin.
The crisp sound it made as he struck it.
Delightful.
Actually, a good chance.
He must have had this dozens of times over the years.
Oh, it did go.
It went right into the hole.
Plenty of people there cheering him on.
What a great putt for McElroy.
He joins Hatton at the top.
Yeah.
Just had a feeling he was going to hit a cracker there.
The second shot deserved a good third.
That's exactly what he's found.
It tried its very best.
Instead, he'll go into tomorrow with company at the top of the leaderboard.
That of Tyrrell Hatton.
Finished about half an hour ago.
67s for each.
Thanks for joining us.
Came into the week off a win in the second place.
We've talked about how well you were playing.
Just how pleased with you with today's round?
To be honest, I feel like the score was better than it felt.
I felt like I was kind of tinkering over most tee shots.
At times, I felt like my misses were bigger than perhaps they have been
over the last month or so, month and a half.
By the end of the day, to shoot five under,
you have to, I guess, play fairly solid golf.
In my head, I don't really know what that is, but here we are.
We're used to seeing scores in the low 60s, mid 60s here,
and a lot of them on day one.
Obviously, not this year.
What is making it so difficult out there?
There's probably a few things.
I don't know how the weather's been over here,
but the greens are definitely slower than they have been in the past,
which, because they're slower,
the grain probably takes the ball a little bit more,
so then they don't roll maybe as good as they have done previously.
The fairways are a little bit weird as well.
I know the roughs up, which if you do miss the fairways,
then it's hard, but the fairways are quite awkward to play off.
Even now on the last of it, a nice wedge shot,
and I've got a flyer off the fairway.
You're not really playing for that,
so I think you need a little bit of luck
in terms of how we expect our distances to be,
and I guess it's not quite coming off as we think.
67 is a great start. Thanks for your time.
Thank you.
