Let's learn about the UK with a focus on London. London is the capital city of England and it is also the biggest city in England. It has over 8 million people that live there. Can you name this tourist attraction? It's the London Eye. The London Eye is a huge ferris wheel that took seven years to build. Can you name this building? It's Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarch. Can you name this building? It's Big Ben. Big Ben is the name given to the huge bell in the clock at the top of the houses of Parliament. Can you name this building? It's the Gherkin, also known as 30 St Mary Axe. The Gherkin is a modern skyscraper right in the centre of London. Do you know the name of this church? It is St Paul's Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the largest churches in the world with a dome 366 feet high. Can you name this building? It's the Shard. Currently in 2022, the Shard is the tallest building in London and a huge 310 metres tall. Wow! Can you name this building? It is Westminster Abbey. Westminster Abbey is a large church in central London. The Abbey is used to crown British monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth II. It also hosts lots of royal weddings. Do you know the name of this place? It is Trafalgar Square. Trafalgar Square is the home to Nelson's Column, the National Gallery, beautiful fountains, four plinths, four lions and a whole lot of pigeons. Do you know the name of this bridge? It is Tower Bridge. Tower Bridge connects the north and south side of London over the River Thames. The central part of the bridge can be raised to allow ships to pass underneath.
