Conserving a Delicate Renaissance Drawing

#AntiqueRestoration"Watch to see how our paper conservators worked on repairing and cleaning a design for a candelabrum. Join us as we embark on a fascinating journey to conserve a stunning 16th-century drawing attributed to the renowned Italian artist Marco Marchetti.
This delicate artwork, from the late 1500's, once hidden beneath layers of dirt and damage, is brought back to life through meticulous conservation techniques.
Put onto a wash mount during the reign of George III, the drawing was folded into an album, which over time has caused instability. Using different techniques including magnification, our conservators cleaned off centuries of accumulated dirt and grime, repaired and flattened the damaged areas toning them in with chalk pencils."
