Sky Light Gallery - 2024 IALD Award of Merit

The gallery provides a prototype for a new form of exhibition space that controls the amount of natural light entering the room according to the type of exhibit. Instead of simply blocking the natural light outside, the design takes excess light reaching the floor and walls and merges it with the skylight system, creating a gallery interface that is dynamically expressive in terms of pattern, color temperature, and intensity, while maintaining visual communication with the sky, and retaining the presence of nature in the indoor space.

The 2024 IALD International Lighting Design Awards was celebrated in a San Diego, California, presentation event. Twenty-eight projects from ten countries were recognized and applauded for demonstrating exceptional lighting design and contributing to the professional community.

Now in its 41st year, the IALD International Lighting Design Awards is the longest-running program that recognizes architectural lighting design excellence. Receiving an IALD award is universally heralded as the top honor in the lighting design industry. Since its inception in 1983, the IALD International Lighting Design Awards has honored lighting design that reaches new heights, moves beyond the ordinary, and represents excellence in aesthetic and technical design achievement.
