The Tale of Tsar Saltan is an opera in four acts and prologue (seven scenes altogether) by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The libretto, based on the 1831 poem of the same name by Alexander Pushkin, was written by Vladimir Belsky. The opera was composed in 1899-1900 to coincide with the centenary of Pushkin's birth and premiered in 1900 in Moscow, Russia.

The most famous piece in the opera is the instrumental interlude Flight of the Bumblebee. It is often performed as a concert piece in its own right.

It is one of the few pieces of classical music that makes me more nervous than before I listen to it. I know it is famous and certainly difficult to play. But I still like classical music when it gives me a place to relax. Well, this piece is not really relaxing, and I would like to apologise for it, as I would like our channel to be an oasis in our hectic daily lives. I really hope you like it anyway.
