American model, Kendra Spears, and Prince Rahim Aga Khan, who got married in 2013,
becoming one of the world's most stunning royal couples. Well! Prince Rahim is the son of Sarah
Frances Croker, who, like Kendra, was also a model and married into royalty. The Aga Khan family has
a long history of marrying beautiful models and actresses. For instance, Aly Aga Khan, Karim's
father, wedded the American movie star Rita Hayworth. However, their marriages often ended in
divorce, as was the fate of Rita Hayworth, Sarah Frances Croker, Kendra Spears, and many others.
Sarah Frances Croker-Poole was born in New Delhi, India, in 1940. Her parents were Lieutenant Arthur
Eric Croker Poole and Jean Margaret Watson. When she was six, Sarah moved back to Britain with her
family, initially residing on their estate in Berkshire before settling in London. In 1958,
Sarah was introduced to high society, this was part of a tradition called debutante
ballsShortly after, Sarah married Lord James Crichton-Stuart, the youngest son
of the fifth Marquess of Bute. However, their marriage ended in divorce just two years later.
For several years after, Sarah worked as a model and was photographed by renowned photographers
of her time. She was featured in cosmetics advertisements and modeled, earning an impressive
income of £80,000 per year, a substantial sum back then. Sarah also appeared in several TV
commercials, including one for Pond’s Cold Cream. Working as a model opened up great opportunities
for Sarah not only to earn money but also to meet the most influential people in the world. At a
party in London, she met His Highness Karim Aga Khan. The two hit it off quickly and soon decided
to marry. Karim Aga Khan or Shah Karim al-Husayni is the 49th and current Imam of Nizari Ismailis,
and the Spiritual leader of the fifteen million-strong Ismaili Muslim community. He
traces his lineage directly to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The titles Prince and Princess are used
by the Aga Khans and their children as they trace their ancestry to the Iranian royal dynasty.
Karim has held the position of Imam and the title of Aga Khan since 11 July, 1957,
when he succeeded his grandfather, Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan the third. Besides his
spiritual duties, he's a prominent business figure with a fortune worth billions of dollars,
ranking him among the wealthiest royals globally. Sarah and Karim tied the knot on October 22,
1969, in a lavish ceremony held at Karim Aga Khan's residence in Paris. The extravagant
event was attended by over 800 guests, including notable personalities like Princess Margaret of
Britain. The bride and groom were adorned in traditional Muslim attire and appeared
genuinely happy. Sarah wore a rich white silk sari adorned with golden thread,
while Karim donned a cream-colored suit with officer's collars. Their nuptials drew worldwide
media attention. Following the wedding, Sarah converted to Islam, adopted the name Salimah, and
assumed the title Her Highness The Begum Aga Khan. The couple lived in France, spending summers in
Sardinia and winters in Switzerland with Europe’s high society. Princess Salimah had to give up her
modeling career fully immersing herself in her new role as the wife of the Aga Khan. She dedicated
herself to accompanying her husband on his journeys and aiding him in charitable endeavors,
clad in traditional attire. Her compassion, warmth, and grace garnered widespread admiration.
A year following their wedding, they welcomed their first child, Princess Zahra. Followed by a
son, Prince Rahim, a year later. And another son, Prince Hussain, three years afterward. Publicly,
Karim and Salimah were viewed as a perfect couple and served as role models for many. However,
beneath Salimah’s smile, there was hidden pain. Over time, Karim Aga Khan began to
adopt his father’s lifestyle. Aly Khan was known for his playboy image, often seen with the most
beautiful actresses and aristocratic women, and that’s why his father Aga Khan the Third made his
grandson Karim his heir instead of him. By 1984, Karim and Salimah were rarely
seen together. Salimah couldn’t tolerate infidelity. While Karim resided in France,
she lived in Switzerland. It became evident to everyone that divorce was inevitable. However,
Karim chose to wait until their children reached adulthood before finalizing the decision. In 1995,
after 25 years of marriage, the couple officially divorced. Despite the separation, Salimah retained
the title of Princess but lost the designation of Her Highness. She engaged in a legal battle
with Aga Khan to retain possession of her jewels, most of which were personal gifts. Eventually,
she won the battle, and many of the jewels were auctioned by Christie’s in 1995, generating over
$27 million. As per Salimah's wishes, the proceeds were used to establish a charitable foundation.
Since then, Princess Salimah has dedicated herself to child welfare activism and has become a
prominent supporter of the charity SOS Children’s Villages, serving as its first International
Ambassador. Alongside her charitable endeavors, she has extended assistance to Afghan refugees and
traveled worldwide to support communities near and far, even receiving a warm welcome from the Dalai
Lama in 2000. Today, at 84 years old, Princess Salimah resides in Switzerland and London,
where she maintains an apartment to remain close to her family. Her eldest child, Princess Zahra,
is 53 years old. In 1997, she wedded British businessman and former model Mark Boyden,
but their marriage ended in divorce shortly thereafter. Prince Rahim, aged 52, married
model Kendra Spears in 2013, but their marriage also ended in divorce. Her youngest son, Prince
Hussain, is 49 years old. In 2011, he married an American woman whom he met during graduate school,
but they later divorced. Princess Salimah was only allowed to attend Prince Hussain's
wedding among all her children's marriages. Karim Aga Khan married for a second time in
1998 to German princess Gabriella Leiningen, who was twenty-seven years younger than him.
The couple had a daughter but they broke up in 2004 after six years of marriage. Their separation
led to a decade-long legal battle over a divorce settlement, during which Gabriella accused Karim
of infidelity with an air hostess. In 2014, a French court ruled in favor of Gabriella, ordering
Aga Khan to pay a £50 million settlement to his ex-wife. If you've noticed, almost none of the
Aga Khan Family members have been able to sustain their marriages, as they all ended in divorce.
