Hi, I'm Frank Lampard and this is my collection.
Absolute classic World Cup, the boot that I loved wearing early in my career
and in those days you had to pull the tongue over and train it to stay down. It's a classic boot
I just grew up loving watching players wear and then got the beauty of the luxury of being able
to wear it myself. So an early boot in my Chelsea career predominantly I remember.
At Swansea? Wow, that goes back even further than I imagined. As I say I grew up using this
through wearing through the academy, wearing World Cups to training Copa Mundials, playing
World Cups for the old studs and yeah, great memories and I think it's such a classic boot
that for all that the boots have moved on for good reason, this one still is one that
emotionally pulls on your football heartstrings. It's a special boot. I think it was just probably
as I say I'd seen so many great players wear it and I remember watching World Cups as I was younger
with players wearing this boot and it was for me it was the tongue, the way that we could flip over
the tongue, the simplicity of the boot, the way it used to fit. I remember soaking this boot in
hot water, you know, wearing them, getting it tight and letting them stretch and I just loved
wearing the boot. It was amazing. Yeah, special boot in history I would say.
Yeah, I would train sometimes in you know old-fashioned like
moulds as we would call them back in the day in hard ground which I felt more comfortable
with in training but what I felt was that the World Cup with the studs was better for
gameplay. Felt like I was almost when I put these on I knew I was playing a proper
match whereas I would train in Copas as well which obviously very similar to look at pretty
much identical boot to a degree but with the obviously the hard ground studs as we'd say now.
Yeah, I think players, I certainly think players now even you get comfortable and
confident in the boot that you love, you know it fits you well. You know the feel of it, you love
the look of it. So why change? I've just got very, very used to wearing it so it was, as I say,
a boot that reminds me of my youth.
Yeah, memories of coming through at West Ham as a West Ham fan as a kid.
To be able to play for the club you supported all those years. I remember the nerves of playing
and I remember wearing this boot. This boot kind of followed me through those first steps of my
career. Getting my nose into the West Ham team, getting more confident, getting into the England
team, feeling nervous wearing the World Cup. So yeah, as I say, like consistency is a big thing
as you're coming through. There are enough challenges trying to get on the ladder as a
young footballer and as I say this boot was the one that lived with me through that period.
I remember really well being a youth team player at West Ham. Having a dream of being in the first
team and I remember the team used to go up on the wall very old-fashioned now on the Friday
afternoon in the squad and being in the squad. I remember the feeling of pride of managing to
make that step. It felt like the biggest thing I always wanted to do and it was a very special
moment. Full of nerves but obviously excitement as well but it meant that you'd sort of accomplished
step one on the ladder. I'm still wearing that boot for my England debut. Same nerves, same
feeling as when you start for West Ham for the first time? I think you grow into yourself as
you become a professional player but you cannot ever underestimate what playing for England does
to you in terms of your emotions. I think it was especially that first cap. It's something that
you always have an absolute dream of as a child but then when you actually get called up to the
squad, go and stand amongst characters, looking around players that you really look up to and
understand the size of what playing for your country means to represent, that was the thing
that really sort of then hits home. I'm still in my World Cups at that point, being a nervous young
man but very proud. This is a really special boot for me. My first Predator, having moved from World
Cups into Predators, I'd always pretty much worn a black boot. I've always been so completely
invested in the World Cup and I wore this on an evening at Stamford Bridge. It was one of my first
Champions League games. I was nervous to change boots because I like the consistency of wearing
the World Cup but I scored a goal that evening from just outside the box in this boot and I
never looked back and for a long period became a Predator player. This was a boot that was a big
part in changing the change of my career probably and it really started to sort of lift upwards at
Chelsea but I think instantly the shape of the boot fitted me really well. It was a real comfort
factor to it and obviously being able to wear with the design of the boot and the idea of being
able to work on the power of your shooting and being able to get a bit more sometimes a bit more
whip on your strikes with the design of it was something that I sort of really bought into
and also I love the colour, simple terms. It was nice to have a change, it felt really
really good on the foot and yeah it was just an all-round comfort about the boot.
This is as I say emotionally a really big boot for me because as I say it did feel like
I've made a big step in my career on that night and Predator was part of that. I would have been
very aware of other players wearing the Pred as we'd say and I would have been sort of
not kind of like enviously but like inquisitive like should I change because as I say I'm sometimes
I was setting my ways probably at the time. I remember opening the box into Stamford Bridge
in the dressing room before the game and kind of putting a Predator on going back to the World Cup
putting a Predator on and then obviously I decided to go with a boot and it was probably just a sign
of actually me gaining my own confidence as a player you know to change a little bit having
seen other players wearing this boot and yeah as I say probably helped that I had a good performance
and I scored a goal and from then on as I say this became very close to me.
Yeah it certainly did because I think this is always this was always a very innovative boot
you know it was always changing in terms of moving forward. I'd seen the early Predator
and how this it evolved into this boot at the time the different colour schemes and all those
things at that time we're talking quite a few years ago now so it felt very ahead of the game
so everyone would have been interested in this boot and yeah it was a good moment to put it on.
Absolutely I think the tongue on the design is one of the beauties of the Predator.
For me I had the comfort of knowing versus the World Cup we had to fold it down sometimes it
would flick up the comfort of knowing it would stay it was always good something I liked
and I just I love the look of it it felt a very comfortable boot to look down and I thought I
just think it's a beautiful football boot and it absolutely sort of was in sync with me in a way
in terms of the comfort feeling just feeling comfortable in what you're wearing.
Yeah so got a picture of playing for Chelsea in the boot here well it's not it's not a goal
scoring moment to be fair but this is in the Chelsea away kit so again this was 2004, 2003,
2004 I'd estimate and again it was just to say it was just involved I never I never said this
sounds a bit sort of not big-headed but I never really looked back once I started wearing this
boot it sort of changed my thought process about boots and what I want to wear and when the every
time the colouring changed and all those things it was a huge interest to me but in terms of the
style of the boot I was very much in the Predator family at that point. I think a lot of players
will say the same you get comfortable in a boot but also you do breed confidence and be able to
wear it and train in it and get used to it and as a probably a goal scoring midfielder the idea of
getting power behind my shots and you know you have to have a confidence in the boot that you're
wearing for that also in the endurance factor being a midfielder there's a lot of movement
you're active all the time it's the last thing you want to think about so yeah it's absolutely
Beautiful boot I remember this I'm going to check the photo
yeah it's the boot I thought of just checking there was in the Euros my first competitive
goal for England at finals scored against France in the first game scored a few goals
in that tournament and this was a great boot we were at the time great colour
obviously always a fan of this version of blue that it is but again just a great boot with lots
of fond memories for me it was a good tournament for me with my breakthrough tournament really of
getting into the squad that year so I was pretty pretty nervous in stepping up and you feel that
the pressures of a tournament in a good way I remember the amount of England fans that traveled
out to watch games followed us and we were in a good role as a team personally went well for me
wearing this boot scored a few goals unfortunately for us we didn't get as far as we want but again
this was a point in my career where I was sort of moving pretty quickly got into the international
team and starting to feel more confident about myself and I think at that point as well now with
a boot like this you're sort of connected to the boot people watch you play a lot watch you maybe
performing in those high level games and trying to score goals and things and yeah special memories
I think tournament football is an amazing feeling of highs and lows at times
and that specific tournament we felt like we were in with a real chance of winning we got
to the quarterfinals we were playing pretty well and then we lost on penalties which was
you know losing getting knocked out of tournaments is one of the hardest things to do as a professional
player so yeah very tough very tough dressing room afterwards I think that the good thing about
football is that those moments are really tough but as you get older and you look back at these
things there's still fantastic moments within that you're always very proud to play for your country
so yeah but tough moments at the time for sure
and from that we have the new versions and based off in terms of colour scheme I just think this
is an incredible boot now the differences to feel is definitely the the weight it's a lightweight
version of the boot but you still get that fantastic look the fantastic little tongue
the colour scheme of it the typical predator that we're so aware of with the grooves here
but yeah a really light boot I would have loved to have worn this shows you how much boots have
evolved here but this is really special I think it's beautiful absolutely beautiful and then you
can see you put them next to each other you can see the comparison of them but yeah very special now
I'm envious I'm envious of this I'm absolutely envious I would have loved to have been able to
play in this and you know I've I have been fortunate enough here to try it on the comfort
of it and the lightweight nature is very as a player you're always looking for that you're
always looking I was certainly for that little edge of having something that's lightweight and
that you're really confident in because it's about you know being agile and being feeling
that you're sharp in a game particularly in the area of the pitch that I used to play in
that's a special boot and it looks beautiful to the eye which is always a great thing
that's definitely what I'll be wearing
so beautiful blue colour this is a really special boot in my memory of playing and
one of the biggest occasions in my career happened in this boot
which is very relevant to this picture yeah we won the league at Chelsea in this boot
played at Bolton scored two goals the day we won it and two nil and again it was a really
important season for me played regularly you know the team was playing really well again very
comfortable in the boot that I'm wearing feeling established actually wearing the Predator now and
being able to perform on it and you know I think obviously as Chelsea wearing our blue kit at the
time this was absolutely perfectly time for myself and just a fantastic boot with some
special memories I think it might have been luck actually at the time I'd like to think I wasn't
too high maintenance I had trust in adidas producing great boots and you understand that
the colour scheme sometimes change and sometimes there are options and sometimes it's nice to come
away from blue I felt as well to wear different colours but yeah it was I did like the way that
the flow of wearing a blue boot with the kit and again it's just the comfort and as I said I was
getting more you know just used to wearing a Predator at this time and playing so many games
per season and again when you obviously have success with your team in a boot you know it's
they're good times basically I think I was developing as a player but I was also lucky to
be in a squad that was developing the club that was developing bringing in some fantastic players
adding to the players that we already had we were very hungry as a group so we managed to win the
league as I say after many years we had a fantastic manager in Jose Mourinho who pushed us and brought
in a different mentality so you know I'm talking about myself and my boot here I was absolutely
surrounded by top players and we managed to start winning and get that feeling for winning
regularly and yeah the individual accolades that come with it that year individually were great
but as always with these things you look back and you remember and I've goosebumped memories of
winning the league that day wearing this boot those are very special that do stay with you
feel very fortunate to have had them moments. Have you got a favourite season you played in?
It's that season certainly up there it was individually a good season for me and probably
my first season I think I reached 20 goals that season and we won the league which we'd all been
aiming for for two or three seasons before that realistically to try and win
that was also I also had a good season later on in my career and 2010 was a really
sort of personally big season for me in terms of output and in terms of the squad and the way we
were playing and when we won the league with Carlo Ancelotti it was a big year for me I think
personally but yeah this step was certainly up there.
Another beauty in terms of the colour scheme loved wearing blue as I speak about a lot
became my favourite colour probably in my career from associates from Chelsea but I love the blue
and the white a bit of extra white on this boot and I was a big fan of it at the time in terms
the aesthetics of it and as you can see that the boot's developing itself a little bit and the
product was changing really in terms of its style but still keeping the real basics of it which I
loved at the time so this was again another great boot I think it's probably following on from the
last boot that I looked at before in terms I think we had another successful season team
were playing well and I'm myself very comfortable in the boot. Maybe around this time that boot
started to get customised so I always remember having my daughter's names on the side as I had
my children around that time and obviously travelling to tournaments always a really proud
moment when you travel and you get the England badge that kind of made the boot feel different
and it's you're representing your country and you're travelling to play in high level tournaments
so yeah it was that was a very nice thing and I've got a lot of these things I keep and look
back on and it sort of adds to the memory sometimes when you have those details personal details and
sometimes a date of a game a cup final and those things very special. Around 2006 I think it was
I had a celebration which I sort of point my hand up and so we you know working with Adidas obviously
being an Adidas athlete I was they used to customise my boots with this symbol and the
sort of like silhouette of myself in my celebration which was a really nice touch. I remember being
very proud at the time that the boot had this feeling of being quite unique to myself
in that in those terms so yeah very nice touch at the time.
I think I was straight out of the box I think I was fortunate you know I remember having my
my feet looked at scientifically Adidas at the time and one time and obviously
knowing basically my foot shape and from then on really I didn't have any problem but I knew
what my size but I could actually probably get pretty much enough to peg boot if I wanted to
and I always felt very comfortable in it so I think hopefully I was pretty low maintenance in
those terms you know just I'd wear boots for a run of games if I felt I was playing well that
I would stick with the boot as long as I could and potentially if I didn't have such a good game
then I would change boots but you know I wasn't changing them all the time I enjoyed the idea of
being on a run with a boot and wearing it and feeling the comfort of it rather than changing
too too frequently. Can you remember your best like some of your best past from that season?
2006 oh I'll find that hard I'm not sure I've definitely got the right seasons in my head
have you got any have you got any for me to reference? Runner-up to Ronaldinho at the Ballon d'Or.
No I mean this was a good time in my in my career and on a personal level really
surreal moment for myself I think growing up as a young player you never imagine being anywhere in
those conversations when you're playing over the park with your mates and stuff and trying to learn
the game so that was really surreal for me but at the time we were always thinking about the next
thing but it was successful times for us we won the league again I think I scored pretty regularly
that season again I remember scoring a goal at the Nou Camp against Barcelona that I always
reference is probably one of my best goals technically chipping it in from the byline as
such it's a goal I get questioned on a lot and I'd taken my touch too far I turned and you know I was
very what's the word when I when I was in and around the box I always wanted to get my shot
away I wanted to try and score goals it's what I sort of became to a degree and when I took my
touch too far I was trying to still stay in the game and try and create something and it was a
instinctive moment wouldn't be able to recreate that too many times it was a moment and a special
one and something that I yeah I can look back on now with pride because scoring a goal at the Nou
Camp is very special anyway the arena that it is but to score one of my best there was a
was a nice moment so yeah I had a decent run in this but nice boot up
okay so a period of time we're changing from wearing the Predator and getting into the
Adipure at the time and this boot has a some good and some not good memories for me
it's from playing for England against Germany scoring a goal that never was and it's really
interesting because obviously the ball bounced probably a not far off a meter over the line
I was very aware of it straight away that it was in I had a viewpoint on it
and the referee obviously disallowed it before we had this technology now the goal line technology
so it's probably interesting enough when I travel around the world and football is such a global
sport now I don't get asked about the goals I scored I get asked about the goal that I never
scored it's a really interesting thing so many people it was such a shows you the the world cups
and what coverage they get but yeah this boot stays in my mind predominantly for that which is
a bit unfortunate but I've certainly got over the uh the uh disappointment at this point it's just
part of my story and football and etc but you know certainly wasn't the boots fault but it was
unfortunate for me yeah I was sure as I hit it I could ball hit the crossbar and bounce down and
as I think it was Neuer the goalkeeper dived I could see the the bounce of it but I think without
technology um without goal line technology at that time you never expected until you know if
you know I mean now we're fortunate to have that it's pretty matter of fact at that point it was uh
it was questionable and and it was just so disappointing because it was 2-1 in the game
we would have taken us to 2-2 at half time and I think the game would have looked completely
different unfortunately we lost it so and on an individual note I was disappointed but I think
certainly would have had an impact on the game but it obviously had an impact on football because
they changed the technology after that and yeah this boot was part of that.
What in a bad way? I actually think what you know the moment that the goal line technology
came in I was I felt I mean my goal made a lot of news at the time it was a high profile
you know moment that I think technology had to come in after that and it wasn't all about me
obviously but I think it was very much a step forward and now we've moved on
much further forward to VAR and it's obviously quite divisive whether people like it or not
but goal line technology I think you can't argue with so that was probably a big foot forward.
Some boots that are really give me great memories straight away actually I just spotted
a couple of pictures there I was opening one is that was an interesting moment wearing the actually
the blue adi pure then and scoring against Chelsea for Man City which was
a very one of the most surreal moments in my career.
No I think no it's not pure negative because I think when you become a professional you
you have to do your job and I'd left Chelsea that was that time had came you know for Chelsea to
move on and for me to move on my career and I was you know very proud to play for Manchester City
part of my career that I was at and so I did my job and I would never disrespect Chelsea
particularly the fan base who had always taken to me so well I was never going to celebrate a goal
or get overly excited for it but in terms of doing my job I think we drew the game that day anyway
Chelsea did win the league that season and for me my job is to try and score goals from midfield so
it was just one of those moments and then we come to like the greatest moment of my Chelsea career
which was to be in a team that fought so long to win the Champions League
and as a group we've been in the same group trying to win it and then we had the greatest
night of our lives and our footballing lives for sure and winning in Munich
very very special moment to win to win a match against probably the form team in Europe and
Bayern Munich in their own stadium whilst we had four or five players suspended from the final
is I think it slightly might be an underrated achievement on the outside Chelsea fans obviously
lived that journey with us it was a really special journey to that final for a few games for the
quarterfinals beating Barcelona in the semi-finals and so I think it was quite rightly celebrated by
everybody at club I think remains the greatest night in the club's history at this point and
everybody involved who is there or watched that game around the world will I think appreciate
exactly what that that game meant and the celebrations went on for days and yeah quite
rightly so and I've just pulled the picture there of wearing this exact boot and scoring
Aston Villa for me which on an individual level was a was a big deal I broke the Chelsea
goal scoring record in this boot I think it's my 203rd goal at the time I think the record was 203
and I scored two goals in a day so I leveled it and and beat it in one day and that was a very
big moment for me I absolutely never thought that when I joined Chelsea I'll get anywhere near those
numbers and get to the to the top of the list at the time from from midfield and the biggest thing
I remember about that is the support I got from the fan base and all my teammates on the day
you know an individual award you don't always expect everyone to sort of make such a big deal
of you in a moment I got so much support for it which which made me very much feel part of the
family I've been there a long time obviously by then but that was done in this boot so this one
is again one of those that's very close to me you remember those moments and boots as a player
sometimes can play big parts in them
