Utu is the ancient Sumerian god of the sun, justice, and truth. He was believed to travel across the sky daily, bringing light to the world and overseeing human actions. Utu was also seen as a judge who upheld justice by punishing the wicked and rewarding the righteous. He played a significant role in Sumerian mythology and was worshipped in temples, particularly in the city of Sippar. Utu's Akkadian counterpart is Shamash, and he remains an important figure in the mythology of ancient Mesopotamia.
