Welcome to our extreme island survival adventure.
Our objective is to build a big survival shelter to make a base
in the archipelago. We're going out with almost no equipment.
We just grabbed these silly wool blankets and said let's go.
We don't need any sleeping bags and jackets to make it.
We're the last Vikings, we're going out to an island
far out to the sea. We have no food with us,
only this fishing rod and some wool blankets.
All right, we have now arrived at the island. Now our
next objective is to make a shelter for the night.
So we're here with Josh and this is going to be our first time survival
camping. What do we need to do first? I think we
got to find where to build our hut. Yes, that's our first quest for today.
So Josh, have you ever been survival camping before? I have never been
survival camping. This is my first time. All right, it's going to be exciting and
even though it's summer, it's going to become cold in the night.
So we definitely need to get a shelter done.
And there may be some rain coming tomorrow.
So let's get started. We need to get some big logs
to make an A-frame shelter. Let's do that. This tree is going to be
perfect for the frame and we're also going to need some reeds
and branches for the roof. So you can take care of that.
Sure. And I'm gonna take care of these logs. All right, let's do that.
Yeah, go. All right. A few moments later. I meant reeds, not grass.
Wow, all for nothing. So I told Joshua to gather a lot of these
reeds which are growing on the shore. If we
can manage to gather enough, we can make a comfortable bed and even
waterproof roof. All right, you have the reeds. We can use
these as a mattress also to sleep on, but we're gonna need a lot more.
You're gonna be faster. And now we have enough logs to start building
the frame of our shelter. When building shelters of natural materials,
having no nails, ropes or drills, it is totally possible to create advanced
structures, more than mere piles of branches.
Using natural notches on the branches, we are able to attach
materials in a safe and simple way, even without nails or string.
Can you now see what it's gonna become? It's gonna become a house. Yes, beautiful
house. Looks good. Hold it up there.
I'm gonna put this A-frame here under. We hope it's gonna not fall down on us
when we sleep. Let's try it. All right, kind of works. Yeah, this is actually
gonna work. I was a bit doubtful what this is gonna
become, but we made it. Yeah, yeah, this is gonna be an amazing hut
and perhaps this night we're gonna freeze because
we're not gonna get it ready. Let's just keep going. Yeah, let's get it done.
Under here, we will build a bed. Using the reeds, we can easily create a
safe and cozy space to lay down. For tonight, this should suffice as there
is no rain coming. Look, there's a swan. Perhaps we can eat
it. Dude, I'm exhausted. I don't know how long
I can take this, but I'll try my best. We've been here
like five hours, I think. And you're already tired. I'm already
tired and we haven't eaten anything. We're gonna eat something tomorrow.
We're gonna go fishing. Yeah, tomorrow we're gonna go fishing. I hope we
get some fish, otherwise I'm not eating anything.
But yeah, let's hope for the best. Being out here in the wild, having no
food with us, is an amazing feeling of adventure. And
many may believe that it is very difficult to go without food
for very long times. They are wrong. If you're healthy, you can
be surprisingly active despite eating nothing. I don't think
people should be afraid of going without food for a while.
It's a strengthening experience. All right, bro, now we have a sleeping mat
finally. Yeah, so what do you think? Do you just want to sleep here?
You seem a bit sleepy. I'm very tired. Yeah, but
if we don't have a roof here, we may get wet at night.
We definitely gotta make a roof. All right, you still have energy for a roof?
Still have energy. Okay, we need something above our heads.
Now our next task is to find some branches to put over here
and maybe some more of these reeds as a roof
and then to make a fireplace. Yeah, I'm looking forward for the fireplace.
Yeah, definitely. Let's get going. Let's get going.
So now the mosquitoes are starting to come, but luckily we have these
wool cloaks. We're gonna be able to sleep under them
and hopefully no mosquitoes are gonna be able to bite us.
Now I'm also starting to feel a bit hungry. We haven't eaten
in the entire day, but tomorrow for sure we're gonna catch some good fish
and cook it on the fire. That's gonna be amazing.
And we also have a bit of water with us, but only like one bottle each.
So we're gonna be very conservative, drinking one
sip at a time and that's gonna keep us hydrated,
but we're not gonna drink too much water too fast.
So it's getting a bit dark, but before we can go to sleep we must cover
at least half of this wall and then we put some moss
on top of it and if it starts to rain then we're gonna stay
kind of dry. Let's go to the dark forest to find some logs.
Are you a viking hero? I'm a viking. Okay Josh, the shelter is ready for
the night. Barely. Yeah, barely, almost.
What time do you think it is? I think it's like one o'clock.
So tired. We haven't eaten anything. We have to catch some fish tomorrow.
Definitely. Otherwise we're not gonna make it at all.
Hold back. Yeah, hold back. Luckily we have some water.
Yeah, I have drank like three sips today just to
make sure it's not gonna run out. We drink one sip at a time
and it's not gonna run out. We also have eaten a lot of salt.
So we stay hydrated. Yeah. So what do you think about your mattress?
Well, it's better than sleeping on a rock.
Really soft. Alright bro, it's time to wake up.
Yeah. We need to go fishing. Let's get the food.
Yeah, it's a beautiful day today. Let's get up.
It didn't rain this night. Oh, this was quite a cozy hut.
Yeah, you thought it was cozy. It was cozy. To sleep out here in nature.
Definitely. I slept like seven hours but they were very
like deep sleep. Yeah, you feel so relaxed here. I felt very relaxed,
connected to the ground,
connected to nature. You relax more and we had pretty deep sleep.
Definitely. And there was some ants crawling but at least no ticks so that's
the... Yeah, very good, very good. No rain. Did you get too cold? A bit
cold at some point but... Yeah, it was windy in the night.
But now let's get going and catch some fish.
So are you excited to catch some fish? Yeah, I'm hungry.
Super hungry. Starving. Alright, yeah, we have this
fishing rod and you also have worm and hooks.
Yeah. So we're definitely gonna catch something, at least something small.
I hope. Yeah, we're gonna cook it on the fire.
It already looks like we're gonna have something to eat today. We're not gonna
starve. I got one bite of a pike but it got away
so we're gonna catch it soon.
You let it go. No. Time passed as we grew more tired from the
paddling and lack of food. We have been fishing for at least three
hours and there is nothing, nothing yet.
Until... Alright, you got your first fish. I got my first fish.
Finally. Took like three hours I think. I'm a bit hungry so... You cannot eat it?
I could almost eat it straight.
Okay, so first you gotta take it away from the hook.
Remove the hook. Yeah, got it. Alright and kill it. Can you kill a fish?
I think it's dead. That was rough.
Was it the moral way to kill a fish? I guess. Yeah, it was.
Fast way.
Okay, so we're now getting a lot of this small,
small junk fish one can say. But it's totally edible and we're not
gonna starve anymore. I'm so happy now.
How much protein do you think we have now? We have
six or five of these fish. So how much protein do you think there's in one fish?
How many do we gonna need? I think there's like five to ten
grams of protein. I need to eat 20.
Well, this is a big one. We're definitely not gonna starve.
We're gonna have a feast. Don't lose it. We can't lose this. It's the
biggest one we caught. This is at least like 20 grams of
protein. Nice. Like a protein bar.
Okay, so we can kill this. We have a sharp knife. We're gonna cut off
the... Alright, so we have eight fish right now
and we've been here for quite long. Like probably like almost five hours.
And we need six more so that we can be satisfied with a good
stomach. I'm currently starving and also quite tired from the
like rowing the boat and waiting and also being just hungry.
So I'm waiting. I'm looking forward for the fish and
this is gonna be a good evening. Yeah, gonna be awesome bro.
We have another big one.
You gotta grab it. Yeah. Yeah, can't wait to eat this.
I'm like starving right now. Whoops. I can't run.
So yesterday we thought this would be easy but after all of this work
and fishing we began to feel the knot. So optimal sleep doesn't help either.
We must create better beds if we are able to make it back to the island.
We have now paddled back to the island with our last strength.
I think if we didn't get this fish we couldn't have made it this far.
This gave a lot of more energy when you just know that we're gonna have
something to eat. So now let's go and eat something.
All right, so have you gutted a fish before? Never.
Never before. You need to cut off its stomach.
Let's see. You're gonna like this. Okay, your turn.
All right. What do I do now? I take it? Yeah, you pull out all the
intestines. What the **** is that? Yeah, it's fresh, right?
And then you clean it in the water. Awesome, all the fish are clean.
Now, can you grab some of that grass there and then we're gonna
ignite the fire. Sure. Here we have some very dry grass and
this flint and steel. So can you get it burning as we did last night?
Let's see. Let's give that a try. Yeah and I actually have a challenge for you. If
you can do it in a minute you can have this apple I sneaked with
me to this island. And
you did it. I did it. Quickly. You have an apple.
Thank you. But I'm gonna not eat anything. Okay, get some small twigs here.
Twigs, yeah. I'm so hungry. It's so juicy. It's the best apple you've
eaten ever. Yeah, I saw you getting a bit tired.
I'm glad you got the challenge done too easily actually.
I thought you wouldn't even make it. I'm so hungry I gotta make the fire fast.
Yeah, awesome. Now we have the fish here and we can cook
them on these rocks here. All right. It's gonna be very good.
And let's also bring the salt that we have brought here.
We have some Himalayan salt.
Here is your beautiful perch. Oh yeah. You're gonna eat that one.
Thank you.
I think your perch is done. You can have a try.
You just open it like that and take a piece.
Looks good. And then you take some of this salt here.
Yeah, it tastes very good. Yeah, with this food we'll have energy to
complete the shelter. Definitely. The night was a bit windy and
cold so we're gonna have a better sleep now.
Yeah, that's very important. I'm looking forward for that.
To build a beautiful and complete shelter is our goal.
This is our challenge we decided to do before going on to this journey.
It's a lot of work to gather all of these logs and
thick branches considering the rough circumstances
we are in. It's going to look amazing once it's done though.
So we want to keep going creating this durable shelter.
All right, so let's make a door here. I think
we can make a door frame on this Y-branch here. Do you understand?
And we can make this top of the door stand on top of this.
All right. And this other side I can attach better with this rope I found on
the beach. You can find anything if you're looking
for it. Now I'm showing Joshua how to fit these
wood pieces above our beautiful door frame using
these natural notches to connect the wooden structures. While I
build the rest of this wall, Josh finished the other side with moss he
gathered from around the forest. Yeah, this is
very good. This is cozy. Here we're gonna sleep a good
night's sleep and we just need to finish these sides
here and then it's gonna be ready and we can finally lay down and relax,
sit by the campfire. There's so much room inside here and
when we bring more of these reeds it's gonna be a luxury mattress here.
Not kidding. This is how the entire shelter will look soon.
Energy is really running low, especially for Josh
as he is not yet used to this kind of life. I'm becoming concerned
if we actually do have enough mental strength and
energy to complete the last wall, but something great happened and brought
us renewed energy to pull it through. Hey, I found something. What's that?
I found some old planks. What's that you found?
Yeah, I found some old planks, possibly some kind of building over here
that is under the moss, so maybe we can use this. Yeah, that's
awesome. Very good. These look very old. I wonder
what was here. Finally the shelter is complete. We have
built something very beautiful and it took us
at least 15 hours of constant work, but this was our challenge to build a
beautiful hut in which we can sleep. We did this without
eating almost any food and we're very proud. Now it's just about
finishing it up with some final details and then we can
move the fireplace and get the fire going.
Wow, what a day. A very rough day, or two days.
Yeah, two days of rough. Did you expect to be so hungry?
I was really hungry before we got fish, so I was happy when we got
some fish and it tasted very good.
Yeah, I think we got like 30 grams of protein. It's very little, but
30 grams of protein and 200 calories, so I'm still starving. Yeah, I'm quite hungry
still, but better than nothing. Tomorrow we can
catch something more and also in the evening we're gonna
return home to our wonderful beautiful beds.
Yeah, can't wait. That's gonna be so beautiful.
Now everything in the modern, everything we have in our
normal lives now seems so luxurious. Definitely. Even having some normal
food is gonna be so nice. The apple you gave me tasted so
delicious and the fish were like on another planet. Yeah.
But yeah, I managed to survive. I've never done this in my life and
I burned my face a little bit in the sun, but it's all right.
I think you did very well. You haven't complained a single time.
True that. Many other men would have probably. Good point.
They would have been wanting to get home already.
Yeah, and also one other thing. I didn't expect us to survive with
such less water. We drank like, we had like a bit over a
liter of water, so we've managed to survive quite well.
Yeah, I think we both have like half a liter left,
so we could even drink some more now. Yeah. We can
have a party and drink a bit more water. Let's do that.
Oh man. And now we can still, we can improve the beds a bit before we go
sleeping. Sure. And that's gonna be even cozier.
Yeah, sounds like a plan. Yeah. Cheers. Get the metal shake. Yeah,
sounds good. Reject plastics, embrace metal shake.
Okay, but now I have like 300 left for tomorrow.
That's gonna be enough. All right, I have
about the same, one third. All right, 300 milliliters.
We're gonna survive it. All right, good night bro.
Good night.
All right Josh, it's time to wake up. You tired?
I'm quite tired. Yeah. Do you remember what we promised your brothers?
Well, we promised to do a workout. Yeah, yeah, we need to work out and also swim
in the cold water. So time to rise up and clear our heads.
The last water. The last water. Yeah, before we go training, I just want
to say you have done a pretty good job here helping me out with this shelter.
Thank you. This is very beautiful. It is. I'm looking forward to come back here.
We're gonna come back and make it better. What else do you
think we need? Well, I think we should build some kind
of fireplace inside. It was a bit cold, so in the winters it might be colder.
And then some windows would be nice. Some windows, oh yeah.
But the fireplace, yeah, inside in winter. We're gonna come here at winter at least.
Yeah. And one more time this summer. Perhaps we build some bench here.
Would be amazing to have a bench here. Now it's time to
head out and do our little workout. Vikings train every day.
So this is the third day now. We have only been eating
a few small fish. We will now return with the kayak,
doing some fishing on the way in hopes of getting some food on our long journey
home. We're excited to return here for our
next camping trip and we're very glad to show you this
adventure. So do subscribe to the channel
and see the next video. And most importantly,
don't forget to get out there.
