🏰 Heldburg Fortress, Germany 🇩🇪

In the 14th century, Heldburg Fortress was owned by the Counts of Henneberg-Schleusingen and served as an administrative and judicial seat. It came under the Wettin family's possession in 1374. Reconstructed in Renaissance style by architect Nikolaus Gromann in 1560, it was later used as a hunting lodge by Duke Johann Casimir. After suffering damage during the Thirty Years' War, it became part of the ducal house of Meiningen in 1871. Duke Georg II extensively restored it between 1874-1898. The castle now houses the German Castle Museum
