2024 can be considered a booming year
for the space industry this is not an
exaggeration because even blue origin
one of the biggest disappointments is
also taking extremely ambitious steps
its orbital rocket new Glenn has made
significant progress over the past few
months most recently Jeff's company took
a major step with this rocket that
shocked the entire Aerospace industry so
what exactly did blue origin accomplish
and is it enough to beat SpaceX let's
delve into these questions on today's
episode of great SpaceX since its
Inception blue origin has always
considered itself a formidable opponent
of SpaceX however due to their inability
to reach orbit they were even laughed at
by many smaller competitors determined
to change this they have focused on
developing their first or orbital rocket
new Glenn according to the plan this
rocket will enter the race around
September this year with a mission to
launch a Mars spacecraft for NASA with
that day approaching blue origin needs
to prepare extensively recently they
showcased a new development step that in
my opinion is extremely impressive they
tested the landing legs system of new
Glenn's first stage specifically on X
the company announced we recently
completed new Glenn's first stage test
of its six Landing legs a key area for
reusability which lowers the cost of
access to space the test video provided
by Blue origin reveals a lot about the
new structure as described by Blue
origin the landing gear stows inside the
rocket during flight deploying as the
booster gently touches down on our
Landing vessel at Sea when I viewed the
test I immediately thought of crabs with
their low height and Long Claws
spreading out to the sides I'm I'm only
kidding that that design is clearly
similar to the Falcon 99's legs when
flying these legs fold inside the
Prototype like a unified hole preventing
them from affecting the flight and vice
versa upon Landing the legs open
providing balance for the Prototype
according to the video new Glen will
have six legs which is suitable for
helping the Prototype stand firmly on
the landing vessel indeed when it comes
to Landing legs for the first stage
reusability immediately comes to mind
this step shows that blue origin not
only wants to enter the race but also
competes fairly with SpaceX which has
shown superiority in the aspect of reuse
blue origin aims to land and reuse in
the most impressive manner Landing
vertically similar to spacex's Falcon
Rockets their first stages have
consistently landed on ground platforms
or at Sea often referred to as landing
on a landing zone or a drone ship
another interesting Factor about new
Glenn's test simulator is its material
the color suggests it uses stainless
steel which is surprising since new
Glenn's materials are likely carbon
fiber orthogrid aluminum and welded
aluminum it's unclear whether the
stainless steel version will be applied
to the official version if so that would
be a bold move in addition to the
revelations from Blue Origins site CEO
David limp provided more details he said
the full landing gear plane is roughly
20 ft tall which is about 6 m in terms
of capacity each leg can support over
150 tons of impact at touchdown roughly
the weight of two fully loaded 737
aircraft the legs are a folding link
design similar to aircraft these are
impressive parameters the test revealed
much about blue origin's future plans
with its orbital rocket this test is one
of many steps blue origin has taken over
the past year late last year images from
inside blue Origins Factory showed
everything ready for assembly earlier
this year after much anticipation the
first Hardware of new Glen has rolled
out from the factory even though it was
only a test version following that the
official stages have been connecting by
February the first Pathfinder prototype
was rolled out and vertically stacked at
the Launchpad earlier this month blue
origin conducted a test with the rapid
to retract system and prototype
simulator a key system for the final
flight along with the Prototype tests
another piece of good news for newlen is
that it's First Flight payload the
Escapade spacecraft just completed
production this means everything now
depends on new Glenn's progress
According to some reports new Glenn's
flight date could beat September 29th
but this date May be pushed to October
if necessary currently blue origin is
determined to launch at least one flight
this year setting the stage for many of
the company's plans next year and don't
forget a key factor demonstrating blue
Origins determination to compete with
SpaceX
it's planned to buy Ula earlier this
year Jeff Bezos Sold 5 billion US in
Amazon shares and recently he sold
another $863 and5 million in shares with
these strong actions many believe this
is to finance the purchase of Ula aside
from SpaceX blue origin is perhaps the
only company with the capability to make
this acquisition this merger would allow
blue origin to expand its launch testing
and production systems and acquire the
Vulcan rocket and its valuable contracts
indeed with ambitious plans across many
fronts blue origin is showing us that
they want to change the game however if
you look closely it's still difficult
for blue origin to beat SpaceX despite
their recent progress before diving into
that please leave us a like share the
video and subscribe to the channel to
continue following the development
journey of SpaceX and the Aerospace
industry all right let's examine the
recent advancements on one hand blue
Origins progress is a big step forward
but on the other it also highlights
their inferiority to SpaceX why is that
well vertical Landing technology with
the support of Landing legs is something
SpaceX pioneered nearly a decade ago
their first successful landing on the
landing Zone occurred on December 2015
followed by the first drone ship Landing
in April of the following year blue
origin is actually a decade behind its
competitor additionally there's still no
proof that their system will work well
on official flights even if the system
becomes operational it'll be challenging
to match the current impressive landing
and reuse records of Falcon rockets and
while blue origin is still struggling
with its Landing legs SpaceX has shown
its superiority by removing the landing
legs on its Rockets yes I'm talking
about Starship SpaceX is currently
utilizing a system no other organization
has implemented before the mechazilla
arm this arm will lift and stack the
giant rocket and in the future catch it
when it returns this system alongside
the olm or orbital launch Mount allowed
SpaceX to remove the landing legs
something once thought indispensable
although I am a fan of Starship with
Landing legs I cannot deny spacex's
technological superiority in removing
this part in terms of progress even
without comparing to Falcon Rockets
where the difference is vast new Glenn
is still showing its slowness compared
to Starship which is also in development
so far SpaceX has launched four
integrated flights and recorded many
significant strides most notably the
latest flight saw SpaceX successfully
land both stages of the rocket for the
first time achieving a similar Milestone
will likely require many attempts from
new Glenn as for the future competition
some might worry that if blue origin
acquires Ula it could pose a significant
threat to SpaceX however in my opinion
even with such a merger blue origin
still cannot break spacex's dominance
Ula is indeed a big player in the
industry but merging with them will be
challenging UA's older generation
Rockets have been retired one by one and
probably won't contribute much to Blue
origin the company's new rocket Vulcan
is still struggling to get launch
certification from the United States
space force moreover in the military and
government payload launch market which
is ula's strength they are being
surpassed and gradually overtaken by
SpaceX therefore merging with UL La is
likely not going to change the
competition landscape significantly
additionally with both Rockets using be4
engines it's uncertain whether blue
origin can produce enough engines for
both without causing scheduling
conflicts this could further complicate
their operations rather than providing a
Competitive Edge regardless new Glenn's
progress is a positive sign for the
United States after so many delays it
may finally be time for new Glenn to
wake up and meet the Aerospace
industry's expectations for blue origin
after 24 years of development it's time
to shed the shame of not reaching orbit
they need to enter the race as a major
player sharing the burden with SpaceX in
the global competition particularly with
countries like China as for SpaceX after
years of absolute domination perhaps
they need an opponent who can make the
race more dramatic this competition will
help them continue to improve and reach
new milestones in particular both
companies will be crucial to NASA's
Journey Back To The Moon spacex's
Starship is slated for aremis 3 and 4
while new Glenn is set for emis 5 both
will carry enormous responsibilities and
right now I hope blue origin focuses on
advancing their progress instead of
getting bogged down in lawsuits as they
have been in recent years if you agree
let's reply stop suing get doing in the
comment section down below well folks
that's about it for today's episode
thank you so much for tuning in and as
always this has been Kevin from great
SpaceX until next time keep looking up
